RANT ALERT:

At least there is some civilised people on THIS forum who may give constructive criticism, as the Minecraft Forums is full of trolls. And by trolls, I mean the under the bridge type, who hate everybody for nothing, and have make no attempt at doing anything but act obscene at even just a guy trying something new. I no longer have any intentions of even returning to the MC Forums, because they are just abusive for no reason. All I want are ideas and constructive criticism, and at least you folks are capable of reasoning and not going off like crazy people just because what I build isn't perfect/what was expected.

RANT OVER

So I am building a city that is vaguely resemblant of LA and a few other modern cities. I have not done much, but would like ideas so I can expand.

So this is Los Caseum City:

Any more ideas or advice would be grand.

Cheers.

Never been to america, so I can only give ideas based off movies.

How about a spaghetti crossroad?

You could make pathways going criss-cross to any destination. Lighthouse, harbour, another village etc etc

Looks good so far. :D

  • I'd suggest a few main avenues, very wide, with a median with trees and paved.
  • Along these streets have skyscrapers mostly made of glass, with a sprinkling of older stone buildings. I don't know if you're building with mods, but I think it's Tinkers Construct that adds these great sandstone bricks that are perfect for that sort of thing. At the focus point of your city, have a few very tall, very new buildings that are nearly as tall as the mountain.
  • A river or two could be cool, and in the affluent sections have a boardwalk or riverwalk.
  • Don't forget public transportation, Minecart subways or L's.

My suggestions are based on Chicago, which I visit quite often, while I have never been to L.A., but maybe you can use some of the ideas anyway.

Thanks for the feedback!

There is a beach nearby, ima build a boardwalk. I want to build a river resembling the L.A. river, so that's an important bit of town.

Also, can anyone see the trend in the naming of places?

I am working on a huge office building, and will post when I have finished. No idea what will be inside, or what it is for. I'm afraid my monitor is frazzled for now, but should be getting a replacement soon. I am now going to type up a list in MS word. A long list. Very long.

More suggestions anyone? :P

Don't threadjack. Nobody is going to help you if you derail somebody else's thread.

can u help me plz

Imagine this.

Some fellow forum-goers are having a nice conversation about building a city in Minecraft. Then, all of a sudden, a random person butts in and completely changes the subject, wanting help with a problem they wouldn't even have if they had bothered to read the mod list of the modpack they are playing before they started. Obviously, the original participants would be quite annoyed.

I'm just going to pretend that didn't happen. nothing to see here

More pics in OP.

Any more ideas? I'm British, and I'm confused as hell about what you american folks have in your cities.

I also have developed a concept for a lighthouse in my down town science lab which is the massive tower.

Quartz is too fancy for a black market.

Here in Chicago, there's a central district with rail terminals, tall modern buildings, and historic structures and areas. Outside of that, there's a generally older, run down residential neighborhoods consisting of grids of smaller brick homes with a park every few blocks, as well as dozens of rail yards and industrial districts. Outside of that, there's forest preserves, suburbs, O'Hare Intl, more rail yards, etc.

The criminal underworld of my city is rich, for pretty much the whole city is owned by a very rich mafia.

So the black market is very fancy, despite being in the sewers of town. The boss wants his patrons to feel comfortable in his market. Nothing is too fancy for the Caseum Syndicate.
