  1. I think I've worked out the base cause of this java 6/7 issue, and I'm suspecting spyware. Just had somebody fix it by removing something called 'RelevantKnowledge'. Looks like it's not being picked up by some virus scanners, so it's not even on the radar for most people.
  2. If you haven't payed for a 'premium' version of Minecraft then you may not legally play Technic or Tekkit, and nobody on these forums can or will help you until you pay for it.
  3. That's going on my list. Hadn't even considered a spyware app getting in the way. Also, this error message isn't exactly uncommon and given how badly infected some people's systems are, I bet this is more of a root cause than the folk knowledge that people like Habalo spread around.
  4. We need to know the version of Windows you're using, not just that you're in Windows. Also, if you're in Windows XP, the launcher won't work at all presently (although a patch has just been submitted and it should be fixed soon).
  5. One of two things is happening: Either your virus scanner/firewall is blocking Technic, or your internet connection is dead.
  6. Poke around the Real-Time shields section, particularly behavior shield. There should be (perhaps hidden behind an Expert settings link) some way to allow particular programs.
  7. Please ignore Darkovia's advice. You don't want winrar to do anything for Technic. The Linux/JAR file will work for you if you have the right Java installed (see the stickies for that) but you need to right click that downloaded file and choose "Open With" and then select "Java" in the window that opens. Note that because you're on Windows XP, the normal launcher (TechnicLauncher.exe) can't work at all because of a bug that hasn't been patched yet.
  8. If it works in safemode, I'm going to suspect your graphics driver and suggest you look for an updated manufacturer's driver. If that doesn't work, manually updating LWJGL may get you some success. Does the normal Minecraft launcher and base game work, or do you get a white screen in that as well?
  9. Your computer is a 64-bit computer. If not, Java 64-bit would be impossible to both run and install. If the Java you have now gets you past 'Checking launcher version..." then you have a good enough Java, so don't worry about that. When the launcher hangs on the splashscreen/technic logo, it means something is preventing you from downloading the mods from the technic site. That something is a firewall or virus scanner. So you can either disable your firewall and virus scanner, or you can open their management page, find the block logs, find where they blocked technic (might be listed as Java instead) and use the allow/pass/green buttons or menu options to let technic work.
  10. I smell a holy war. Grindle, me and my copy of 7z.exe are at your side.
  11. Freezing on the Technic banner means that the Technic launcher is being forbidden to access the Technic site. The only way that can happen is if an overzealous virus scanner interferes, such as Norton, or if your firewall isn't configured to trust Technic, as Norton is by default. Disable the whole of Norton, not just autoprotect, and then try the launcher again.
  12. And just in case the threads you find are insufficiently clear: _oopsilon, the only reason the technic launcher would limit you to 1.5GB of memory is that Technic was started with a thirty-two bit Java. This is why the various stickies urge you to install only the correct version of Java and have no other versions installed, for Java is a jealous god.
  13. Three things. First, 3.12 is your modpack version, not the launcher version. Second, any error that occurs after the Mojang logo appears is a Modpack error, which doesn't belong in the Launcher errors forum. Thirdly, you've neglected to provide the error log, which is required if you actually want a solution.
  14. Try http://www.everydaylinuxuser.com/2012/09/how-to-resolve-tekkit-launcher-freeze.html if you can't get ZA removed, but start at step 6 because he was doing a bunch of unrelated stuff as well. This guy had your problem and claims to have fixed it.
  15. You're either starting the launcher twice, and it's trying to update on top of itself, or your virus scanner is being overzealous and stomping on the launcher. Fix one of those and it should work for you.
  16. 1) Your Java is antique and should be updated, as every single thread suggests, including the stickies that you should have read. 2) This is a modpack bug. Modpack bugs go in their respective forum.
  17. You should search before posting. That message is safely ignorable and means nothing.
  18. He's on Windows XP. The launcher won't help him (still broken...patch is submitted but not yet accepted). @brettbeat: You need to download the Linux/JAR file launcher. It's in the same place as the other launcher, just down the page about an inch. The file is 'technic-launcher-latest.jar'. When it's downloaded you can right click it, choose open with, and select Java in the window that opens. Enjoy tekkit.
  19. Threadjacking is a sin, and the 10.5 series is also limited (afaik) to Java 5. However. If your MBP is an intel model you should be able to manually install Java 6 x64 from java.com. If you have problems after that feel free to make your own thread.
  20. I've sent several more patches that should make the launcher considerably more bullet proof. If the launcher dev is around, having them considered for merging would make a few people much happier.
  21. The "Program Files (x86)" directory is only for 32-bit software. If you're on a 32-bit computer, you can't run 64-bit software, so there's no need for two program folders. If you have Java installed in "Program Files (x86)" you have the wrong version, regardless of anything else about your computer. Java's site is a touch flaky and just hands out the 32-bit version to everybody. Normally it'd be fine, but Tekkit is just too big to be happy in 32 bits, so the launcher will only use a 64-bit version on a 64-bit computer. You don't need to do the uninstall and reboot and delete this time, as that was just required to definitely clear out all of the remnants of Java 6. Here's a direct link to the correct Java to install: http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=68736
  22. This is a recurring error for a few different people and may need a mod author to patch it. However, one almost guaranteed fix is to delete your %AppData%\.techniclauncher folder (Backup your world saves first!) and have the launcher redownload it.
  23. There's one thing you did wrong, and in fairness I only mentioned this part twice. If you're on a 64-bit computer, you must use 64-bit Java. You installed 32-bit.
  24. Your Windows username may have a space or other funny character, this will break the Windows launcher and you should use the Linux/JAR launcher instead.
  25. Okay, now we're getting somewhere, thank you. Now let's go to your %AppData% folder and delete the ".techniclauncher" folder in it. Then re-download the technic launcher and run that. This should actually work this time.
