  1. Loving the pack, but I'm having a bit of a problem. All spawners in the game seem to have been replaced with 'limited mob spawners'. This is fine, except the spawners seem to completely ignore light levels and will spawn monsters even if the entire area is covered in torches! I'm wanting to use capsules to pick up spawners I find that are interesting and then relocate them into a mob grinder for use, but I'm worried that if I can't turn them on and off using lighting that I'll end up getting too many monsters really quickly. Is there a configuration file somewhere in the modpack that I can tweak to fix this?
  2. Umm, I told him to do that to the .jar file. If it's still a .zip he needs to file convert like you said.
  3. This one's an easy solution. Go to the folder with the .jar file in it, rightclick on the file, then select "Open With". It will bring up a menu of options to run the file with, choose "Java Platform". It should run right away. Also, your operating system would be where you put the version of Windows you are running (XP, 7, whatever you are running, Mac if you are running on a mac.)
  4. I sort of did Jorcer, in fact, you helped me fix it, remember? That was an old post. In line with fixing this problem, try turning off your firewall as you go in, or if you are advanced technically check your firewall logs and whitelist the IP address that technic contacts during startup. My problem was ZoneAlarm silently blocking the request it was sending, causing the program to hang while waiting for a reply from the server.
  5. Very glad to hear my suggestion helped, as it took me a good 6 hours of hunting when I had the problem to figure it out :D
  6. Actually Grimm, I had the EXACT same problem. Try disabling your firewall, I was using ZoneAlarm and it was silently (no popup) blocking the launcher's access to the Technic install servers, preventing it from getting past the Technic banner. Try booting up your firewall, opening the alert logs, and whitelisting the IP address that it tries to ping to.
  7. The launcher loads if I have it on, but the sound is borked and the game runs very choppy and laggy. If I turn it off until the world loads, then turn the firewall back on, it loads just fine. However, if I turn it off till i hit minecraft's main menu, turn it on, then load my world, sound is still bugged, meaning it's something that tries to talk out while the world is loading.
  8. Actually it's not giving me individual file warnings, or I'd know what to whitelist. What it's doing is repeatedly attempting to contact various IP addresses, and if I block those requests the sound dies. No crash or error messages are generated during this, or I'd have more to go on myself.
  9. I'm not worried about the Technic pack. I keep a firewall on to keep outside attacks out as well as block internal stuff. If I was honestly concerned about Technic being bad, I wouldn't install it, so I trust it pretty much completely at this point. However, it's irritating to me to have to open my firewall up and disable it, then re-enable it each time I start up minecraft, and beyond just the annoyance factor I also don't like taking down the security I have for any length of time if I can avoid it.
  10. OK, here's some stuff to try. Go to your Roaming/.techniclauncher folder, see if it created a .jar file. If it did, great, just manually run that file and you are golden. If not, go to http://www.technicpack.net/download/ and manually download the .jar file from there (the option is Linux/JAR File). If it saves as a zip, just rename the extention from .zip to .jar and it'll be fine. Put that in the .techniclauncher folder and run it manually (use the Java Runtime option under "Open With") and you SHOULD be good. Also, if you could, tell us what version of windows you are running and take a screenshot of that error and post it via imageshack so we can see it.
  11. Actually no Warpspeed, it's my home computer. I have easy access to it, I simply don't LIKE turning my firewall or antivirus off for anything, as it seems to be an unnecessary risk compared to the much simpler and long-term fix of whitelisting the files that need access to the net. That's why i'm asking for the list of files to whitelist, since having Java, the launcher, the technic jar, and the minecraft jar in the technicssp folder doesn't seem to cut it, which honestly is everything I can think of that should reasonably have any purpose attempting to ping out.
  12. Launcher Version: 1.0.1.3 Operating System: Windows 7 service pack 1 64 bit Java Version: 64 bit Java 7 update 7. Antivirus Program: Microsoft Security Essentials Description of Problem: ZoneAlarm firewall keeps blocking requests from the launcher and mods in-game, do we have a list of the various files that send these requests? While I can whitelist each individual IP, I'd rather just whitelist the file sending them as it's quicker. And please, do not suggest just turning my firewall off, that's not an option. EDIT: I've added the launcher, the launcher's .jar, and the technicssp/bin folder's minecraft.jar to the whitelist already. Error Messages: None Error Log: None
  13. Ok, first off, go to the folder where you have the .zip version. Rightclick the .zip. Select the "Rename" option. Highlight .zip in the name, hit backspace, type .jar, hit enter. It will give you a warning about changing the file extension, ignore this warning as this is a needed step. After you've renamed the file, rightclick it again, select "Open with" and find Java in the list, run it with Java, and you are done.
  14. Yes, many of the mods havent got a 1.3.2 release yet so sadly it has to stick with 1.2.5 (i miss easy lan connect!).
  15. Umm... couple quick questions. Do you currently have a working install? If so, what version of the launcher did you use for that? Also, what type of antivirus and firewall you are using is important as well. If you could include those we could help a LOT more.
  16. OK, here's some stuff to try. Go to your Roaming/.techniclauncher folder, see if it created a .jar file. If it did, great, just manually run that file and you are golden. 17. Glad to help, have fun with the pack it's definitely awesome.
  18. Sorry, no offense dude but I'm not comfortable handing out personal contact methods like that. I'd suggest taking a screenshot and putting it up on Imageshack and tossing a link here, cause honestly Jorcer is better than me with this stuff.
  19. Then you need to go to the link that both me and Jorcer provided, click on the "Linux/JAR" download to get the base file.
  20. Rightclick the .zip file, select "Rename", highlight the ".zip" part of the file, hit backspace, type ".jar" in it's place, hit enter. Done. If you don't see a ".zip" on the end of it, go to your folder settings and turn on "show file extentions". EDIT: Spelling fail, fixed.
  21. You don't make one, you download it. It's available from the download page at http://www.technicpack.net/download/. If it gives you a .zip file, just rename the ".zip" part to ".jar" and you'll be fine. Once you have that, run it with the java runtime to get your game going.
  22. Rightclick on the .jar file, select "Open WIth", then select Java Runtime for the program to run your .jar with.
  23. I'm having the same problem, except I've never used AVG, i'm using MSE.
  24. Launcher Version: Most recent build, downloaded as of 10/7 (no build number on TechnicLauncher.exe Operating System: Windows 7 service pack 1, 64 bit Java Version: Version 7 build 7 Antivirus Program: Microsoft Security Essentials Description of Problem: Upgraded from 32 bit java that was outdated (fully uninstalled old version) then installed most recent 64 bit java install. Technic pack was working correctly before, however repeated 'out of memory' crashes were driving me crazy (about every 15-20 minutes of gameplay). After the update launcher no longer works, it gets to the "techniclauncher" splash screen but never loads the technic menu. I've backed up my world and deleted the .techniclauncher folder and reinstalled, however, now the launcher has not rebuilt the install. UPDATE: Attempted to install the 32 bit java 7 build as well, rewiped .techniclauncher and reinstalled again, same situation. It creates the .jar file, gets the splash screen up, then hangs so badly I have to use task manager to kill java to get the splash screen to go away. UPDATE ROUND 2: Got some help from Lothos on the IRC, on his suggestion I've wiped the .techniclauncher folder entirely, uninstalled all versions of java on the computer, wiped the link in the enviromental system variable "path" to Java, and then rebooted the machine, reinstalled both 32 and 64 bit Java (version 7 update 7) and attempted a clean install of Technic... no luck, still hangs on the splash screen before the menu. FINAL UPDATE: Fixed thanks to Jorcen's expert advice! Give the man a thumbs up he's great, problem was my firewall silently blocking outgoing packet requests without actually blocking the executable itself (which I'd whitelisted as a preliminary step). Whitelisted the actual IP address for the tekket servers and everything is purring along now. Error Messages: None, total hang.
