  2. perhaps I am simply extrapolating too far based on personal experience. my elementalist didn't really feel "weak" at low levels. I guess that is not really what I'm trying to say, but I can't really put my finger on a good way to express what it is I'm actually trying to get across. I guess a better way to put it would be that I didn't feel like my character really "came together" or "came into his own" until teen levels. the early levels felt far less enjoyable than the later ones. and jakj, I don't think anyone really expected that. I know I didn't. however, that doesn't mean you can't dislike parts of it
  3. this was I think the biggest failing of the beta weekend. the events and gameplay didn't really start getting good until you were in the teens. I have no idea who decided that the first 10-12 levels would be awesome if your character was impossibly weak and underpowered, but they were stupid. once you start getting trait points and buy access to spending them (huge gripe of mine, btw. 10 silver is still a lot at level 11) things get much better and the events at that level start getting far more interesting and involved. I really hope they fix the very early levels over the course of beta because I can totally see them losing plenty of people just like hoho here even though the rest of the game might be stellar.
  4. this isn't how you go about posting bug reports. this also isn't how you go about posting problems, and this isn't the board you would do that in anyway. I see that you were previously probated, I guess you didn't learn anything from the experience?
  5. PMing me won't get it changed any more than complaining on the forums, GuitarSarlack~420~.
  6. what have we learned today, OP? we've learned that if you can do something easily yourself, it's probably better to do so instead of asking the admins to do it for you. because the admins are druggie starwars fans.
  7. that would be the one and only kakermix.
  8. true, but in this case it's documentable just how terrible most of the other staff are. either way, I was more confirming the fact that most "IT people" know next to nothing, or at least seem to than anything else. a more direct anecdote comes from my personal experience as a call center tech support jockey for a large ISP. the next batch of hires after my group included a person who ended up being seated next to me. she was there because she had been laid off from her teaching job and had an information technology degree of some kind (can't remember specifically). she readily admitted to knowing nothing because she had other people do all her homework throughout college. I'm not making this up. I had to teach her how to troubleshoot from the ground up, despite that being the goal of the training she went through after being hired.
  9. at least 75% of all "IT Professionals" are about as smart as a box of rocks. funny you mention hospitals, because my brother (who is in the same field) does IT work for a hospital around here. there have been instances of people trying to verify a dead monitor by connecting to the computer via remote desktop. I'm not even making that up, unfortunately. it's an absolute disaster and almost all the people there except for him are idiots who can't actually do their job.
  10. but it wouldn't have been nearly as memorable. moving this topic, but next time look before you post or I'm just gonna mock you, lock the topic, and laugh.
  11. I would not say it's better than five bucks spent on coffee. at least coffee is a tangible thing and you can drink it for nourishment, however minor. however, your point about relative value is well taken.
  12. I doubt they will move to a sub model. the thing to realize is that the cash shop currency(gems) can be sold for in-game gold. that means people will buy the gems even if there's nothing they want to buy in the shop with them, just to sell them for gold. on top of that, they're basically doing a F2P MMO with an initial buy in. people will waste untold amounts of dollars on xp/magic find boosters. mark my words.
  13. abandon hope, all ye who enter here. I should note that if you are like hoho there, it is indeed nicer. at least I imagine it would be. I do more desktop support than programming, which means I have to translate idiot to english constantly. it can be depressing.
  14. my avatar is always relevant to pretty much every post I make. that is pretty much what I'm doing the entire time I'm on the internet. can you tell I work in IT?
  15. quick update, this guy has now made 3 accounts and counting to spam the forum with stuff like this. you're not clever, guy.

    KAKERMIX

well, feel free to get bent. again.
  17. I wouldn't liken mods/admins to gods. we're more the police/rulers. admins make the rules, mods enforce them. it's just that simple
  18. stellar post, if I do say so myself edit: just saw that you spammed similar crap in about 4 other places. I feel even better about perma-banning you now than I did about 2 minutes ago. also, I removed the other posts. get bent.
  19. completion tracking: it's amount explored, IIRC. there's also a tracking for skill point challenges which are static and always available as far as I know. the stuff that is changing is the dynamic events and such, which is not tracked scaling: there are only a few events that have a minimum number of players, and these are large world bosses that only spawn after an event chain is pushed all the way down a given path. all the rest scale down to 1 player, and if no one is in a zone the bosses don't spawn. additionally, because of level scaling there will be incentive for high level players to come back to even low level zones when a big event or boss is up, because they still get high level loot from it.
  20. welp, I read the whole post.
  21. the directory thing is not documented really, you're right. I only know about it because I saw the launcher dev, who's name I can't remember well enough to spell correctly (sorry, laser blasting mutated cow guy!), mention it in a thread once.
  22. I am super pumped for GW2. I will so be there. I plan on rolling mesmer both for the BWE and launch.
  23. no idea, but now your new account is banned too. forever this time.
  24. there is, actually. you will need to make a very short (2 line) batch file. the trick is to create a folder called "rtemp" in the .techniclauncher folder before running the .jar with whatever java args you want. something like: mkdir %appdata%\.techniclauncher\rtemp java [insert args here] -jar %appdata%\.techniclauncher\technic-launcher.jar
