DinosGoMoo Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Hello, first post asking for help, isn't that nice. Anyways. I joined a tekkit server. I like the server so far, but I need an EMC generator design, because there's limits to everything (How many ores you can have, item bans, etc.) I've already checked the standard stuff, the solar panel to EMC (Which is banned on my server), block breaker farm, blaze rod macerater, even stuff like harvest goddess ring with black hole band to farm sugar cane, and mass fabricator EMC generator. All of these are banned on my server. These are the items I cannot use (Not naming them all, but most of the big ones) All rings / amulets Solar Power (from IC2) Any collectors (Including block breakers, energy, etc.) Mass fabricator Water mills Blaze rods *do not* work, blaze powder only gives around 300 EMC I can't use most duping items, either, not that I'd want to dupe (Duping items such as black hole band, trans tablet, etc, all banned too). It doesn't have to be an EMC generator or anything, even any items I can mass farm effectively to collect EMC would be nice as well. Any designs / help would be appreciated. Thanks. ~DinosGoMoo
gavjenks Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Have you considered... you know, not being a douche and trying to subvert your server admin's wishes? It is very blatantly obvious that they don't want anything that creates massive amounts of EMC automatically. if that's what you want to do, join a different server. Why would people here help you cheat on your server?
Linear_Spoon Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Have you tried computercraft? I wrote a simple program that plants saplings and powers a deployer full of bonemeal to create trees to be cut down by the turtle There's plenty of other things you could do if you're creative enough

If you're asking me to mine iron for 10+ hours to get a single dark matter that's not exactly what I'd want to do. Linear Spoon, I'll try your idea.

When somebody has banned the first 63 ways of doing something that you want to do, then continuing to try and come up with new ways is cheating. They obviously do not want people to get dark matter without spending tens of hours mining. If you disagree with me, then how about this: whatever idea you decide on as the best one, go and explain it to your server administrator and see if it's okay. If you're not cheating, as you say, then they should be totally okay with it.

Collectors are banned because it would be "too easy" Blaze rod EMC are banned because they literally make red matter in 10-20 seconds. Most bands are banned because they would be OP in PvP or for dupe glitches. Literally the only sources of EMC that are banned are the ones that get you a stack of red matter in less than 30 minutes. I'm not looking for one of these, I'm looking for something I can farm for a while but make a decent profit as well. There's a topic on my server about netherrack -> condenser EMC generators. It's extremely slow and therefore the admin decided to allow it.

It's extremely slow and therefore the admin decided to allow it. The thing is though that there's no such thing as "slow" and "fast" EMC generators. All EMC generators allow you to use the EMC you make to make more generators. They are subject to exponential growth. So it doesn't matter if it takes 10 hours to get a single diamond. If you can use that diamond to double your output by making your setup twice as big, then you'll get your next diamond in 5 hours. Then 2.5, then 1.25, then 45 minutes... And within a couple of days, if you were on all the time, you would be getting Red Matter every minute. At which point people generally stop, because they have more EMC than they can possibly use. Thus, the only difference between cobble generators and blaze rod macerators is that one hits ceiling levels of production in about an hour, and the other hits ceiling in maybe a few days or a week or so. But after that week has passed, there's no difference - they're both producing RM in a minute and completely flooding the server with EMC. Well there is one difference: the cobble gen lags the server to crap, and the blaze rods dont (making it actually MORE dangerous).

Well, seriously though, with slow EMC generators if you double or triple your design it'll become too big and cause too much lag - which is why there's a limit, if you lag up the server too much with your 500 compressers it'll still get you in trouble.
arentol Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 It is really unclear what is allowed and isn't on your server, and I play technic so some of these might not work anyway, but here are some ideas: Mob farm. Sugar cane farm. Wool farm. Lava bucket farm. Dark Room. You may need to run some of these partly manually, if they work at all, but you should be able to do at least the sugar cane one, e. For instance, build a dark room. If you can't use deployers then stand underneath it and right-click a stack of bone-meal. If you can't use transposers, go break the top area after each stack or two and manually collect the flowers and seeds. Turn them into more bonemeal and repeat until rich.

I.e. gathering must be done by hand. Thus, Mob farms won't work (require something to bring stuff into a chest) Sugar cane farms won't work (require active blocks to knock off the canes and something to bring stuff into a chest), unless manually gathered which might be moderately effective, but not very. same with wool farms and dark rooms. Dunno what you mean exactly by lava bucket farm, so not sure about that one. Simple mining would almost definitely be more EMC/hour than any of these things, when you consider that automating harvester blocks are disallowed.

All vanilla automators are still allowed, pipes are still allowed (Including obsidian), relay matter thing (Converter to raw EMC) is allowed, water is allowed, condenser / compresser / most machines are still allowed -> therefore you can still automate some things. I played for a few hours yesterday and managed to get a dark matter pickaxe which gives EMC pretty quickly when you find some ores, so this is kind of a bonus now. However, automated EMC does help for when I can't play for a few hours straight.
gavjenks Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Oh well in that case, the admin is being a little dumb, since everything you need to create a darkroom is allowed. Actually, everything for a cow milker is allowed, it seems, as well. Build a darkroom/cow milker. Either is almost as effective as blaze rod macerating, for very little lag. They will give you red matter in minutes. Also, I've almost entirely lost respect for the server admins and dont care as much about the whole "cheating" angle, since he/she seems really really indecisive and up in the clouds, and doesn't seem to know what he/she wants. Thus, I'll even help you design it with allowed blocks if you want.

As you see from Dinos response to you the original post was NOT clear about what can and can not be used. Otherwise you wouldn't have misunderstood it. That it was unclear was clear to me the second I read it, and that is why I made other suggestions, and why I said it was unclear. A lava bucket farm is not very efficient, but it is a type of farm that nobody can complain about because you are not creating any EMC out of thin air like you do with most EMC generators.... Buckets are 768 EMC, lava buckets are 832. So you just need to find a massive source of lava (nether), pump a bunch into tanks, collect the lava into buckets, then convert lava buckets into regular buckets to gain 64 EMC per lava source block. It is not something you would do anywhere but a server that tries to shut down most other EMC generation methods though, as it isn't particularly effective. The biggest advantage is that you can have it running while you are offline and while mining. It will never make you rich, but it does work..... Another variation, and much more lucrative in the short term, is the oil bucket farm. A bucket of oil is 2816 EMC, making this one worth working entirely manually if you have to. If you can pull 500 buckets of oil from one well you are looking at about a million EMC. Even if you can't use transposers a simple mob farm can be set up by having the mobs fall directly onto obsidian pipes. Never actually tried this myself, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Even on a server with absolutely 0 automation if you can use a transformation tablet you can build an absolutely massive sugar cane farm that you manually harvest and make tons of EMC. It is boring as heck, but it is still pretty time efficient. Especially if you just do it once when you log in and again right before you log out each day for a quick EMC boost. It beats the crap out of trying to find a good place to mine on busy server where everything near the main hub of activity is almost entirely mined out.
Sam6555 Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 I skimmed one of these messages, so forgive my ignorance if this has already been stated, but you could use mining turtles with a cobble gen as block breakers are disabled.

However, regarding your last sentence: If the entire central area is totally mined out, then that means people will probably also steal your sugar cane if you have a massive sugar cane farm in the central area... you could use mining turtles with a cobble gen as block breakers are disabled. That is very true. A transposer or filter can even pull items out of a turtle just like it was a chest, so it doesn't have to "turtle.drop()" items (assuming filters are allowed. Otherwise turtle just drops items onto an obsidian pipe)
DinosGoMoo Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 Thank you all for the ideas (even you gavjenks ). I'll definitely try some of these ideas, and it's enough to keep me full for now :D
