dwwojcik
Free hosting? Do it yourself. No, that takes up a minute amount of electricity and a sliver of bandwidth, so technically not free. ;) Edited February 28, 2014 by dwwojcik
Talonos
Not to mention the cost of the computer you run it on. That being said, you can often get a decent surplus at good prices by going to the "surplus sales" offered from time to time by educational facilities like universities. I got a small server for $120 that hosts five players reliably and has been going for two years now. It's way cheaper than paying $20 a month. dwwojcik
I am lucky enough to have a spare computer to run my private servers on. Its a 32 bit XP laptop that's probably 7 years old at this point, but it does the job!
Talonos
Yeah, you don't need much, especially if you're willing to wipe and install a hyper-small footprint OS like MineOS (or to a lesser extent windows before it got bloated. )
TechnicMania
I hijacked my old windows 98 Pentium 2 with an install of Linux. Then I throw on a tekkit server. 256Mb of RAM, 970Mhz core and it can hold about 5-7 players reliably.
