Made_You_Look Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Not really a technic question, but anyway: Is there a limit to the number of maps Minecraft can save? So can I theoretically go on exploring and creating maps until I have a thousand different ones, or will I eventually create one and it will just be map_0 or something?
The_DarthMoogle Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Theoretically infinite. But is infinity a number?
Made_You_Look Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 Woot thanks! Imma go explore the crap outta my world. :D
freakachu Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 the only limit on number of maps is the space available on your HDD. so while the program itself has no built in limit, there is a technical one. in practice though you're probably never going to hit it.

In practice, if you even got close to it, you wouldn't be able to play Minecraft any more.
Pilchard123 Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 I would imagine that the largest map number would be the upper limit of an integer of whatever flavour Notch decided to use. Knowing him, probably a signed single-precision floating point, but whatever.
pepsi87 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Yeah offcourse there's a limit if you've got to much save in your saves folder, Technic Will Crash even minecraft does by to much saves.
pepsi87 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 and in that case of maps you have to use commands to make other Map ID's. type in /give 358 {the id of the map} {how much you want}
