I run the .jar launcher (as i cannot run the .exe) it loads then freezes at the banner

Question

Launcher Version: 1.0.1.3

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Java Version: Java 7

Antivirus Program: Norton

Description of Problem:

When i open up the .jar it loads a little and then comes up with the banner, and then from there the banner freezes. It started when i installed Single Player Commands to technic. When i installed SPC it wouldn't connect to the server, so i ignored it for a while but then I eventually deleted my .techniclauncher folder from %apdata% and tried to install it again. It has been freezing on the banner ever since.

When you installed SPC did you use the automated installer? To install it correctly you need to do it manually. The reason for this is that instead of adding files to the minecraft.jar the files need to go into the modpack.jar. Also make sure you are using SPC for Minecraft 1.2.5 NOT the newest version.

Nah i installed it manually, but i did put spc into the minecraft.jar file. But i have deleted the jar file and tried to download a fresh .techniclauncher folder since, but whenever i run the .jar launcher it just freezes at the banner

Freezing on the Technic banner means that the Technic launcher is being forbidden to access the Technic site. The only way that can happen is if an overzealous virus scanner interferes, such as Norton, or if your firewall isn't configured to trust Technic, as Norton is by default. Disable the whole of Norton, not just autoprotect, and then try the launcher again.

Do you know of a way to disable the whole of Norton without necessarly disabling it forever? The problem is i'm only 15, and my parents wouldn't be too happy if i deleted Norton off the family computer :P

But i don't understand how i was able to play tekkit/technic perfectly before, but now suddenly Nortons is deciding to block the game. I was wondering if there was a way to unblock it (before i delete it) i had a little poke around on google and i can't seem to allow a .jar file through a firewall, and i made a .bat file to start it and allowed that through the firewall but that didn't work either. Because my mother is being annoying and saying "I'll ask our computer tech guy at work" and in the mean time i just thought if there are any other options.

The only options its giving me is to disable auto protect which is what i did before and it did nothing.

THE WHOLE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED.

Turned out it had NOTHING to do with nortons, but i had a spyware program called "RelevantKnowledge" installed onto my computer. I uninstalled that and ta-da works good as new.

Thanks for the help everyone.

For anyone having the same problem and looking for answers:

Control Panel > Uninstall a program

Look for "RelevantKnowledge"

Uninstall "RelevantKnowledge"

Restart computer

Profit

If you can't find "RelevantKnowledge" this isn't the fix for you friendo

That's going on my list. Hadn't even considered a spyware app getting in the way. Also, this error message isn't exactly uncommon and given how badly infected some people's systems are, I bet this is more of a root cause than the folk knowledge that people like Habalo spread around.
