  1. Yo, I'm in a creative building war - anything goes, including WorldEdit/MCE. I'm thinking I want to bust out of Minecraft and start using Blender 3D to model my things. I know there are ways to export from Minecraft to Blender, but I don't know of any up to date tools to go vice versa. Does anyone know of any?
  2. I finally got around to starting to mod. I've followed along in a few Forge tutorials but I'm impatient. I've also started really hating Eclipse, so tonight I'm going to take myself back to Netbeans. In the mean time, I think it'd really speed me along if a modder was willing to send me the source to a block that listened for a redstone signal and fired off an empty method in response. It'd be awesome if said modder was willing to work with me a bit beyond this, but I think this is enough to get me started.
  3. I have yet to play with the advanced wooden pipes. I'm still having trouble with it using filters (it appears to just devour enchanted books rather than ejecting them), so I'm going to try switching. For the mobs: You'll want a tier 5 soul shard in a soul cage. Edit: I'm running a customized modpack that is sort of Tekkit, sort of Mindcrack, but not really either one anymore. Which mod has advanced wooden pipes in it?
  4. I decided I was tired of having to re-enchant equipment after it broke - throwing out pickaxe after pickaxe after diamond pickaxe as if they were old tin cans as I looked for the perfect enchantment. So it struck me to use Minefactory Reloaded's auto enchanter to make a book enchanting factory. Finding enough mobs to make the spawner took a few days, but I made my mob farm, got my tanks set up, ran BC2 power and liquiducts out to a remote wing of my castle, and did the obvious - I got a few chests and a few filters. I stuck a filter on the chest pulling out unenchanted books, then I strapped another filter onto the bottom of my Minefactory reloaded auto-enchanter, started a timer at 300 seconds, and went off to get dinner. Lo and behold, the blank filter attached to the enchanter will not remove the enchanted book from the auto enchanter but instead insists on pulling out the unenchanted books and leaving the enchanted book within the auto enchanter. On further examination, a BC2 engine and a wooden pipe will not pull enchanted books out of the auto-enchanter, either. What do I need to do to get this to work/what am I doing wrong?
  5. Well, what I'd done for my customized modpack was take the entire mindcrack mod, bludgeon it so that it would download, update, and run through the Technic Launcher, and I had almost gotten that to work well enough that I could add everything in Tekkit Lite that wasn't currently in the Mindcrack pack. . . Then Redpower 2 messed up. What I had was vanilla Minecrack modified so that it was loading through the Technic launcher. Without RP2, my terribly evil plan was working. With it, I hit an error. So I've switched launchers for the time being and have done a slightly less convenient way of handing a modpack out. It'd be epic (hilarious) if the Technic launcher had the ability to handle FTB modpacks though. I think most people who play these modpacks understand the 'moar mods, moar ways to do cool things, moar is better' mindset. However, because of the animosity between the modpacks I figured loading a FTB pack into the Technic Launcher was going to be controversial enough to piss off both groups. However, I'm still game to try to get my 'Feed The Tekkit Beast' Frankenpack working through the Technic launcher...and post up step by step exactly how I did it but only if I can get help with the inevitable errors I have.
  6. I found it and used it.Suffice it to say there have been quite a few hours spent troubleshooting since this post. I ended up giving up because the block ID issue wasn't the real issue but it was the only error message I was getting.
  7. The mod conflict wasn't obvious. I ended up removing every dependency on RP2, and adding things back. At some point I started having random errors again. I have given up on my nefarious plan to start to combine two competing modpacks using the Tekkit launcher as a private modpack.
  8. Hello, I'm working on a custom modpack based off of Tekkit Lite. I'm having crashes on startup that look like block conflicts with Redpower 2. It's completely non-sensical. When I try to remove Redpower 2 from the mods directory so I can get into the game and get a NEI printout of everything, FML gives an error: "Forge Mod Loader has found a problem with your minecraft installation. The mods and versions listed below could not be found RedPowerLogic: any" (this changes depending on what part of redpower I delete) What do I need to do?
  9. Just as the title says. Might as well toss Optifine in there too. The entire point of Tekkit is going nuts, isn't it? I recently had to take Tekkit lite and make my own custom fork with an updated dimensional anchors mod because dimensional anchors were causing server issues. I'm realizing how brilliantly easy it is to add mods. I'm in an excessive mood lately and think it would be a great deal of fun if my players signed off one night feeling safe and secure in their fortified houses and signed on the next to find the entire world wanted to and was able to smash into their place and kill them. With that being said, I don't want to reinvent the wheel. I'm fairly certain other people have added at least a few of these mods, so if someone's already set up and vetted block+item IDs or knows of the gotchas involved here, please share your experiences. Download links for what I'm considering are: Millenaire Forestry Mo'Creatures Railcraft Optifine Discussions of drama re:these mods require you to insert alternating links to bash.org quotes and pictures of bacon into every word of your post so that I have reason to give a damn. For example, this sentence is interesting. Failure to properly baconate posts about drama is unacceptable. With that said, what're the rules regarding sharing configurations and block IDs for these mods so that they play well with each other?
  10. Pardon my derp. I realized earlier today I should provide a link to the modpack. It's Tekkit Lite with dimensional anchors updated due to world corruption issues with the earlier version, https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1220452/troubleshootingmodpack.zip
  11. Launcher Version: 1.1.2.0 Operating System: Multiple Java Version: Multiple Antivirus Program: Multiple Description of Problem: Solution: I did something stupid and included the launcher.properties file in my modpack. Everything was behaving as it should have. Do NOT include a launcher.properties file with your modpack! Using Custom Pack 1 (blue smiling box icon) as the modpack, when I or my players set a custom zip location, the custom zip will download, extract, and things will play normally. However, after exiting the game, the next time any of us try to play, the custom pack appears to reset itself. Players are forced to put the custom zip location in again, manually, and redownload the mod before they can play again. Else they end up with a vanilla Minecraft install and errors about the Forge Mod Loader when they try to join my server. Failing to specify the Custom ZIP path every time the launcher launches results in the vanilla files being downloaded (I think, this is what it looks like). However, preferences and modpacks are not erased. This has happened with multiple users including myself. I can't speak for all of my users, but I'm running Windows 7 x64 with the latest version of Java and Comodo Internet Security. If this is not a bug, what do I/my users need to do to keep the custom ZIP location set persistently? Edit: Another user is reporting this same issue, I'm linking to his thread here in case one or the other of us gets a solution/for the benefit of future Googlers: http://forums.technicpack.net/threads/i-need-custom-modpack-assistance-please.37649/ Error Messages: Error Log:
  12. Well damn. He updated again. Lucky I haven't started yet. (Scholarship is done. Time to start applying. I have another 8-10 essays to do before November 15th on top of the course of normal schoolwork which includes more essays. I am so tired. But I'm halfway through my application essay clusterf***.)
  13. Putting this on pause until after the 23rd. I'm applying for a major scholarship that is devouring huge chunks of my time, as well as attempting to get in to a number of universities on the top 10 list for computer science degrees. I thought I had until the 28th. No such luck. The good news is that I had two Java programming assignments, both were done within 90 minutes of starting. I still have whatever the heck it is I had. Hah. Bad news is we're not going to get to multi-threading because of curriculum changes, which makes me sad. :'( Any suggestions on mods updated for 1.3.2 that I can bank on their not having a lot change? I might be able to spare 15-20 minutes every day or so to start getting in to this.
  14. You might try this, http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Programs_and_editors/Mapping#Map_Generators as a starting off point. I remember my little brother did a lot of custom map generation via level.dat modification. My memory may be mistaken as it was years ago (...Minecraft is YEARS old? How did that happen!?)
  15. Alright. The class that devoured all of my time is over. I have another 8 week class that starts up this Sunday. I'm thinking I'll get my IDE set up to do stuff tomorrow. I have it stuck in my head to do what jakj said, and make a gun. I'm thinking I'll try to get it to fire in bursts of three before moving on to screwing around with minecarts.
  16. This thread's still valid to me. He's actually only about 7 days too early - I have a final and then a class advertising "6 hours a week" of time in, rather than "8 hours a day". This thread is in my patent pending mess-of-tabs-containing-things-to-do. I figured rather than talk about talking about modding I'd just go quiet until I could talk about modding. If there was an expiration timer on this thread before bumping it would have gotten me chewed out, I'm glad he bumped it! Meat shields are awesome! :D
  17. One of the unspoken rules about programmers and engineers is that they're negatively charged dicks, as a rule. Some of them acknowledge this and end up working as a team and somehow not axe murdering each other - which results in awesome things like Tekkit - others spend their time dry humping their "does not play well with others" badges. Though by the sound of it, jakj spent some of his time dry humping Flowerchild's mind. My gears are turning on (after I mess with Balkon's as suggested) theoretical ways to save a long Railcraft route's traversal time and gradually dim a player's screen as they get moving, pause a bit, then teleport them and un-dim their screen. I'm getting a few ideas, but the issue I'm mentally running in to is detecting different routes. I think the easiest way to do it would be to have a player ride a 'Milestone cart' that measured the route in practice, then use 'Teleport Carts' to do the actual warping. I don't think that - after figuring out what the route actually is - setting listeners for changes to the track in certain blocks would be hard - it's detecting when something like a crossroads has been switched and using that path instead that's not clicking. I probably need to diagram this. I also probably need to get back to homework before my instructor gets out the whomping mallet again. Has this been done?
  18. Right now I have had a surprise from a class that I expected to be dull and boring. It's dull, boring, lethargic, but similar to a morbidly obese elephant when it rolls over it makes the boat list dangerously to wrong side...so I'm unable to even consider jumping in to any project what-so-ever and have not even been through the stickies yet. That said, if it's just having block conflicts, isn't that a case of changing block IDs to unused ones? Go ahead and link to his work.
  19. It sounds like the hard part on Battlegear might be the drama. Playing around with Balkon's sounds interesting, and I suppose I should bite off pieces I can reasonably chew. Plus, one of the things lacking in Tekkit are interesting ways to kill other players...I mean, uh, I'm a purely benevolent server operator. Hmm.That gives me ideas for slightly more challenging things like fully automatic stuff based off of Balkon's (if possible), and a laser pistol based off of IC2 that penetrates through blocks without breaking them.
  20. (While I'm back here checking on my thread, I might as well go about reserving this spot for a list of abandoned and/or open source projects for myself and other modders to tinker around in.)
  21. I have a problem. I'm a coder, but I'm a horrible self starter and I don't do well without gratification - usually prefixed with 'instant'! So, I've wasted about a month intending to do something relevant to Tekkit, waiting for my java class to start, lo and behold it starts, I'm 4 weeks in, and having trouble not skipping class because the first four weeks are a rehash of what I learned in 2 days writing a Bukkit plugin that spawned a creeper behind a player of my choosing. This class is boring and slow! At this point, I want to do something more useful, something educational, something challenging, and most importantly something I can spring on the players on my server with little to no warning (maybe not so much). I figured that tinkering with a mod that's already made would be a fast way to learn. What all's out there, unmaintained and open source, that's relevant to Tekkit (or that should be in Technic/Tekkit)?
  22. So, I came through here using the Forum search feature. This appears to be a related thread: http://forums.technicpack.net/threads/server-connection-issues.19925/ I found an off-site discussion of this issue here: http://www.gamingmasters.org/threads/tekkit-crashes.6614/ That last link is the best information I've found on this so far. I didn't have this issue until 3.1.2 either. I went and relaxed all of my redpower 2 timers to no faster than 0.75, some were down at .2. I also turned off all BC2 engines but didn't remove all of my pipes. I also deleted a TON of redstone engines using worldedit to try to fix it. I've also had my players turn off any texture packs they were using. The server is hosted on a core 2 duo that runs at 2.93 GHZ on Server 2008 R2 with 5 gigs of RAM. None of that's worked. I have an upload speed that tests at 4.0 MBPS/512 kilobytes/second sustained, which should be more than enough to keep one other player online. You could try all of my fixes and the fixes mentioned in the other threads, maybe one of them will work for you.
  23. Just my 2 cents, as I'm getting all of the plugins set up to go public with my server, one of my favorite plugins back in March/April when I last had a public server, was Backup, http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/backup/ , it tends to need about a gig of RAM for itself or it'll crash your server (maybe that was Minebackup and that's why I prefer this over Minebackup), but, it's a great way to prevent yourself from screwing over your server entirely and not being able to roll back, because it just zips up copies of your entire server directory and you can have it save a number of them. I use it especially when I'm testing out new plugins since it saves your plugins directory as well. Edit: I'm going to retract my recommendation for this plugin as it seems to be causing crashing. I suspect it's crashing when it zips folders up so I'm trying it without the zip functionality.
  24. Hello, I went in to mod_EE.props and set machineFactor=1 from =16. This does not seem to have changed how fast energy condensers, relays, and collectors were working. I'm a bit at a loss on what to do next. What do I need to do to slow EE machines down? I'd like to avoid turning them off entirely, because I want them to be able to generate building materials so that more creative players can use them (at great expense).
  25. Is anyone willing to share their config files for all of this publicly? I keep screwing mine up because I inevitably miss something and I have the feeling that the next version of Tekkit is right around the corner, so aggravating my carpal tunnel to do it all myself again sounds really excruciating.
