Tirm Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Hello all, I love Tekkit to death, but I'm really struggling with performance issues. I'm using the Sphax PureBDCraft 64x texture pack with the latest version of Tekkit. The issue is that after 30 or so minutes, the performance becomes jerky and unplayable. When I go into the nether, this just amplifies and becomes almost instantly jerky. My computer specs: Intel i5 16GB Memory GeForce 460GTX WIndows 7 64 Bit Java 1.7 64 Bit launcher.properties file in the tekkit folder: # latestLWJGL: false memory: 2048 retryLogins: true worldbackup: false recupdate: true devupdate: false modpack: tekkit custombuild: '6' launcher.properties file in the launcher folder # latestLWJGL: false memory: 2048 retryLogins: true worldbackup: false recupdate: true devupdate: false modpack: tekkit custombuild: '6' I have tried just about every memory setting from 512 to 5GB to no avail. I have also changed quite a bit of UI information, like render distance, which did help prolong the usability, but the result still inevitable. Any help would be very kind, as its a very frustrating issue. Kind regards Tirm Quote
Xylord Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Just wondering, how is it going if you play with the default textures? Other than that, you might want to manually install Optifine. Quote
The_DarthMoogle Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 You got any machines running? I don't see how normal usage can degrade your performance like you say, unless either your GPU drivers need updating, or your HDD is dying. EDIT : Oh yeah, the mythical 'Optifine blows up your computer'. Do what he said first. Quote

The_DarthMoogle Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 HDD's can die? Sounds scary. Uh huh. If one of the reading heads is faulty, sustained usage of any system intensive program can bugger things up. OP : Does this happen with other games? Do you find the internet really slow after about 40 mins? Quote
Tirm Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 Hi guys, other games work fine no problem at all. Internet does not slow down either. I have task manager open and can see that Minecraft rarely goes about 900MB of ram. As far as machines, yep, I just started using a few, but not many, which is worrying, as I want to build quarries and all sorts! I am using MCPatcher, not Optifine, does that matter? I will try the default texture pack and report back in a couple of hours. Thanks for your comments so far! Tirm Quote
The_DarthMoogle Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 MCPatcher is your problem. Clear Cache, and carry on without any problems whatsoever. Optifine is just fine for whatever you need. Also, don't sing your posts. Quote
soulgriever Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 might i suggest just for giggles uninstalling all forms of java on your pc then installing a fresh 64 bit copy an make sure ur launcher is pulling the 64bit an not the 32 bit Quote
Tirm Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 Thanks DarthMoogle, I will try that. Don't sing your posts, not sure what that means? Quote
Tirm Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 I just cleared /tekkit/cache, its doing an update when I run the launcher, is that right? Quote
gragrayson Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 i am also getting a update atm so it might just be a quick small one or something, small patch for stuff maybe Quote
Tirm Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 Ok cool. Ok few more tests. Cleared out cache, made no difference. Default texture pack made no difference. Going into the nether makes the issue 10x worse and coming back to normal world from the nether results in huge video lag (jerkiness). Quote
The_DarthMoogle Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 In that case, soulgriever is correct, and you are running multiple versions of Java on your system. Good luck! I was also being a dickwad. I meant 'don't sign your posts', but I thought it was indefinitely hilarious to put 'sing' instead. Quote
Tirm Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 Fixed! Uninstalled all java versions, installed java 64 bit, then bam, memory went from 1gb to 4gb in task manager... I wonder.. didnt have 64 bit before? Anyway all resolved, worked for 2 hours straight no issues. Thanks everyone for your help!! Quote
soulgriever Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 not a problem, alot of times when you install 64 bit java even though its there applications like to pull 32 bit instead not sure y but usualy its multiple installations of java that causes it. I think if java was better at cleaning up their mess it wouldnt be a problem cheers Quote
