To be sure we're having the same problem, open a world/server and look for leaves. You should see a slight white outline. If that's the case,try restarting the launcher. It solved that problem for me.

It would seem that Tekkit is looking in my minecraft folder for its files (All required mods are in the mods folder). Is there a choose directory option that I overlooked earlier? *EDIT 2* I found a thread posted shortly after this one. Redownloading the launcher fixed my problem.

I was trying to install it myself, and am willing to compromise a mod to make it compatible. Any idea which mod is causing the issue?

Try port forwarding.

The mod is called Equivelant Exchange for a reason. Yes some things are overpowered, but you can't just make red matter from nothing. Transmutation changes items into energy that you use to get other things. Diamonds require 8,192 energy (EMC). That can't come from nowhere. Now, using a buildcraft quarry to mine massive amounts of cobblestone, then turning it into diamonds is overpowered. It's not just EE that's overpowered, it's kinda the whole pack. Everything working with everything results in massive amounts of everything. If you are worried about overpowered stuff, you might as well not use tekkit.
