  1. Ooh I see where we could go with this... In fact, if every floor's buttons just pulsed wireless emitters, then all the innards that tell it what floor to select could be at a different location... All on one floor, or even in a neighboring building. I'm gonna work on some designs now.
  2. The problem with building in vanilla redstone is the size becomes prohibitively large... I'd like to not have to space out the buttons for each floor too far, since there's going to be so many of them. It's a very large building (I believe 65x65 were the specs we built from, and extending from 5 to the upper limit of the map), so I have a relatively large footprint to put the elevator in, but I'd also like to keep it to a minimal size since this rig will likely have to be built on every floor to provide floor-selection.
  3. But how would I go about clearing the latches? I know I can make them flip, but how would I say "return all latches to this position"?
  4. Belated, but here are those screenshots. Ground-floor controls as seen by the user. The back end of the controls. The receiving end on each floor. The whole setup as seen from a distance.
  5. I'll look into how I'd manage that. I'll take some screenshots later to better illustrate my setup.
  6. I'm currently using Tekkit 3.0.3 to design an elevator intended to traverse the height of a tower that reaches the maximum height limit of the map. I've settled on using Railcraft's Elevator Rails to do this, since Railcraft 3.3.0 added a condition that placing a rail opposite the Elevator Rail will cause minecarts that stop on that level to be pushed onto the rail. So far, I've set up a system where each floor will have a wall of buttons next to the elevator. Each button is tied to a Toggle Latch so the setting can be turned on and off. The Toggle Latch is then rigged to a lamp above the light to show which floor is selected, and also to a wireless transmitter that is synched with a wireless receiver on the appropriate floor. Hitting the button for Floor 3, for example, will turn on the redstone signal up at Floor 3, meaning the carts will now travel to Floor 3 before exiting onto that floor's rail. I've run into two noticeable issues... For one, if you turn on Floor 4, and Floor 2 without turning off 4, you'll be sent to Floor 4. Secondly, I've been testing all of these controls based on having floor controls only on the ground floor. If I were to add these controls to each floor, then turning on or off the 'Floor3' button on one floor would have no baring on whether or not another floor has selected Floor 3. I'd appreciate any input on how I can wire this. This is about the third wiring scheme I've been through, and I'm not opposed to ripping everything out and starting over if I have to.
  7. 'Alt' does indeed work! Thank you very much! ^^
  8. Thank you for the suggestion, we'll let you know if it works!
  9. My boyfriend is experiencing an issue in which left-clicking on an item in his inventory (either to pick up, or shift-click to move into a box) causes him to eject the items from his inventory. I've had this happen to me before, but it's a near constant occurrence for him. We've read that this issue has to do with fullscreen'ing Minecraft while the game is open, and it also seems to be aggravated by alt-tabbing, though he's had it occur after a while without alt-tabbing at all. There are ways to modify the vanilla Minecraft exe to automatically go fullscreen when you load the game, but we've found no method of achieving this via the Technic Launcher. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
  10. I'd look into adding solar or hydro to your sources. Setting up an automatic hydro system can be a little expensive but not too bad, there's a great tutorial on it here.
  11. Yes, exactly. Have a batbox with its output on the bottom, then a wire from that leading to another batbox, also with its output on the bottom, then an MFE under that... When you hook the machine up, it will draw power from the MFE. As the MFE loses power, it will recharge itself from the batbox above it, which will in turn draw from the batbox above that. It just gives you a larger power capacity.
  12. I think it'll only draw from one source at a time. If it's just capacity you're looking for, stack them... Batbox to Batbox to MFE.
  13. Make sure you include a Pump to handle the lava you'll inevitably hit. You're going to get an obnoxious amount of netherrack, maybe some soulsand, and some scattered nether ores. Darn shame you can't make nether brick, huh?
  14. As a woman, I find this whole thread pretty laughable. I'm not offended by 'there are no women on the internet', because I take it in the spirit it was intended... A completely ridiculous statement intended for laughs. I'm amazed how much this thread exploded, considering it started with one guy trolling for chicks...
  15. What can Minefactory do that RedPower can't already accomplish in one way or another, besides conveyor belts? Not trying to start an argument, or say that Minefactory isn't a good mod, I'm genuinely curious.
  16. A suggestion for your rules list, actually... The mod needs Bukkit support. There are plenty of SMP mods that the Technic Team won't touch because, again, they're not going to port a mod just because someone really wants it, and Bukkit is the focal point of Tekkit.
  17. That's one way of looking at it, Gristle, but I prefer to think of Tekkit as a creativity tool rather than a set of goals. Even with the addition of 'The End', Minecraft has always been a sandbox for me, and while I prefer to earn my keep rather than turn on Creative mode, I also enjoy reaping the benefits of easily-accessible materials once I've earned them. Having the entire world's resources at your fingertips lets you focus on other craziness. How about a floor of lamps that tracks you as you move across it? I've seen it done, but if you haven't watched the tutorial, it's fun to figure out how to make it happen! Or maybe make a set of games like the Yogcast Olympics, but using all of the IC/BC/RP tools at your disposal for more detail and unique functions, so you can play with your server buddies?
  18. Haven't tested this but... Try using a pump to pipe the lava from a large pool into a smaller collection pool, where a Retriever buckets it up and outputs it into the Ender Chest. With proper use of filters, I think you should also be able to have the system return the empty buckets to the Nether via the same Ender Chest in order to refill the Retriever. It should be the same basic principle as the Free EU Using Water Mills design.
  19. You absolutely can make things like that, it was one of the first things I tested when I installed Tekkit 3.0.3. My personal solution, make a 'lamp post' out of jacketed wire leading up to a lamp or two, depending on your personal design preference, connect the jacketed wire to the lamp with a bit of red alloy wire, then run a red alloy wire from the bottom of the lamp post to a light sensor. Put a NOT Gate between the two (so that daylight = signal is off), and then adjust the shutter on the light sensor until you've got it coming on as the sun goes down, and turning off as the sun comes up. It works a lot better than my old ghetto-rigged light posts that counted on IC2 solar panels to operate. Just last night, I started toying with frames and motors too. There's SO much fun stuff you can do with these, I really recommend giving them a try.
  20. At this point, when there is no more scraping more materials and no higher on the ladder to climb, I'd find myself looking for the uses for my limitless resources. A complex cart-transport system that runs through all of your important locations? Wiring up all your outdoor spaces with street lamps that turn on and off at sunset and sunrise, via the new Redpower2 Light Sensors? Create a sorting facility that takes items dropped into an obsidian pipe and properly sorts them through the network into the properly labeled chests? Heck, -build-. Encase your utilitarian structures in artistic and creative facades.
  21. As I've heard it, Forrestry's creator included malicious code in recent releases designed to damage the worlds of players using it through Tekkit. I've also heard he did this secretively and without first contacting the Technic Pack staff to say 'yo, stop using my stuff'. Again, this is just what I've heard, and if I've got any details wrong, I would appreciate if someone more in-the-know can clarify.
  22. After several days of fumbling with it, I finally just screamed, tore out a chunk of hair, and nuked both of my Java installations as well as any trace of Minecraft or TechnicPack off of my computer, then reinstalled it all fresh. While reinstalling pieces at a time did nothing for me, the solid wipe seems to have fixed it. Now it works fine. Go figure.
  23. I have both 64x and 32x installed and fully updated.
  24. I just installed the Technic Pack Launcher the other night, fully updated it, and launched Tekkit onto the Puggit server (which just became a Tekkit 2.0 server a few days ago). I first thought it was odd that it seemed to hang on the Mojang screen for about 15-20sec. Within moments of logging in, my game slowed to a crawl, and soon threw the "Out of Memory" error. I upped my allocated memory from 1gb to 1.5gb, to no change. I rebooted, reinstalled Minecraft and Tekkit 100% fresh, and continued to face the same error. This time, I watched my task manager, and realized my Minecraft installation runs afoul of the 'Out of Memory' error, at only 362mb of usage! It's also using around 30%-40% CPU usage. I reloaded the launcher and opened Technic SSP instead, started a brand new survival map, and it ran into the same issue moments later. I then launched Vanilla Minecraft through the launcher, and again, the same problem! At this point I became concerned it was either a Java or basic Minecraft issue, so I did a fresh install of Minecraft and ran it directly without use of the launcher, and while it used considerably more memory (over 700mb), it ran as smooth as silk! Anything run through the launcher (Vanilla, SSP, Tekkit, YogBox, etc) has this issue. The following are my system specs: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 4gb of ram AMD Phenom II 3200 Mhz Quad-Core NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450
