Choosing MC version for tekkit

I'm trying to get a different version of Minecraft launched for tekkit. However i downloaded the one i wanted (1.7.10) and it don't accept the file. Guessing the file might be broke or something.

 

Any advice or tips? Tried searching but due to the vague resemblence between "version" be it MC or tekkit, the searches are so vast, I couldn't spent any more time searching.

The launcher should download Minecraft for you when you install Tekkit. There is no need to download it separately.

It has the latest versions of minecraft, what i want is one of the older versions, for some reason it wont go any farther than the 1.8 versions.

You can only use Minecraft version 1.6.4 if you want to play current Tekkit mod. Any other isn't compatible.

if you wish to play 1.7.10 with the mods that Tekkit has, you have to download all the mods individually as 1.7.10 versions and put them inside a clean 1.7.10 minecraft folder.
