Spencer14 Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Hi, I made a quarry a little aways from my house. it look me 2 stacks of glass fiber cable to power my energy link which powers my quarry. Is this the most energy efficient way or is there a better way? Thanks
stringburka Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I personally like geothermal generators A LOT. A single geothermal generator can power up two electrical engines with ease, which is quarry speed enough for me. One lava cell is 20k energy, one stack is 1.28 million EU, easy to carry. Really cheap too as soon as you've found a lava lake or three.
Spencer14 Posted August 2, 2012 Author Posted August 2, 2012 I have solar panels which work fine. What i want to know is, Is this the most efficient way to transport power? you only loose 1 eu every 40 blocks so i loose around 2 eu.
stringburka Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Well, the alternative is mfsus and lapotron crystals. But its the best cable, if thats what youre asking. It all depends on volune though, how much power you actually need. For a single quarry id rather bring an mfsu and a lapotron crystal or five but thats just me.

You can totally eliminate the energy loss by placing a storage object every 39 blocks. This way, you won't lose anything. Plus, one economic way would be to make this : Base Energy Storage>>>LV transformer>>>batbox>>>39 glass fibre>>>batbox>>>39 gf>>>batbox>>>etc until your electrical engines. This way, you don't have to make masses of expensive MFSU's for nothing.
stringburka Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Yeah, but energy storage for two stacks of glass fibre means cost will be up to: 128/6*2=42 + 3*4=12 54 diamonds, and the result is medium voltage. For high voltage, it'd be 72 diamonds as well as a ton of other stuff. I'm not sure if efficiency just meant minimal energy loss or also cost efficiency, but due the comment on two stacks of glass fibre I assumed cost was also a matter. But seriously, I think an mfsu and like 5 charged lapotrons (total cost 15 diamonds) is MUCH more efficient and should be enough power even for a large quarry like that. And a lot easier to set up, much more compact.
fabricator77 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Quarries only draw 32 EU/t so a MV array and a MFE put next to the quarry would work to run it 24/7.
Lothos Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 you can also use a geothermal, some tanks, and a teleport pipe and then you have a setup you can move, scale, and run multiple quarries remotely if you want at probably the lowest cost possible.
Spencer14 Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 Ya i guess ill take my mv solar array and my mfe and put it up there. But now i have 2 stacks of diamond cable. lol

I don't know about others, but my experience gave me this habit of avoiding teleport pipes like plague, they keep bugging out or forgetting their frequencies in my world.
Spencer14 Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 Can i just have the energy from my mfe go into the nergy link than into my quarry or does it have to be mfe-lv transformer-energy link-quarry? Thanks
Lothos Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I don't know about others, but my experience gave me this habit of avoiding teleport pipes like plague, they keep bugging out or forgetting their frequencies in my world. I've honestly never experienced bugs with mine. Even adding a pump and lots of direct piping I'd still go geo.
