  1. as freakachu said they only use fuel to move. Each turtle moves a maximum of 4 blocks for each opening and closing. Coal/Charcoal gives you 96 fuel. So that's about 14 opening and closes per piece of coal/charcoal. To be honest that's not too bad. Fill it with a coal-fuelcan and you get 1824 movements (456 openings or closes). That'll probably last you for all the time you have the door. I guess you have to ask yourself how often are you planning on opening and closing the door? Also as freakachu said you can build a refueling system and if you have enough materials for 4 turtles I'm pretty sure you'll have enough fuel for your door =)
  2. Yeah it's something I'd never really thought of before until I came across a problem in my survival world which would normally require an insane amount of pistons. It's good if you want to show off how many resources you have. Also you can make really really large doors without breaking much of a sweat. I am planning on live streaming the making of a 9x9 door which should be fun and interesting! =D Not got a specific date for it as of yet but we'll see what happens! Hopefully it will be soonish =D
  3. Hey there. You know those old 3x3 piston doors? Do you find that they are really large, clunky and difficult to get your head around? Don't you just hate it when you come across a design, build it in your world and suddenly realise it doesn't work because of patches or directional bugs? Have you tried making frame doors but you just can't make them look cool enough without making them extremely over complicated and pricey? If you answered yes to any of those questions, I think your going to like this. Introducing your neighbourhood friendly wireless mining turtle! What can he do? Well he can dig and place blocks of course! So want to see an example of his amazing work? Well there's our 3x3 door. Granted you'd have to jump a bit to reach the gap but you can fix that later by sinking it into the ground a bit. There really is no reason it is in the air, apart from for you to see how it works. So first - does it work? Well now you can see that it works. Well you can trust me that it does... Or you could get the code from below and try it out yourself! So you may be wondering why you can't see the turtles at all? Well the front is completely pasted in obsidian covers. This is just to make the whole thing look much more flush with the wall. Take a look: Of course if you still don't believe that it works feel free to check out the video I made about it here: But guess what the best part is? You get the code for free! The download link is below: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?yuqdd0zuaukwm1z I've tried to make the code as user friendly as I possibly can. Watching the video will also help you to understand a bit more how to use it. However I do also plan on writing a mini tutorial on how to use the turtle door code package. Thanks and I hope you enjoyed the invention!
  4. So you know those 3x3 piston doors. They are really big and super clunky right? Well I had an idea to make a really ultra small version of a 3x3 door but instead of using pistons why not use turtles? You may be thinking "why use turtles anyways?". Well one con with using turtles is that they are by no means cheap however they look super cool AND you can make absolutely huge doors and it really doesn't get any more complicated than your 3x3 door. If you need any more persuasion you can make really ultra cool and intricate designs including doors which open in a "circular" pattern! Imagine it! Now we have a piston that can go round corners . So here's the beautiful video : Using turtles in your doors is also fast and compact and they are extremely user friendly unlike redstone. Anyways I hope you enjoyed the video and I managed to persuade to you that turtles are the new pistons. In my opinion turtles are the way to go -> even in the new versions of computercraft where turtles have fuel. Just top the turtles up with 5-10 blaze rods and that'll keep them going for a long time! Anyway I hope you enjoyed the video and I'll see you next time for the next video I release!
  5. Fair enough =) Thanks!
  6. It's not really a let's play... =L But fair enough =D
  7. Man it's been a while since I posted a tekkit video... And on the tekkit forums at all actually... But here it is, finally. A new video! =D So I bring you the 1st of my Tekkit server tours!!! Within this tour you will discover an awesome, yet expensive, 3x3 door design, the Leap of Faith, my very own mass EMC generator (yet to be improved upon), the possibility of me live streaming while I make a 9x9 door and the beginnings of a sorting, request, auto-craft room! Well I must say I hope you enjoy watching the server tour as much as I enjoyed making it with my friends! =) Hopefully these server tours will give you new ideas and help you become even more innovative with the mods than you were before! As well as just a bit of fun Enjoy! =D
  8. From what I remember this is not any bug or anything tekkit related. It's a vanilla minecraft change which caused all old worlds to get pretty much wiped out. It's due to the new world gen. Sorry about that man.
  9. I am no modder and my programming knowledge barely covers matlab... However I can come up with ideas. As OmegaJasm said people were saying 'it was removed due to the 'minor' bugs'. So I was saying 'well why not keep it in and allow people to choose whether or not they want to have the minor bugs or not?' If the bugs were game/world breaking then they wouldn't be minor and then I would never have suggested such a thing. i.e. the only reason I suggested that idea was because people were saying the bugs were minor.
  10. Well... It was either make a machine to craft solar arrays and make solar arrays - more resources req. or make solar arrays manually - faster and less resources required. And seen as this was to get unlimited resources in the first place, which we didn't have before, we went with the second one. IMO it would be a much better idea for tekkit to leave the crafting table mk3 in tekkit but in the server properties of the server there is a question as follows: Crafting Table Mk3 available? - true/false therefore people can turn it on or off as they please =) but those of us who can live with the minor bugs can still use them =)
  11. So what can we use to replace the crafting table mk3 in our single player tekkit worlds?
  12. I totally agree. On my server me and my friends wanted 8 HV solar arrays (for EMC generation mwuhahaha). Without the crafting table mk3 it would have been much much harder than it was. If there are fatal bugs then I can see the point however I do have some single player worlds using tekkit and my right click (mac pad) is much different to the average mouse. I hope this is re-added or something to make it useable in single player tekkit.
  13. Some nice ideas with the mob grinder. I may have to try that though I personally never saw the point in the sword turtle. Mainly because turtles still won't be able to track mobs and even if they could the mob can walk diagonally faster than the turtle can go 'forward, left, forward, right' So for a decent mob grinder you'll need a whole line of sword turtle so the mobs can't escape. In my opinion it's just not worth it. There are much better ways to kill mobs off than using 2*n diamonds, where n is the width of the dark room. However, I have to agree. Turtles are very very overpowered for there cost xD Like for the quarry it can go 100x faster than a bc quarry and it doesn't even run off a redstone engine AND it's cheaper!
  14. Indeed. Shame that... But maybe they'll find some other way for pipes. Maybe they could make jacketed pipes? But then again pipes are pretty okay seen as stone and cobblestone pipes still don't mix =D
  15. Haha I suppose this is true =P But for automation purposes I think it can be excused because in the end the redpower sorting machine for example is pretty much a computer which checks items etc. A lot of things in redpower are specialised computers like this. But the difference is if you try to make a sorting system with computer craft turtles it's going to be a lot harder than with redpower though I believe it's much more visually appealing to see turtles which move about with items. That's my opinion anyway =) I agree. I wonder if there will be an update making pipes fit with covers? I think I saw Eloraam post that there would have to be a complete re-write of the code to make them compatible. Though this may have just been for her to make covers compatible with pipes and not the other way round.
  16. redpower is probably what you want to use then. I still haven't used the auto-craftingtable mk2. However I heads Eloraam may be adding her own take on the automatic crafting table which we can assume will be much faster than any auto crafting table we have so far! But we'll see what she comes up with. Turtles and computers may also have that option in the future seen as they are going down the fully automated item transportation systems now =)
  17. It really depends how many diamonds you can muster. If you have plentiful diamonds then pipes are probably the way to go. If you don't want to waste your diamonds then you should probably go with redpower. Also I have to agree with angeldoom22 it seems very much like build craft is much better for liquids than redpower is.
  18. pipes work off a very different concept to tubes. Pipes transport items in any random direction they can go. Tubes always flow to the closest inventory. The great thing about tubes is that they are a constant cost and sorting machines are easier to come by than diamond pipes. Tubes use up more materials in general yet pipe sorting uses more diamonds. Tubes are also a bit more flexible in the sense that the sorting machines send out items in only 1 direction where as the diamond pipes send different types of items in different directions. Converting a system from pipes to tubes is harder than one would think just because the different pipes are very different in the way they transport items. If you've started with pipes it'd probably be better to carry on using them unless you want to completely redesign the whole thing. In the end though I think redpower stuff can end up more compact because you can colour tubes so they don't mix and you can put covers/panels between pipes and wiring where as pipes just mingle. Though each are impressive in there own right.
  19. Redpower is actually very simple. Computercraft and turtles are harder than I thought they would be. It really expects you to already know how to program which is a pain but after spending a day or 2 focusing on it you get the hang of a couple of basics =). Even trying to make your turtle move forward is pretty tricky to start off with. The best thing is don't have anything to elaborate in mind when you start off with.
  20. I have to say I am pretty much the same. I've always considered redpower tubes to be much more efficient and effective than buildcraft pipes. And I am the same. I will either program a mine turtle to quarry for me or a bc quarry just because they require less time. Mining turtle quarries are surprisingly fast too!
  21. Says it all in the title =D Do you like buildcraft pipes or redpower tubes? Do you build your quarries using redpower frames or buildcraft blocks? I'm just curious really =)
  22. Hehe yeah indeed. it's probably better to learn how to program, especially seen as computers are really really cheap to make. Much cheaper than any redpower 2 component. It's a shame that the redpower2 computers are so expensive =P. I don't get on very well with BC pipes or EU =P I just about get by but its RP pipes for me =D
  23. Yep I agree with you there. The simplest way of doing something is normally always the best way. The thing about redstone is coming up with that simple idea. Recently instead of redstone I've been using computercraft computer blocks just because they can do exactly what you want to do in a single block.
  24. What I did when I started was I focussed on one particular mod. I focussed on Equivalent Exchange because with EE you can pretty much run a creative map. When I first played on tekkit I'd turn all my copper and tin and silver straight into emc until I got a decent flower going. Then after getting a decent flower with mk2 energy collectors and a mk3 relay I built my first quarry. I think a great way to get through tekkit is focus on one mod at a time. When you have learnt all the mods then you can start to think about the best ways of doing things. Like a lot of people don't realise that the RM-furnace from EE is like a Macerator and a Furnace combined, because you get 2 ingots per piece of ore. Though EE is a long road, Industrial Craft is a slightly shorter road. However you'll find that only when you start merging mods does stuff get really good. Hope this helped!
  25. Indeed. Last time I watched one of duncan's tutorials it just looked like he didn't know what he was doing. xD The one thing that annoys me about direwolf is that he doesn't know anything about vanilla redstone =P. So when he has something which could take very little resources with regular redstone, he uses red alloy wire instead and it just makes me cringe... But that's what comes from being a vanilla redstoner for a year or so I suppose
