Mojang has talked with lawyers but I don't think they aheva full-time group of lawyers to back em up, maybe one though. Also word of advice, it's good to have a friend that is a lawyer . In regards to why I choose to not use the best of grammar , it is because I don't want to sound like a smart-ass , since that can be quite mean to some people. Lack of english is a form of english 8) . Maybe the word 'war' was a bit over the top, but you get my general drift . Maybe the word 'argument' is better suited. I just wish people could have normal civilicsed discussions with varying opinions without people becoming so hostile. Also when referencing to curse, it is trying to make profit by hosting something that is needed. I'm not rolling all the blame to them, I'm just saying that in their effort to make more money they don't allways do what's better for their users. On the point of corrupution in communities in general I'd say that the reason is fools/noobs following the every word of some 'genuis' creator, who thinks they're up in the sky and think only of their own opinion and that everyone should agree upon them on it. Also damn you youtube... damn you... Anyway back to spacetoad going outta buisness, anyone know what kind of plans his replacements have? I wonder what other cool stuff buildcraft will have added :)

i really hope mojang wil stay indie, as soon as company becomes large scale it turns into a EA nightmare... I truly wonder what other amazing games they will make.. Also I advice checking out the 2011 indie games of the year, there are some pretty cool games like a 3d space-exploration one that generates worlds dynamicly and another amazing sandbox game that isn't blocks but has much more smoothness and even more levels of creativity.

Fine tuning dear chap .

So if i were to make a mod with the current ToS and then they change the ToS my mod could suddenly be pulled away and taken as property of mojang?! Wow they really need to change their terms of service. I used to mod oblivion, and I disagree with 80% sex mods, yes theres a lot of those weird sickos making such mods but there were waaay more town, houses, etc mods then their ever was of those. However , like minecraft, the community has been corrupted by that stupid nexus website with their absurd terms and voting system(all the popular mods suck...). The same is happening to skyrim... In truth I don't think there's any large games which don't have corrupted modding behind them due to companies like curse trying to make as much profit as possible rather then concentrate on actually improving the game the mods are for. The only places where you ever see good nice communities are with more small time moddable games, like creeper world. The legal stuff and copyright is indeed all bullocks, but modders can little but try to give themselves the illusion of control and the only function it gives is to cause useless arguments and set a form of functioning in the community which has grounds on.... nothing. I think the only way you can get a truly honest , nice, and functionin community is if you keep it small time with enforced and well thought out rules. All large communities are doomed to the flaws in humanity(which can be controlled to a extent in small communities) it's truly impossible to have a one million member modding community without 'parties', douches, and the arrogant. Anyway it seems we're all sceptical to humanity in the end, we're all quick to judge. Indeed, one assumes that I magicly know everything you do about how the modding community works, whilst in truth i was still ignorant to bash down on this is truly unrational. As you see I am quite capable of using correct grammar and such, but I choose not to due to it being invalid and useless point in any argument which many back-down upon when at loss. Finally, I think this thread should be lock before we start a forum war and the whole discussion gets out of control. All the opinions and facts are there on this thread, now just awaiting the proper patient eye to read them. For this reason could someone lock and sticky the thread please , so others may learn from what has been discussed here? (this is a suggestion not a order, before i get bashed down upon that as well... ).

Wow once again you astound me with your all you well thought out answers . 1, Amazingly enough i have played dwarf fortress, and cube 2 so I can definetly see insipiration coming form them. Unfortunately cube 2 seems to be dying(barely and players, lots of trolls) . Minecraft is truly the most ingenious sandbox game in existence, the only next tier up is when technology develops to the point of virtual realities... 2. I'm not sure what message mojang is sending by having bukkit join them but i'm guessing it'll piss off the other api develops(why U no choose meh!?) , but having forge join them as well will make the minecraft team huge... 3. Is that why NOW that's what I called minecraft died? *shudders* will the same thing happen to technic *shudders*? 4. That NEXT BIG THING sounds really cool, I'm googling it now . Your very right about new games inspiring new mods, e.g. skyrimcrafy, fablecraft... I think some loony will start making modds based on TV shows next... Also wow if mojang is so rich, why doesn't it appear to be investing into other indie developers or their own new large projects, let alone why don't they get a larger team to speed up development of COBALT and Scrolls...

Nicely , and some what cussingly : , said. Adfly has definetly torn apart the community... if you need money so bad have donations :)

*FIX* Tekkit 2.1 - ComputerCraft + Bundled Wire
hindos replied to Leroy's question in Tekkit Classic
Why did you HAVE to make two threads? -
It's very clear he's against the minecraft community... : . I'm unsure how he feels about ad-fly though...

I've been on the forums for a bit and... wow ur right. It's filled with trolls, ungrateful noobs, hacks, forum-breaking updates, and useless repeat arguments. Anyone know where there is a better community we can hang out in, one with more respect for modders? My main problem is , whether I like it or not, I'm forced to used the forums to contact modders for permissions, and I don't feel like stealing mods no matter how horrible, judgmental, or unfair a mod-maker is. However, once we're done with that and start making our own mods we're outta there.

Thanks for explaining how technic was created but wasn't what you explained quite a lot of time ago, didn't the modders cool off by now? Maybe if you try to get permissions now(not necessarily all) it would make technic seem even better then it allready is . It does appear however that it wasn't your intention , initially, to do these things and everything just escalated out of control. I understand why and how these things happened now, but you are like-wise branding the entire minecraft community. All though most of them are as you describe, not everyone is there are still a few honest people trying to tame the bear. There's a lot of modders in the pack, I find it hard to believe they're all douches ... Anyway this wasn't about me choosing whether or not to use technic, this is about whether you can try to mend those events. The incentive being ,whether you dislike someone's personality and actions or not, to sooth any hard feeling left behind and let alone those who are too stubborn to be healed. The technic pack is a great and succesful addition to minecraft , and has had lots of work go into it. One thing though when you say 'minecraft community' which communitie(S) are you pointing at? Since technic is related to minecraft it is a minecraft community... so i assume you mean those terribly unorganised forums. I agree that these forums which try to uphold a new sense of quality actually might be having a effect on not just technic but to anyone who stumbles upon it, so whether your reasons or not if people truly understand what occured and what technic really is it might turn the minecraft community as a whole in a positive direction. That's what I strive for, not community factions fighting endless battles filled with rage, it should be a nice harmonic , sharing, fair, and rewarding experience. That's the incentive to try and tame the bear.

I like asking questions : 1. Did anyone attempt to make a game similar too minecraft before minecraft was made? 2. Will this whole bukkit buisness be good or bad for minecraft, and will the original creator get any credit for starting that road? 3. What was the first mod ... ever made for minecraft? 4. Will the minecraft community ever run out of ideas for mods, will the game allways continue to be updated and perhaps one day become minecraft II? What's going to happen in the more distant future, i have a feeling some annoying coropation is going to buy minecraft from notch for loads of money then turn it all money-grubbing and change the ToS.
-
Now im just sad .... :P
-
Wow that's very nice of you , I'd love to donate too but can't (it was allready hard enough to persuade them into buying me minecraft : ) . More money isn't a excuse for doing things like this IMO... Also I disagree with people being more open, I get loads of NO's from modders(and no i don't say 'WHY U NO GIVE ME YA MOD IN MAH PACK BROTHA?!') but that might be the reason they were 'forced' to do things in such (for lack of a better word) dishonest ways. Ok that's all history and all that, but now that everyone is more open adn starting to respect technic isn't it possible to be a bit nicer and smoother with this stuff and get the permissions despite allready including them in the pack?
-
That quote is wrong, besides if you look back i was reading this thread from the beginning Anyway copyright and legal stuff aside I don't care about those, I care that one might spend countless hours creating a mod and wanting to keep it based in your own website for all to downlaod it from and then to suddenly find out your mod is included in a pack without them ever telling/asking you is not nice. What's most important however, is whether or not if you received an email from one of these modders asking you to remove the mod, would you remove it? Anyway stop bearing down on my typos man, my keyboard is badly damaged from being used so much and that's kinda douchey of you to use my typos as a way of saying 'I'm better then you because I can spell properly'...
-
Well I now understand why some people hate technic because this isn't very fair buisness people, I'm making a modpack as well and asking permission from each and every author and screenshotting it, that's how technic should go about doing it to-nice and honest, using persuasive language to try and convince people of their quality and intentions. If you guys want to get proper respect, the launcher is great and everything but without permissions a lot of people won't like you. God .... not nice to have my golden image of technic get crushed like that :'( ... Or we're all mis-interpreting this and kakermix meant that they are angry that he doesn't use ad-fly as they do, so they are 'stealing money away from them'. Please say it's this <--
-
In all seriousness though , you really don't have written (screenshoted) permission to include the mods in the pack and instead just googled up their mods put em in dah pack adn got it over with? Even if it benefits them that's stealing all their hardwork and effort...
-
What! I find it hard to believe they never asked for permission. That's breaking copyright...
-
'The hate we get now is leftover stuff. Spacetoad was ok at first, until he likened using Buildcraft without his permission was akin to stealing beer. I disagreed with him, and reminded him that no matter how many adf.ly links you put a download link behind it isn't selling. I also reminded him that the exposure he got was because of the Yogscast covering Technic, and that exposure is great. He claimed that they 'would have covered it anyway'. (not according to Lewis) He got furious and flew off the handle, and we stopped talking. ' -Kakermix What do you mean, did the technicpacl include buildcraft without permission and use ad-fly links?
-
Damn it man I thought this was going to be a really sad story about your health issues :'( ... thank god it isn't but EVIL for tricking meh!

Actual events: They travelled via airplane and their own money to EE's home and rang the doorbell. Then after giving him a box of chocolates and having a nice long conversation about the world, minecraft, and modding EE thanked them for coming and then the technic team turned into beautiful shiny angels and EE could little but give them permission to his mod merely due to their utter brilliance, beauty, and holyness.

Re: Metropolis Blog Errr no... we're currently making another modpack = 8) to enhance ssp. After I've finished learning java I'll be able to help out with our other projects *wink* But if you do have suggestions for mods feel free to suggest and you will get credit if we make your idea a reality ;)
-
Making everything open-source makes it harder for technic to suprise us :'( ... :P
