Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I couldn't find a technical support sub-forum.

Hello, my name is Tycell and I am having issues running my Tekkit minecraft server for my community.

Yesterday the server crashed and it took me a long while to fix it. Today its doing the same thing again. The only report I can see in the console is this;

"java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out"

Followed by the usual next few lines of text but no information about what has actually cased it to crash. According to the console the server is still running, but no one can see or join the server.

Yesterday, the first time this happened, after trying everything I could think of, even MC editing the world and re-uploading it, the only solution I could find was to Roll back the server to a previous backup, loosing some 10 hours of in game progress for the players.

Today the same thing has happened.

If I restart the server, it runs normally for approximately 10 seconds, then its crashes out. The TPS remains 18-20 all the time as if things are normal.

I have looked and looked. There are no instances of things being done in the world which are the same or even similar between the two crash instances. So it is my belief that the problem isn't directly being caused by the players.

Has anyone had anything similar to this happen? Does anyone have any ideas on steps I could try to fix the problem without having to re-load a backup world. ?

Thanks for any help.

moved this. I suggest you add the logs so someone can actually know what's happening

Error logs can be found when clicking the Cog-Wheel button on the top right corner on the launcher window.
If you can't open the launcher the logs can also be found inside %appdata% -> Roaming -> .technic -> logs

Paste the content on pastebin.com or paste.ubuntu.com and give the link.

No crash logs. No Forge logs. No server details (pack version, java, plugins, etc.). Makes it very hard to offer any assistance.

Apologies.

A pastebin of the last crash is here:   http://pastebin.com/P34C3Gda

We are running the latest version of tekkit. 1.8.e

The server is a Creeper Host Skelleton package server. 4GB RAM.

In one of my attempts to fix the server the first time I used MCEdit and deleted all mystcraft worlds as well as all Dimentional Door pocket Dimentions, still the problem persisted. Also at the time of crashes there were no people using portals or dimentional doors. Dont know if that will help. I can see in the log though that there are a lot of world leaks caused by them.

Anything else I can provide to help?

I believe I have found the problem.

I managed to get the server working but it goes down once one base in particular is visited. So I am in the process of removing that base and seeing if it fixes the issue.

Also I couldn't post a complete log as it was too big for pastebin. However everything above what I posted in that file is just the routine startup text for Tekkit 1.8.e.

If my next efforts dont solve the problem I will see about posting a complete crash log. :)

OPIS is a great mod which can tell you where the lag is coming from. To the tile. Very helpful. You need to download the MOD and MöbiusCore in order to use it on both the client and server. If you use Mapwriter, delete it from your client as OPIS is bundled with it. Very helpful and saved my server last week.

Hope it helps.

Thanks man. I already know about OPIS. I managed to fix the server. I still don't know what it was but I managed to localize the problem in the world then use MC Edit to delete a large area as smoothly as possible. Now there is just a large hole down to bedrock filled in with ocean. It doesn't look too bad as it was an island to begin with.

Thanks for the help.

It should be trivial to stand in that chunk and type "//chunk" followed by "//regen" assuming you are using MCPC+ and have WorldEdit installed. If you don't I suggest it.
