Question

Launcher/pack Version: Tekkit 2.1.1

Operating System: Linux

Version of Java: 7 (this isn't the issue)

Description of Problem: After a smoth run all day I go to bed and come back to a offline server... Apparently some kids been toying around with computercraft and tried to make a "chat" :S

Error Messages: The only real error message in the log file was the following: "2012-03-08 20:50:02 [iNFO] ComputerCraft: Warning! Failed to abort a Computer. Dangling lua thread could cause errors."

I wasn't the one bringing the server back online, but apparently they weren't able to do so before rolling back the server. Which makes me believe some bad coding was made by our users. Therefore I wan't to ask if there is a easy way to turn of computercraft? Or maybe restrict it to only trusted people?

you should be able to turn it off in the modloader.cfg file on the server, I believe. I'm not sure what that will do to any existing computers though.

I must admit I haven't tried doing that in the new 2.1.1. But it didn't work the last couple of times I tried that in 2.1

You can just delete the mods out yourself then.

I could be totally wrong on this but, as long as you've disabled it server-side, I don't think the users will need to change anything.

But then all our users have to do the same right? Which sucks.

Uhm possibly. Maybe not. They might be able to see the computer stuff, but not use it?

if its disabled serverside, the clients will see comptuercraft stuff in crafting windows and NEI, but will not be able to use any of it or craft it while on that server.

Well I just tried to shut off computercraft by setting its value in the modload config to "off", since the server needed a quick restart anyway... But then it wouldn't start back up.

I didn't dare to start deleting stuff since people were hammering the join button to get back online. But can someone confirm the exact files I need to delete, since I can't reproduce the error on my local host because I don't have a linux here.

if you want to remove CC completely, delete the "computercraft" directory in the server's mods directory. you mentioned linux so I assume the server's running on that. I don't know the default path for an MC server on linux, but I assume you do so the directory you want would be at: \path\to\server\mods\computercraft

delete that and it should be completely removed. you MAY have to edit your world to remove and computercraft blocks. alternatively, you could simply find the offending computer's ID and delete its programs, notably startup.lua. after which you should tell the user who exploded the server to test his crap in single player before he ruins your server with his terrible attempts at coding.

Okay I did this and the server started up just fine. I have asked the players to get rid of the blocks as they see them, since the map size is 650mb by now, and to download and upload it would take half a day :P I hope letting the blocks sit there won't effect the server capacity?
