Hello, folks! When I started a new server with the 1.6.4 MC version of Tekkit (back with 1.2.3, I think, but now on 1.2.8d), we noticed that Quartz is VERY rare in the overworld. Has anyone else noticed this? Did something go haywire with my server setup? I merely extracted the server archive, updated server.properties and the whitelist and was off and running. No other modifications. So, there shouldn't be any goofiness introduced on my part.

I figured it would fix itself after a few Tekkit updates but it didn't. Even in newly generated chunks, there is very little quartz. Does anyone else see this as well? ...Thanks!   **edited to fix tag

It's somewhat rarer now than it has been in the past, but I wouldn't say it's as rare as diamonds are. I find you can still accumulate a fair amount of it after a while. I tend to end up with about a stack or two after several hours play. If you leave a laser drill running you end up with tonnes of it though. It's really for use with endgame content, so it should be pretty rare imo.

if we are talking certus quartz, then yeah. I have a city, being worked on by multiple friends on my server, besides myself. We have laser drills, uber pickaxes and dense ore ages, quarries, etc. tens of thousands of nether quartz,,some ingots,, hundreds of thousands of some other resources. And our certus quartz still numbers in the couple thousand.

really i have a quarries plus quarry (256x256) running in a single biome extreme hills age (for the emeralds) and i have never had an issue of "needing" more quartz, i could triple the size of my ME network on a whim and still not run out, the trick in my experience is to run everything you can with nether quartz and only use certus when you have no other option, it sucks for a bit but after the first 3 or so stacks your need of it dwindles compared to say the need for iron, which seems to be exponential when your teching up.

Thanks for the reality check, folks! I guess starting out my mining ops below y=15 left me with a far more negative impression. I started mining randomly at around y=28 and, although still rarer than it used to be, in my opinion, it is much more frequent than at y=15. Happy mining!
