  1. Meh, tekkit is fucked anyways, Theres no need for tekkit based guides Thanks dumbo mojang for making username changes in 1.8 >.>
  2. Guys just to let you know this is all based on my own experience and not evidence. I should not need evidence etc. Its from my own experience as a server/website/database/host owner.
  3. I fully understand what you are saying. XP Is very insecure and not good for large servers. But is a great OS in other ways (not for servers) But I guess running a small private server for some friends is good on XP.
  4. Okeeee Helloooo again. Now I have some points to make on software. The OS of a server will not truelly effect how the minecraft server runs since it is actually on the JVM, Although Linux uses less resources so if you wish to use linux so you have more free resources fine, Although you may have to install the Multicraft Control Panel onto your dedi/vm for ease of use, or you could just use screen. For other reasons i'd reccomend windows server 2012, Now I know alot of people be hatin' on this OS, Its alot faster then home OSs by microsoft may I just say, Yes it takes up 3-4GB of ram from your system, Its also easier to use without the need of screen (windows doesnt have screen) or multicraft.. Although as always, everything has its downfalls.. Linux: Reasons to like linux: It's open source It uses less resources It's free Is something breaks you can fix it yourself Reasons to dislike linux: As always, Linux likes to make the easier tasks in life difficult, its by far alot less user friendly. Windows Server ****: Reason to like W.S****: Its more user friendly You can have more control over your dedi, using disk optimizers which you cannot use if you are on Linux (Either that, but im a noob to Linux and aint very good with commands, as far as I know you can just use a command C:) Reasons to dislike W.S****: It's Not open source. It uses alot more resources (Mostly RAM).. It costs alot of money, depending on your version, (Lol, just use microsoft tool Cx) If something is broken you have to wait for limpdicks at microsoft to fix it. (Get it? Microsoft? Limpdicks? XD) But you know, it really comes down to somethings here: Economy, Linux Less resources, Linux Have alot of money and resources? Get windows <:3 Also. Covering RAMDisk which a server I know of use, It can be fast in certain ways, although is very difficult to use and can be very annoying If you want more RAM, Then go here: www.ovh.ie and buy a dedicated server. Dont like OVH? Ah well, Theres always www.colocrossing.com Errr theres phoenixNAP secured servers.... if you HAVE to D: (There good and know quite a bit about mc, but have excessive costs xP) Anyways. Your choice of OS, Its really self choice, But please, I dont know everything, and we all learn off of eachother, am I right? So if I missed something out or got something wrong, comment bellow and ill add it Joseph @ http://emeraldtekkit.pw ECNetworks LTD.
  5. @dwwojcik Windows XP is an excellent Operating System, 64 or 32 bit, 1GB of ram and a 2.3GHz processor is MORE then enough to cope with 4 players, therefore I would highly doubt your server would lag anyways. On tekkit, depending on the version ofc, if its tekkit classic (My best area) Then I'd say you can take upto 10 players (1GB of ram can take 24 - But your processor isnt the best) depending on your network of course. For 1 players i'd reccomend, for them to have the best experience go to www.speedtest.net and record your upload speed, for 4 players (Including yourself) I would reccomend about 5MB/s upload speed But as I say again, Windows XP is a very fast OS that doesnt use to many resources, It's an excellent OS for minecraft servers, Windows Server 2008 would be better, But sadly I could not get emeraldcraft working on that OS, (Or any tekkit server infact, FML didnt like the OS, IDK why :/) However, In terms of hardware aint my best area anyways, Software is indeed a good place for me
  6. Also people reffer to OVH as crap. Well heres some points on it: Dedicated Server Speed: Excellent: 5 stars Support: Extremely Poor: 0 Stars If you want a server, But need support go to a minecraft hosting company like MineOcity (tekkithost) or FragNet. Otherwise if you dont need support and your buying a dedicated server - The host should not have a HUGE effect (other then graphical panel) on the server itself.
  7. Also, Your examples are based on webservers, which are much, MUCH less server intensive then minecraft. Joseph.
  8. I do understand ECC Is not a requirement. Although it does help with server stability. And no, The difference between HDDs and SSDs is not as big as you think. EC Ran just as well on either. No need to go SSDs for me so I am just sharing my knowledge. I have also come to find Windows as being more secure then Linux, and Multicraft does not run as well on windows in a hosts perspective (Automated mods installation etc). MHz is even used by microsoft, To commonly describe the speed of the RAM. I know what im talking about bro And yes I do understand very well about the MHz Myth, And was just using it for User-Friendliness (Something Linux isnt very good at either) And I do understand RAM should be described in GB/s just the same as Disk space. Joseph.
  9. Add me on skype for the information on how to improve your server performance: Jominer247.
  10. I know the fix, go into your world, then into your 'Players' folder and your {USERNAME}.dat, this will show up as ur MC username, for example, mine would look like jominer247.dat, go ahead and delete that, it's bugged. This means you will start on your server as a new player again with an emptied inventory etc, but there is no other way around it.
