andrewdonshik Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Ok, first things first, I am not attempting to start a flame war. With that out of the way, I'll get started. When I first got into Tekkit/Technic, I was playing on a no-EE server called Jono20201, I think. This server had votifier, and it would give 2 diamonds for every vote. This was when the minestatus promotion was in effect. Every day, you would get 4 diamonds from MineStatus and 2 diamonds from TekkitServerList. If you worked in a partnership, or had alt accounts, this could lead to huge gain in resources, which was the reason EE was disabled in the first place. If the server was attempting to have a relatively stable economy, this ruined it. This same thing applies to any servers that give rare/large rewards for voting and have either an economy or EE disabled. I feel that this may drive people who are looking for balanced gameplay away because, as shown, Votifier is as bad as EE. Quote
Watchful11 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 This isn't really a valid comparison. EE is a mod. It is designed to be balanced(even though it isn't) and resources collected in game(though through controversial means) Votifier is a plugin. It is designed to reward people for out of game actions. Past that huge gulf. It actually isn't as bad as EE. EE allows exponential resource growth. The setup you described is linear resource growth. Quote

Use the diamonds to get quarries and UU. Boom. Exponential growth. Also, it is linear, but largely so. Edit: Also, free stuff is free stuff. Quote
Adlersch Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 These two can't really be compared, given that one is a commonly used and loved mod, and one is a server plugin. That's literally comparing apples to oranges - not to mention that literally every newbie can vote and get a couple diamonds to defend themselves with (A sword at the least), while the DM, RM, and Gem stuff is very late-game (Although I would argue that if someone makes it to gem armor, they deserve it), and difficult to defend against. Difficult, not impossible, I know. But difficult. Sure, those diamonds could be used for quarries and whatnot - after several days. I'd just use those diamonds for self-defense and to speed up my early-game development so I can get that quarry in the first day. Not against you here, but these are two quite different things and it's time we stopped comparing EE to server plugins/minecraft mods that don't have the same endgame/take less time to endgame/just don't work in a similar way compared to EE - because they shouldn't be compared to EE. They're just not the same gameplay mechanics at all. Quote
SpoonsjTD Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 In defense of the OP, I'm not sure why you two are so hung up on the two things being 'different'. He's comparing the effect of the two, not the two directly. OP: 'Apples' are good for you. 'Oranges' are good for you. I think the effect of apples and oranges on your body are similar. Response: Wait, wait, you can't compare those two things, they are apples and oranges. I think the point of the post was that he thinks votifier can have negative effects on the game economy because it is an imbalanced way to acquire resources. He then used 'EE' as the standard bearer for things that are an imbalanced way to acquire resources. Who cares if one is a mod and one is a plug-in? He is grouping them in a taxonomy as 'things that are bad for a game economy' with no comment on their 'how they integrate with minecraft' taxonomy. Quote

If you want an economy, but you wreck it with votifier, don't disable EE. Quote
