I still don't get gates, so I'd love to see pics!

I've blown up several Stirling Engines before I finally just gave up on them and switched to solely magmatics; don't Stirling Engines qualify as bread-and-butter? Not complaining, just curious if I'm missing something important; because, to date, the only engines I feel like I understand (and won't do me more harm than good) are magmatics.
