Launcher won't connect to minecraft.net

Operating System: Windows 7

Java Version: 1.7.0_07

Antivirus Program: McAfee

Description of Problem:

My launcher can't connect to the minecraft.net servers and only provides me with the option to launch Tekkit

Error Messages:

could not connect to minecraft.net

What do you mean it "only provides me with the option to launch Tekkit"?

I am very confused, do you mean it will only allow offline mode?

If that's the case, disable your AV.

When I say it only provides me with the tekkit option I mean that that is the only mod that the launcher will let me select to run in the drop menu and yes it only allows me to use offline mode and stated that it could not connect to minecraft.net and that the tumblr feed was down.

Try disabling your AV and look for any other fire walls.

I don't know what to tell you about Tekkit being the only modpack option though.

Actually it ended up that I had to run the program as an admin to allow access I guess but thanks for the help I appreciate it!

Didn't work... I could log in to minecraft.net just fine, but it says 'Can't connect to minecraft.net' and gives me the 'Play offline' option, and it says 'Oh noes! Our Tumblr feed is down!'

I've even (Gasp!) tried a cracked client! Normal Minecraft runs fine, but Tekkit won't ._.

i have a problem and i dont know how to post a question whenever i run the exe. it says downloading launchers 0/3 then it gets to 3/3 and a window pops up saying error unable to conect to se... ive tried everything i have minecraft the latest java and its not my firewall whats going on
