Problems with OSX?

Question

Posted

Bear with me here I'm really not that good with this kind of stuff...

I'm using a macbook running osx and whenever I try to run the technic launcher on it it simply says "The java jar file technic launcher could not be launched" any idea what could be causing this? I got the mod to run on a PC fine but I really need it to work on my mac if I'm to get any use out of it :(

Ps here is the logs when I try to launch it:

Wait, there are people who still have Java 1.4.2 installed? You need to delete that shit and install Java 7.

Alright, I already know I'm gonna sound retarded, but HOW.

I've spent hours searching, talking with people, etc. We can't get Java to update!

It's because you're using Leopard.

For some reason, Apple decided it would be a good idea to only release Java 7 for Lion.

Pshhh, does Apple ever have good ideas? Or at least ones that make sense? *lets go slap a camera on it and a slightly better processor and call it a new product that can sell for $600 apiece!*

Well people still bought them and apple made millions so I guess it was a good idea.

I'm proud to say then that I have never personally bought a Apple product. (Excluding my *very old* iPod Touch which was a gift, and you can't turn a present down can you?)

Then you must have a lot of anti virus software. I see this flip side of this because I never bought a microsoft product except an xbox, office, and some games. All my computers have been apple.

Mostly because Steve Jobs had a way with marketing. The man could shit in a box, write iPood on it with a Sharpie, and put it on a shelf, and people would kill each other trying to pay $300 for it.

^^This.

Steve Jobs was not an inventor or a computer genius, he could just sell anything to anyone.

Reminds me of the guy who won a bet by making a successful business out of putting trash from the streets of New York in plastic bags and selling them to people.

So, it is possible to use technic launcher on my mac, or have I to stay on my weak laptop with Linux ?

If updating your java is the actual reason behind the issue, all you would need to do is buy a more recent version of OS X.

Unless your Mac can't run one of them or something.

Reminds me of the guy who won a bet by making a successful business out of putting trash from the streets of New York in plastic bags and selling them to people.

And that reminds me of the joke about the apple seller:

And rich old businessman is talking to a potential new investor. The investor is interested in the origins of the company, and asks the old man how he got his start.

"Well," says the old man, "it was in the middle of the Great Depression, and all I had to my name was the clothes I wore. I had managed to find an apple, and I spent a couple of hours polishing it. Then, I sold it for ten cents."

"Using those ten cents, I bought, polished, and sold two more apples for ten cents each. So now I had 20 cents. I continued to do this for a few weeks, and soon began to branch out into other items as well. I was good with my hands, so if I found something that was broken, I would try to turn my hand to fixing it. If I could, I sold that too. After a while, I had managed to accumulate about one hundred dollars."

The investor is impressed. He exclaims: "That's amazing! So you built up this massive empire from a start living on the streets selling apples?"

"I never said that, did I?", says the old man. "A little while after I had made my first hundred, a relative died and left me everything they owned."

I've been getting this error after the Mojang screen.

Any ideas. I've have dug through the forums and couldn't see anything like it. Running OSX 10.6.8. I looked into updating java, but I too can find nothing for mac. Technic works fine. Server is up and running...just can't get the loader to open Tekkit.

.

So, how did you do without Java 7 ?

Yes, is this possible? This thread is the only information I can find about this issue. Minecraft runs fine on my laptop (OSX 10.5.8 Leopard) but the Technic JAR doesn't work at all ("...could not be launched. Please check the console for possible error messages").

When I installed the developer preview of Java 7, Minecraft would no longer run. When I downgraded back to JavaForMacOSX10.5Update4 and JavaForMacOSX10.5Update10 Minecraft would run again.

Is it possible to run the Technic Launcher on Snow Leopard? I would really prefer not to switch to Lion.

Thank you.
