Redstone engines and conductive pipes dont work properly
jakj replied to fallen's topic in Tekkit Classic Discussion
Quarries should use combustion engines with fuel. If I recall correctly, three of them optimally, but one will work (more slowly). If you insist on steam technology, and you have Forestry installed, use peat engines; Otherwise, use (many) steam engines with coal coke. -
Ah, probably, yes. The thing people have to keep in mind is, there is a very large difference between Technic and Tekkit when it comes to manually installing new versions. In Technic, all you have to do is drop in the updated mod file (if it's for the same MC version), and more often than not, it will work with no more problems than maybe a new ID conflict. And technically (yeah, yeah), the same is true for Tekkit, assuming the mod is bukkited, but...keep in mind your clients all have to be running the same thing. There are very few mods out there that can be updated on a server but not a client, and still have the clients work; At best, you end up with subtle issues like machinery or items not behaving as intended, and at worst, you end up with client crashes as expected parameters meet unexpected arguments. Generally, unless you are running a very small server for a very small set of friends (read: not an average open or whitelisted server), you should not be updating mods locally except for small non-destructive bugfixes or configuration changes.

And there is a reason you felt the need to copy/paste a mod description into an already-pointless topic?

Redstone engines and conductive pipes dont work properly
jakj replied to fallen's topic in Tekkit Classic Discussion
Stone pipes lose more energy than gold. I've also been told many times (though never personally confirmed) that it calculates distance by how far apart the blocks are, not how many pipes it goes through, meaning the teleportation would still lose energy over distance. -
Don't be stupid: NEI (better than TMI) is already in the pack. To answer your question, if you find an actual mod you really do want to install, you do this: 1) Install the mod; 2) Wait for the crash; 3) See which IDs conflict; 4) Reassign the IDs; 5) Play.
-
Likeliest issues are 1) something is already using that port, 2) you're accidentally running the server twice so it's conflicting with itself, or 3) your firewall, gateway, router, or proxy is not allowing you to bind.

Unable to connect to my local technic server
jakj replied to Bruva James's question in Tekkit Classic
You're supposed to connect to your server with the same version of the software that your server is using. This should have been obvious. -
Redstone engines and conductive pipes dont work properly

Too much energy loss over the distance. Use stronger engines so there's more margin per energy packet. -
are the Launcher technic and technic the same?
jakj replied to dragsaw's question in Technic Launcher
...eh? The launcher downloads Technic, Tekkit, Yogbox, and all the rest; It's a nexus. -
It's up to the author/maintainers of BC to port the newest version to SMP.

Yeah, it's amazing. :-) -
Curious - or "News Flash! I did a little research and Forestry is removed!"
jakj replied to BigJay34's question in Technic Launcher
Wait, what? He's informing us about this issue? Um. I don't even...know...what... I feel dizzy. -
It is double in IC2 generators and vanilla furnaces.

The harm comes from very dim users who don't understand what an environment variable is, nor how to change one, to make sure it's using the right version.

Crash when getting close to certain batboxes
jakj replied to delicateglow's question in Tekkit Classic
Not including crash log =/= "fixed". -
Plus you don't need 32-bit installed if you have 64-bit installed, unless you have a shitty web-browser (in which case, get a better one).
-
Stickypiston+blockbreaker+deployer+pressureplate = EE relay with 6 collectors with you being able to access the relay. (Piston moves the lightstone; breaker/deployer act on the collector because vanilla pistons can't handle mod items. One of the More Pistons might; Frames are too slow for that task.)

Is it possible for the Technic launcher to be removed and to use the old one?
jakj replied to tking1st's question in Technic Launcher
Yeah, tried it again just now and still doesn't do shit. But yeah, not a feature I need or want so meh. It's probably due to running it under Windows 7 as non-superuser, considering Windows 7 also is doing arcane funky shit with my folders' read permissions, where it marks everything under C:\Users as read-only, even if I explicitly make it read-write, changing it right back to read-only.....except it's not actually read-only, because Technic (and everything else) writes to it just fine. -
No, you're not particularly creative.
-
Try posting in the Tekkit forum, then.

Personally don't think Aether has enough content to justify being supported as a full pack, and it's too incompatible to work with the rest of the pack.

My brain...it is full of fuck. -
The answer to your question is "three".

You have not yet drawn a logical path between "ripped from other games" and "not good".
