  1. Towny Version 0.81.0.0 Follow Steps 3-4 for Towny Version 0.80.1.0 or lower follow Everything From Step 2 onwards. Add Tekkit Mod FakeUsers as residents of the town set them up so they are NPCs if you are using mysql then u must add them to the sql database under towny_residents and then manually add the flags from an existing NPC player name which will appear if you set a town mayor to npc. The fake users you want are [industrialCraft], [RedPower], [ComptuerCraft], [buildCraft] Setup your permissions so that the FakeUsers have a special group/rank in which you will assign the permissons required to give the build and destroy override commands from Townys admin nodes for the machines. Optionally you can just OP the FakeUser names in Step 2 Test the machine is working. If you have followed this correctly and you no longer get a message saying that the fake user does not exist as a resident or any more messages like you get now telling you the machine has no rights to operate in the plot then it should all work. I would test it with a IC2 Miner. Now to get ComputerCraft turtles to function like mine and place the above will not help you due to the fact turtles are assigned a new fakeuser ID for each entity u place, we had to modify the towny.jar to make this work so turtles Enity ID were assigned to the player who placed them and thus our turtles obey Towny permissions and any other permission you can assign your players which in our servers case means turtles will not dig up blocks we don't let players dig up in wilderness. I may share the Towny.jar for you which is based on Towny Version 0.81.0.0, this version has FakeUsers built into the config so you do need to add them as residents instead you can add any additional fake users from the new Tekkit mods in the special mods section of the Towny config. Be warned though that our Modified version may cause silly mysql errors when when the turtle cannot be found as a user anymore because our turtles get stored with towny player cache and are added to the players friends list which of course the cache is cleared when your server shutsdown but you can always re add the turtle ID using offline friend add command to fix any silly MySql error, Its not a perfect design but it works and you wont get the error much and it wont effect the server at all it just a warning saying the sql database doesn't know what that resident is as it doesn't exist. I hope this information sorts out your problem. I can also assist you with Towny use as well if you require such information.
  2. So your looking for something that doesn't exist basically, 99% of Mods will add new block Id's of some kind of with the exception of mods that just add entity's any other mod will make your world likely un playable with out said mod installed until all said new blocks are removed from the world.
  3. Couldn't sum it up any better, but you left out Win 2008 a Win2008R2 I think we all know which one of those was the good one and I'm not sure what Win 98 SE came under but that was probably the best up until XP's glory days. I also wish to make amends on your Vista score from crap to exceptionally crap.
  4. I side with Kaker on this one as well, I have witnessed all the stuff you have said personally as well and I too have janitor years to know better about that awful software, http://www.malwarebytes.org/ is free for the non real time scanning stuff and its arguably one of the best along side Avast and probably Node32 but Node is a lot heavier than those other two Imo. Though you cannot be swayed so happy scanning I guess.
  5. I just watched the Yogcast videos with Duncan and came here, saw this lovely community and that was enough for me to erase my current server and everything and start over with Tekkit.
  6. @jakj Try A.I Type Keyboard its what I am using on my phone now it has pretty awesome prediction I don't even look at the words half the time and just press the closest letter to the one I am after and it fixes it perfect 90% of the time. I used Swype but it and I did not get a long to well between needing to use my finger as a paint brush annoyed the hell out of me, I was far faster at typing the word qwerty style then using Swype while accurate it is I just never really gave it much time because my finger got in the way of the keyboard and I could not really see the damn letters I was moving over, That was until I got A.I Type that let me adjust the keyboard keys size and height and everything its also one of the fastest and most responsive keyboard replacements on the Google Play market and you can theme it. Did I mention that I am pretty sure it supported Swype as well. I also see you couldn't resist the urge to go on about rooting the android device hehe, can't say I blame you, hey what device have you got anyway I rooted my Galaxy Note and used SetCpu to make that 1.2ghz duel core a lovely 1.6ghz didn't mess with the voltages yet don't really want too until I get an extended battery to the tune of 5200mh then I will have a new profile setup to run 1.7ghz as the extended battery will allow for that kind of useless waste until it hits about 40% juice in which I will knock it back to 800mhz like I do currently. I sure hope you put TitaniumBackup on your device as well if your rooted it and possibly even Adfree.
  7. I dunno, I have not tested Win8 myself I don't have any desire to do so anytime soon after the crap I have been reading about it being the next Vista, I could have read very wrong but most of the technicians I spoke to didn't seem very pleased with it so far suggesting its just windows 7 adding stupid metro and a whole bunch of other useless candy services and or processes that I will inevitability just end up trying as hard as I possibly can to make it be minimalistic and drop that processor count from 60 something to around 50 or lower. Then on the other hand I am having this urge that is coming from linux distro's, they seem to be calling out to me " Pick me, Pick me, I don't crash I am fast, I also don't pick a STD every time I go on the internet" @EzioA Yes you can play Minecraft on a tablet if you want too, Just go get an android tablet and then root mod that and install XP OS using special tools of course then just use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard or you might find a decent control mapper around somewhere for Multi Touch. On the other hand my Galaxy Note can play Minecraft pocket edition tho that is only fun for when I am on the train. Though that being said I wonder how hard it would be to hack mod Tekkit for Android I mean if we rip the control's from Pocket edition and hack that into Tekkit .. hmmm now I am thinking and wondering if it can be pulled off, I already have a root modded device I overclocked it too from 1.2ghz duel core to 1.6ghz and optimized the profiles so its smart on battery juice. "rushes off to decompile MC pocket" Edit EzioA If you want to launch from USB again try these out, http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/autolaunch-apps-usb-stick-windows/ or http://portableapps.com/node/23046#comment-147855. Windows has always Shown me a popup whenever I insert a thumb drive or a USB HDD actually any mass storage drive at all that runs from USB has poped up and asked me if I wanted to open it or run something from it I am using Win7 Ultimate, If you want the USB to launch something like an exe or any other windows supported file you can easily make a startup/autorun script and as long as the drive letter does not change it will boot from it. The links I provided will probably also help you out, the portable apps one is amazingly good if you don't want to write a script it turns a small app that will give u a gui interface for launching things from the USB.
  8. I think we both know there are more things wrong with the code base than just simple tweaks, For starters why the hell would they have Bukkit not merge with the Server Jar, instead they told Bukkit to work on the vanilla commands. I have said a long time ago now that I was sure Mojang is not modding biggest fan, this would explain a lot of things. I'm pretty confident on Spouts new goals though. I also agree with jakj I lost faith in Mojang a loong time ago, dare I say Mojang are turning out to be a little brother too EA . Aside from all of this people keep sending notes about 1.3 and I keep telling them that until true modding support comes and another dinky wrapper but a proper server controls client situation I'm not interested I am 100% Tekkit now I also think that Tekkit may end up moving to the new Spout Server once that matures up and people start noticing and coding for it though I could be wrong but it does look promising. I had a play with Vanilla 1.3 as well and it doesn't look good that is for sure so many bugs many things were broken, even the whole way they merged SP and MP was wrong they should have used the SP code and rewrote MP for that not the other way around SMP in vanilla had issues the SP jar was a lot more stable. Can anyone actually tell me about this Demo as it is the first I read about any such thing, I know you can go offline mode but have Mojang released a cut down version of the game as a demo or is the demo just a modified current client. If the demo is a uncut client than sure I can totally see crackers modding that so to save the whole 15 or less of trouble it would take to play SP as it would be equal to the reason they cracked the Android version of the game the source was the same but the game play time was limited.
  9. People cracked the android demo as well but that would probably unlock the game outright. Though I wonder what use the PC demo would yield for cracking it. Though we should probably tread lightly talking about that as we may get flagged for it. But they support the game why not just buy the game, I understand temporary to test it out before a purchase but you should buy it if u support it. I don't know why there is a DEMO version unless you guys are talking about when you just don't log into the client and use offline mode. Which I have to admit that would annoy me when my internet goes because of moving house or if I am on a holiday on a laptop and I just want to play Technic or Vanilla at lunch or something like that. If there is a proper demo then I can see someone probably cracking it as the Demo would be much like the android demo where cracking would give u unlimited game time and it would also save the signup process and the third party client requirement as it would be for SP, The Demo I don't think is any different unless they actually removed code to remove content from the game otherwise it would be identical to the premium client and you could use mods and stuff for SP.
  10. Sorry to ask this it may be a little offtopic but where may I find the changelog for Tekkit Development versions ?, This is like dream come true right here Edit: I meant to include " to see if Mo'Creatures existed and test out Mo'Creatures. This was a direct response for http://forums.technicpack.net/threads/mo-creatures-added-to-tekkit.14920/#post-110225 I should also maybe have used the reply button. I don't see all this talk going about someone failing to install the mod manually part of the OP, The OP is asking if Mo creatures is being added my link is a response and this post right here was asking for the change logs associated so I may look into this myself. I was not aware that Mo'Creatures was added in some way or if it even is yet, Instead of making yet another thread about Mo'Creatures being added I thought I would just ask for the source where this user in the link I provided got that information from, However this infraction is correct as at the time although while being 4am in the morning for me I did not include any detailed reasoning to validate why this post should be here.
  11. Here I found your solution. And you need this version of Factions which is where I got that information from. Factions already does protect spawn with a zone called "SafeZone" you apply this zone to your towns spawn and it is protected. You can also get rid of "Essentials Spawn" plugin because Factions will also handle the Server Spawn point as well the rest of the Faction Spawn Points while your at it pick either "Essentials Chat" or "Chatmanager" don't run both they do the same thing that is providing your server with suffix and preffixs and linking those things into your server for plugins the only exception to this rule is with Towny where it has its own "TownyChat" plugin that provides the chat channels and things in which case you do need any other chat manager like I mentioned above where as Factions has its channels and chat built in but it rely s on an existing chat manager. The Fake User names you need to add for the mods to work are [buildCraft] [ComputerCraft] [industrialCraft] [RedPower] [RailCraft] You may need to add the new Balkon Weapon as well once you update to Tekkit 3.1.1
  12. I have to question your motive for using two jail systems, Essentials already has built in jails, Logblock will not work with tekkit very well you need to use Coreprotect and authme suggests your running a cracked server which I don't support. You should also have used the search feature here to find http://forums.technicpack.net/threads/help-on-installing-factions-on-tekkit-3.10354/ I don't actually use Factions with Tekkit so I cannot really comment on the method for getting the mods to work I could assume u just needed to give them Factions permissions or adding them as members of the factions.
  13. Check they really have OP permissions, manually add them if you need to in the OP.TXT of your server and permissions plugin or add special machines group if you need to with the break permissions for any plugins you have, especially for TOWNY. If you do use Towny you need to add them as residents with all the required permissions and rights. If you wish to share any configs from the server do so via PM I will not disclose them to anyone other than myself if you decide to go that far.
  14. I get your system fine, You wish to release the recommended Server leave time for server administrators to fiddle with things test out plugin conflicts and what not, then push out the client after some period of extra time that has been decided to be enough for administrators to get themselves in order. I also know that CC would need to be ported to bukkit but what if that was to happen during the week wait for the client, I already said it doesn't really matter at all whichever way you decide to release the end product the outcome will the be the same, You will either add the updated mods in the coming release or issue a hot-fix or a minor version update some weeks after the release with the new server files and the process will repeat. There is just no denying that once you release a recommended you cannot just take it back to fix something silly you missed that others have picked up after its been released but that being said that also succumbs the same as above. I'm not really fussed anymore either way as its just a matter of opinion and the workflow of the developers in which way is the better option. Some admins will side with me and some will side with you with the deciding factor being how quickly they can adjust to change. I have no issues with current method personally from a reasoning perspective but I don't agree that the recommended build should be called recommended and splashed all over the homepage, its more a prerelease as without the client it shouldn't be classed as recommended as there is no recommended counter part to be used to join the server at the time of release. All in all it just again is another opinion that doesn't really matter and falls under the above yet again. Not to be rude but I do think there is a whole heap of room for debate on that subject but this is not my project so have at it any way you guys think works best for you . Edit: Yes it was a shitty argument as I never did explain in detail the process that would take nor did anyone else debate anything in return, So kudos you are right about the fact its not a debate, I seem to be the only one coming up with any real validation for the reasoning to counter anything that is being said thus far.
  15. I have more arguments to support my cause lol, CC updated and it is too late to update Tekkit for that now its released as recommended another con to the current method of release . I wish a member of staff would see this thread and take it seriously, I'm not exactly a newbie with servers myself I have been doing it since early alpha of the game. I am willing to take this battle to the special debate thread if that is what it takes to settle. Also lol at the above two posts.
  16. I see, I used PEX but I am swapping to GroupManger because of something I found today that shed some light on how BAD Pex is written. If Group Manger has any sort of item banning or build control built into it disable that and write your permissions config from scratch If your using essentials which I assume you are because of Bose-economy Essential my be blocking items but I don't think because I use the same thing and set mine up so it things are working and it never blocked anything from Tekkit. Towny on the hand I know about as well and that WILL be an ass u need to add the mods Fake Users as residents but later version of Towny have Tekkit fake user support so I am not sure if u still need to do this. But you DO need to assign permissions for towny or no one will able to build and you do need to setup towny's default plot permissions or again residents wont be able to do anything until the town owner set the town permissions from in-game, you also need to add tekkit ITEM ID's where ever they are needed in both configs Essentials and Towny's, for instance if you want to stop people opening chests from tekkit as well the vanilla chests when u have Use permission in plots disabled you need to add these to the current list of USE/Switch items in towny. The best way to do this is to log into the server bring up your inventory which should show NEI on the right a and in creative or cheat mode get all the items u need that can be accessed like a chest or have any sort of click able options u ID's and make a note of them all and start adding them in the right places in the configs for TOWNY and Essentials. Plugins will not support Tekkit by default, also if you want protection like HAWKEYE or LOGBLOCK for Rollbacks of grief you need to use a plugin called CoreProtect that does support Tekkit mods.
  17. I remember the move from Hey0 to Bukkit what spiraled that mess was a certain someone pre maturely started a thread boycotting Hey0 wrapper I cant mention who it was because they might be here as well, But I distinctively recall that they started a debate about Bukkit being the NEW thing and Hey0 is going to die hurr derr and there was whole fuss over it and Hey0 pretty much came out and said "well freck you all, you guys a can have the source and you can update this for the rest of time being" This same person was also refused to continue working with Bukkit after I disclosed some information to the leading developer of Bukkit I got of a developer about the person in question putting bad code into the wrapper with the intent to hinder certain plugins and slow them down. This person had a bit of a problem with competition you see and he was pretty arrogant. This of course turned out to be true and he was booted from the Bukkit Release cycle, Moving on from that Bukkit used to be slow because before they had such huge success they had to manually de-obfuscate the vanilla source code before they could start making any changes. Some good months prior to Mojang picking them up they were in deep talks with Mojang and were given de-obfuscated source versions of the game prior to the release of an upcoming update this why they got quicker and their staff list was growing by this stage as well among other things such as bandwidth and server specs. But all of this aside my bottom line here was just trying to point out that there may be better ways to go about a release and I intended to discuss it with out acting like the rest of the whiners around here. I understood why they did it, I just had to question it against the other obvious things that arise from doing so. I do believe with we had a minor version update not too long ago with 3.0.3 going to 3.0.4 and a minor client patch was applied. If these things were true and I am not just imagining that it happened than why is doing the release they do now better then just applying a hotfix later it is like I said nothing will change from the work standpoint of things only that the debates and confusion that surround update time would vanish and they would still be pushing out development builds like they have always done and any person with an IQ and decent server hosting background would go thru the motions regardless how they release the end product its just less burden on everyone if the client was updated as well on release day for the server. That was all just my opinion but hey they don't have to take any of the advice I have or even care, I mean look at Bukkit and Spout they don't want to associate with eachother anymore because they both wanted different directions, Spout wants the server to send mods to the client and each server can be in control of the client, they are even writing there own engine code for Minecraft and the Vanilla Minecraft files run as a mod on the server, it actually has its own VANILLA folder in the mods directory , I was mucking around with its alpha a day or so ago. While Bukkit on the other hand they want to keep wrapping and Mojang as far as I'm concerned seem to dislike the modding community as they wont even let Bukkit who as you know are now Mojang Staff move their Bukkit project into the Vanilla Server.jar instead they want to keep the two separate and are making Bukkit update the vanilla commands. If you want to know more about Bukkit and Spout or Vanilla happenings drop me a PM I don't wish to derail this much if I can help it. I really should be going to bed its now 4am and my post English is getting slacker. I don't think there is a lot more I can or wish to discuss about the flogged to death debate over how to release the finished package that is Tekkit as I said I only wanted to write some thing decent up with decent arguments for and against both methods because from what I have read its just been a case of one fan boy vs another and no real intellectual thinking went on before posting an opinion at least not the the newer stuff I have read recently.
  18. Take this up with the plugin developers as mods do not directly have any permissions that will effect players your plugins will decide what players can do with items that are registered on the server and for that you need to nodes for each plugin you plan to use and a somewhat idea of how to pull it off. If your really have no idea how to prepare the server and block items and other required things maybe you should not host one publicly unless its just for friends. At the very least you should be able to research enough to get the information required for what you are after. I don't believe you searched because all these things are on Bukkits plugin pages and not here. You seem to know about plugins and what ones you are after try searching those plugins on Bukkits sites. Tekkit by default Tekkit will allow any player to craft or place anything if you wish to control this you need to refer to your plugins configurations and assign groups and plugin permissions accordingly as well as spend a nice amount of time testing that your hard work is working.
  19. Well I was referring to Bukkit in general way before they became mojang they were pushing out builds that could be forked and so on in mostly real time so I think that point has not validation to it since except for the fact there was no client updating required but I have already taken that into account. As for that second bit "which for now I will just assume was a troll attempt" No not at all most of regular players will pick it up just fine and we don't spoon feed our player base there is no need for that if they don't like it they can just leave find a server with no rules or regulations of any kind. Sure I can vouch for the fact that half of the new players who come and go are morons that fail to type a single command shown on a massive monitor to get the password that unlocks the terminal that keeps the door closed and them from the outside world until they can follow a simple instruction. Sure I do have to throw them the base command for something like Towny or show them where a decent a plot can be found because I didn't exactly give them a shining arrow to the plots directly I did put a nice glowing path in the direction they must travel but hey if they don't wander off the track to find the plot not my issue I just let someone else feed them that stuff who gives more a crap about that petty issue. Bottom line is I only really ever just give the command to the text document that holds the information they seek and they can read it or not not my problem after that. However considering that a lot of the playerbase for us are not used to tekkit or builds what so ever since we moved from Bukkit vanilla to tekkit recently in the past month any of them who have never used something like spout client will get pretty lost if I didn't tell them that it actually existed which is not unreasonable I do have forums telling them this and I tend to just link them to said thread and let them figure it out. Just for the record I never said I was not happy with the way things are now I just said it could be improved and I think I debated the fact that there was no real deference either way more than anything. Oh good lord look at the time, 3am I'm going to bed.
  20. Fair enough, I will just make do like we all do when the Mojang half ass a release and give us a broken game. If the team stumble across this so be it I guess but I don't see a need to drag it up again if others have talked about these points already.
  21. I modified my post, maybe I will but are they going to be as reasonable as I am or just ban me?, I don't call this arguing I am just trying to get the other side of the ball across but constructively. How would I take this up I am pretty sure there is a rule about PMing a member of Staff. I would probably just be yelled at anyway but like I said in my modified post above I am NOT here to stir up trouble I just wanted to try find a better solution. Sorry for wasting your time.
  22. I don't know can I see the site usage and limits ?, too many factors to say here, Bukkit's site is probably heavier and they push lots of versions. That is what I have done, but its about equal as your above quote "You don't think the Technic site's bandwidth is high enough already?" Except this applies to the server host. Nope that was pushed too late its dated as yesterday the hassle has already started this info needs to be on the download page and cleanly worded "Recommended Client not available right now use Development Client" That is a fair point. Still its just repeating itself, I mean You give server a reco but not client saying its for testing and reporting of any issues before launching client reco which has its pro's but you still get your fixes if you just released the reco on both then you can still get feedback and owners wont have any hassle as they will do the testing of plugins and things regardless and you guys will push a server fix if required or minor client version update as required regardless. The only thing that changes is that we have no one confused. As it stands right now I am look over the forums and I am seeing a lot of new floods of " I CANT CONNECT" and "THIS HAS BUG OR IS BROKEN" these all started when the 3.1.1 was announced and some of them are labeled as 3.1.1 issue but its too late now if its a server issue you cannot fix that with out a new minor release because its already released. Look I'm not here to cause a stir or anything I cant make things be changed I can only offer validation for why improvement could be made.
  23. Yes I read the links that had you guys saying that, But I responded to the post that gave me those links and I had my take on it as the post above yours, I understand the whole principal but in reality it just does not always work the way you plan it. To viably test this for an extended time I need to actually them and explain to them how to swap to development build which takes time, as most of them fail to read any other form of communication that I have posted on the website or Forums or MOTD or a simple News Feed. After All of this is done I push the update then some people come on while I get more who start screaming about missing information and not knowing how to get back on. Then When its time to actually tell them to swap back to recommended the cycle repeats without the server update part. My point ?, Its going to be about the same hassle either way, It would be better time spent leaving the build on development and offering a second download as a development download or Test Build Section and letting those who do have the IQ average to accomplish the task of migration and then reverting to give these new builds a good run through and also because its pushed as development any thing important that comes up during the week the client normally would have to wait for an update can be applied to the to be recommended build before it is pushed to the server and client. I totally understand what an ass discussion it would have been to figure out how to do the release but I am just giving an opinion and hopefully something worth reading that is not the same as the other whiners, the overall moral though is if the host is wanting to try an update out before his players are forced to use it then he or she would do using a development build much like he or she would update a plugin to a development build for testing if a fix really worked or not, There are times when development builds are quite stable. If the releases are going to continue like this then I would be nicer to and easier for everyone if it was not splashed all over the front page and contained within the Forums with a nice note saying that the client does not update right away. I know you cannot please everyone but I am just trying to offer viable solutions that may work better in the long run for both parties involved. Both have perks and Cons but I think your going to have the same situation regardless how you do it, if you keep going the way you are you solve a lot of the hassle on this end of things but you create more when people who have been testing it out come back and whine about bugs or broken features, stuff this is too late to fix in the current release but could have been detected and easily applied to the pushed recommend build.
