Checks Launcher Version then shuts off?

Question

Posted

To whom it may concerns,

My current problem is that the Launcher starts, but then just disappears after it gets to the "Checking Launcher Version". I don't know if this relates, but Minecraft runs just fine.

The computer I'm using is an XP and 32 bit, has Java 7, and uses McAfee OAS, which is enabled.

EDIT:

Launcher/pack Version: 1.0.1.0

Operating System: 32

Version of Java: 7

Description of Problem: Launcher starts, but then just disappears after it gets to the "Checking Launcher Version"

Error Messages: N/A

I could use some help in resolving this issue. Thank you for taking your time and reading.

Sincerely,

I recommend:

- Posting an error log, per the required bug report format.

- Making sure you're using the 32-bit version of Java 7.

- Switching away from McAfee.

Dear Torezu,

Thank you for your help.

There was no error log, and if there was, how do I check it?

I am certain the 32-bit version of Java 7 is installed.

Unfortunately, this isn't my computer, so I cannot switch away from McAfee.

Once again, thank you for the help.

Sincerely,

Mythil

First off, I'd read the Common Problems and Solutions thread. Then, I'd read the Before you Post a Problem and the Mandatory Report Format thread to follow the bug report format. You fixed that, thankfully. Also, it would be a good idea to read the Global Rules before posting. For example, stop signing your threads. It's redundant. I'm not trying to be mean, but it's amazing how a little reading could save you (and everyone else here) a lot of time and frustration. Other people (who have more mod power than I do, which is to say any at all) on this board will be mean. It's a product of the aforementioned frustration.

To help with your problem(s): I suspect McAfee is killing the process because it thinks it's a virus, as it's doing folder overwrites and backups to get the mod pack to work. The only ways around that are disabling McAfee or adding an exception, something I don't know how to do as I don't run McAfee. Other solutions may present themselves in the Common Problems thread mentioned above, after you find the error log.

What? It works on my end.. (Although it hangs without internet and crashes after a while, and runs the .jar)

that's nice, but it doesn't help the OP's problem any. unless you want to mail them your computer or something.

You may be out of luck. Try the Jar, and try adding the launcher as an exception in mcaffee, but there's a good chance that it's going to continue blocking the launcher.
