Alright so question. What is the largest detriment to running a forge version on the server that is less than the client. My server runs Cauldron. Forge for 1.7.10 is at 1407(i'm just guessing don't take it for fact) now maybe? Running cauldron it stopped at around 1231 or 1240? Something like that. So what is the biggest difference from having Forge (Latest 1.7.10) client side and Cauldron 1240 (or whatever it is) server side.

Now I don't want to obvious answers but lets say assuming you have all mods working both client side and server side (I know some require different version of forge) but lets say your mods on the server and your mods on the client match perfectly and the only difference is the forge version on client and the cauldron version on server what is the huge detriment that you might incur since everything is working fine already?

My server host offers 1388 as of today when I checked. I stay on the fence about it because I am currently using forge 1395 and its really smooth despite having a large number of mods. Since the liquid fix and whatnot, I personally want to wait it out a little more because major technology mods are still adapting to the new forge the best they can. I have never mixed and matched diff forge versions with cauldron. I know that there is forge and there is cauldron. Cauldron includes plugin and mod support. Cauldron is server only. In the past, I always had the falling through the world issues with attack of the b team. Since then, I just deal with mods for forge server after an unofficial of cauldron version did not work well with the custom 1.7.10 pack I put together. The forge only did work fine, so that's what I am sticking with atm. I would love to return to cauldron server, but it is just not stable enough for my taste. If you got something working fine, you may want to stick with it in my opinion.

The discriminator right now is the change to the Fluid API which happened with Forge #1355. Any mods which deal with fluids will need to match the version of Forge. This can obviously be problematic. As for Cauldron, there is a nicely working version for Forge #1381. All of the "new" versions (including #1388 and #1403) have known major issues in some ways and will cause problems for you if you run up against them (duplicate tile entities, incompatibility with Opis, etc.)

1381 is working well? Alrighty. 1240 was so stable for me I was hesitant to upgrade past the API changes but I'm glad it got a vote of confidence. ty
