Is it possible to create user defined modpacks? How?

Question

Ok, this relates somehow to a lot of other posts in the style of "OMG TECHNIC WHY U NO ADD TERRAFIRMACRAFT?" and similars.

I'm a kind of user that likes to try mod combinations, moddify mod versions, tweaking, finding small "duct tape" mods that connect things and all that kind of stuff. I must have a docen of batch files prepared to open minecrafts and technic launchers on different %AppData%. It works, but it really feels a little out of control.

This could be solved if we could create user defined mods. Not as something to redistribute, but for personal use. Is there any way to do it with the launcher right now, even if it's a little laborious? Someone has written somewhere how it can be done?

It won't be a giant list of every picayune pack that some chucklehead came up with. It will (as far as I've heard) be a way to have multiple vanilla installations all controlled by the launcher which you can mod. Basically MultiMC except 82 times better.

This is very close to what I was thinking about... say, is it technically possible to do it now "manually", by tinckering with the files in /launcher folder, or there's some kind of technical limitation? I donĀ“t know... if I duplicate /launcher/vanilla to /launcher/terrafirma and then add the line in modpacks.yml, there's something missing? should it work?
