A few noob questions I have

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a Tekkit server which got very popular very fast, I had never hosted a Tekkit server on this scale before and I did not know what to do and all that, since then (and after spending hours on the Tekkit forums) I have learnt a lot about fixes and patches and all kinds of stuff. But I still have many questions and instead of creating lots of threads that would piss everyone off I decided to make one thread to have all my questions in :3 OK lets get straight into it.

1. Dynamite overrides WorldGuard - Are PvP arena is protected by WorldGaurd but I allowed PvP in the protection, I also disabled TNT in the region as well but people can still use dynamite to blow up the lamps, they can't seem to blow up anything else though, the floor is made of Basalt Cobble Brick things and Lamps, the walls is made of Reinforced glass and the roof is made of basalt cobble brick thing as well.

It was because I OP'ed [industrialCraft]

2. What are the main causes of lag on a Tekkit server? Pretty straight forward.

"the biggest causes of lag are large quantities of moving items, particularly those in pipe systems but also tube structures, and large explosions. There are plugins like NoLagg that will prevent most of the item-drop lag, though. " - Torezu

3. Why do a lot of servers delete there map every month or so? Pretty straight forward.

4. I use a jobs plugin called "Jobs" and it spams my console with errors like "Could no pass block break event to Jobs" or something like that and also my older players with RedMatter stuff seem to gain millions from it

Here is my "jobconfig" http://pastebin.com/7W7fajU1

5. Players can bypass Faction protection - Not sure how they can do this but I know it is happening, I think there was mention of TNT cannons as well. I have banned all the rings that effect blocks, I have also banned mining lasers and "EE TNT"

6. Is there a plugin that stops PvP for new players for a certain amount of time?Found a plugin called PvPtimer

7. Is there anything I need from PortCentral?

8. My server is getting really bad lag, we have 10 gigs of ram and we are running at 3 - 8 TPS!!

3. Because in this time, most resources in the zone near the spawn have been harvested, and expanding a servers map too far from the spawn creates intense lag. Making a new map is the easiest solution.

Never ran a server, so I really couldn't help you with the others.

However, for 8, you do seem to have more plugins than the average server, as I said, I never ran a server, so I don't know if this could affect the performance, but what do you get if you try running without any plugins, for example?

you should get yourself a ssd for your server, and ban chunkloaders to prevent lagg, multiverse also causes a shitload of lagg

Ok thanks for helping you two!

I looked in to Solid State drives but I am not great with all the stuff inside computers so that will have to wait.
