So a friend and myself have decided to take the leap into Tekkit, but the question is, is there a way to convert our old Vanilla Minecraft world into a Tekkit one?

Any Help would be appreciated.

Try copying over the world files from your old server to the tekkit folder. If they won't load then no it doesn't work :P

What version are you running the old server on? If it is higher then 1.1 then I am guessing it will not work, but the best way to check would be to just try it hehe.

If it's a 1.1 world, it should work just fine. However, be advised, that new ores will not be generated in chunks you have discovered so you'll have to set off on a new adventure to get things like tin, copper, etc.

Also note that newly-explored areas will be using a different terrain generator, so the borders between Vanilla and Technic chunks will probably look bad. Nothing terrible, just a lot of vertical cliff faces when you get near the border.

You can use a map editor to delete chunks you don't mind losing, which will cause new chunks with the new ores to be generated when you revisit the area.
