Tallghost Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Hi. I'm looking to start up a private server, but I've never really done anything mutiplayer with MC or Tekkit, so I figure I need to ask some questions. Question #1: Do I want to use Tekkit or Tekkit Lite? I'm not sure of what the difference is. I know that I'm not looking at a public server, just something for some friends and students, and that I'm not really looking to add a ton of mods (something that will allow property like Towny, and maybe MAYBE something that will give an economy, but I'm not sold on that yet.) And I'm doing this myself, not from a hosting service, so I will have to do all of the maintenance myself. Quote
lukeb28 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 If you want plugins you almost have to use tekkit. If your ok with bad plugin pains tekkit lite has more up to date mods. Quote
Tallghost Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 Well since I'm totally new to this, it sounds like what I want to do is go with Tekkit Lite. So I will abandon the idea of adding plugins and look forward to continued updates and possible changes that will allow me to more easily add plugins in the future (since the future is the place where I will have more experience as an OP as well.) lukeb28 Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 That is probably for the best if it is just for a few friends. If you ever want to go public you almost have to go tekkit classic. Quote
Vl4dim1r Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 If you ever want to go public you almost have to go tekkit classic. Why is this? Just because of plugin support? Is BukkitForge not enough to go on? Quote
theprolo Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Why is this? Just because of plugin support? Is BukkitForge not enough to go on? I think that most of the protection plugins don't work very well with BukkitForge. I'm not certain about this, though - perhaps it's just not recommended because the servers don't come with BukkitForge. Quote
aet2505 Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 BukkitForge is still a beta Mod as a result there are still some teething problems associated with it, because of this probably not recommended for a new user. Quote
