Technic Launcher no longer loads Technic SSP

Question

Posted

For some reason the Launcher is starting up MC Vanilla and sticking it in the old .minecraft directory. It doesn't loading into SSP or anything and I can't figure out why. I'm not getting any errors, and I can't make sense of the logs. I'm hoping someone could help out.

Make sure you are using the latest launcher. If you are running the .exe then this is automatic. If you are on a Mac make sure you have the latest as found here, version 0.5.3.8

Otherwise what you are saying is impossible. The Technic Launcher is completely separate and independent from both the vanilla launcher and its directories. The Technic Launcher only ever writes data to .techniclauncher, not .minecraft. The Launcher simply connects to minecraft.net using your account information strictly to get the Minecraft binaries and files needed to play Minecraft, nothing more.

So, go to your .techniclauncher/logs folder, get the newest one (usually the one labeled with a zero) and post it on www.pastebin.com, then post the link here.

I had that issue the other night. Was playing technic normally, quit while I was eating and tried to get back in but was using the .minecraft directory. Not sure what caused it but solved it by going to options and hitting clear cache.

People, you're not listening. You must be doing something horribly wrong because that is "impossible". The launcher has nothing to do with .minecraft. Never even touches it or goes near it or knows it exists. The only reason you log in with the launcher is so we don't have to break MC's TOS and package any MC .jars. You literally get the files you need directly from mojang. .minecraft or the minecraft client are never involved ever.

I seriously didn't do anything different than simply try to run Technic. The only thing that happened was it was when mc.net was down. And it only started doing that after the offline mode update. You say it is impossible, but it happened man, I don't know what else to tell you.

Edit: Clearing the cache seemed to work.

I'm currently having the same problem,

Some basic info:

Windows 7 (64bit)

Starting the launcher using the "TechnicLauncher-v0.2.exe"

And I know it should not be possible but here it is:

The logs: http://pastebin.com/WH3LLimJ

It looks like it just cannot find the correct directory/file and will just default to the .minecraft directory.

The "Clear Cache" option here only shown the following error:

"Failed to clear the cache! Ensure Modpack files are open.

If all else fails, close the launcher, restart it, and try again"

I did restart and tried again, but got the same error.

Fixed: Found some files in my C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\.techniclauncher which had the read-only permission set, removing the read-only property fixed it for me.
