  1. I hear you -- I've been struggling with the same (general) problem. I thought myself pretty handy at logic gates, but that was limited to and/or/xor/nor/etc.... other generally basic gates. Now that I've been introduced to things like an SR-Latch I'm realizing I've got a long way to go. And, like you, everything I find is crazily technical and not a whole lot of practical help (as far as I can tell). So if you find something useful, please post it back here!
  2. well I did a complete system overhaul and managed to implement a similar setup, so thanks for the pics. I wasn't sure what qualified as Set or Reset in the SR Latch, but trial and error worked just fine for that. However, I am using this setup with a magmatic array and so my magma crucible is linked in to the SR Latch. This is causing me problems when I want to independently trigger the crucible (for non-power-related magma generation), because I can't figure out how to create an OR gate based on (1) a lever and (2) the SR Gate. I have to imagine it's possible, I just suspect I don't understand RedNet or the PRC well enough to properly implement it. RedNet tips anyone? [EDIT: Never mind; figured out it was just tunnel vision. I was so sure I was messing up the RedNet that it never occurred to me that the liquiducts were full (thus preventing the crucible from engaging). Just using the Output from the first Channel as one of the inputs on the second was sufficient... I feel sheepish.]
  3. maybe it's a case of empty/not? Buckets can only be empty/not empty, redstone conduit can either be charged or not (edit: I mean, infused with redstone, whatever that's called)... maybe the Tranposer only recognizes that it's not empty any more?
  4. yep, that worked -- I feel silly now for having destroyed the first one; but I love how inexpensive that mistake turned out to be.
  5. can you pick up a linking book once it's been placed on a stand? maybe I did it wrong, but I seem to have destroyed mine.
  6. yeah, well, my son and brother gave them a try within hours of firing up the new Tekkit and immediately got lost. One could return, the other couldn't; then they got separated (I'm still not sure of the details) and I finally decided to teleport him back to base (since I control the server), but I'd never had to use /tpx before and I managed to screw that up too, killing him multiple times before finally figuring it out. By his description, I think he was in limbo for at least part of the time. Suffice it to say, after that fiasco, we're all a bit hesitant to touch Dimensional Doors again. :-D
  7. wow, thanks for the detailed description. I have been meaning to poke around at Mystcraft (I believe that's what you're referring to) but just hadn't gotten around to it. This makes me think I really am wasting my time if I don't!

  9. and I'd highly recommend this video -- RedNet stuff is sweet!
  10. and may I recommend steam engines, magmatic engines, or combustion engines as opposed to stirlings? Maybe I'm just bitter, but I had so many of those blow up on me because I got distracted and left them unattended. Steam and magmatic don't blow up (though magmatic will seize on you if they max out and can't distribute power -- smack them with a wrench), and combustion won't if you keep them cooled with water (haven't tried that yet, but that's my understanding). And all (I believe) produce more power than stirlings.
  11. excellent -- looking forward to trying this. Of course, I still need to get an assembly table operational; but this is my first project as soon as that's done. Thanks!
  12. I still don't get gates, so I'd love to see pics!
  13. I've blown up several Stirling Engines before I finally just gave up on them and switched to solely magmatics; don't Stirling Engines qualify as bread-and-butter? Not complaining, just curious if I'm missing something important; because, to date, the only engines I feel like I understand (and won't do me more harm than good) are magmatics.
