Mac computers cannot use any version above I believe 1.2.5 of the Launcher.

Macs and other Apple products cannot use the launcher above a certain version.

Error Messages:

Minecraft failed to start, errors reported in log. (When I checked the log it was empty)

Yep, same here. I think it's because the version of Java that the new OSX has not playing nice with the launcher/game...

Ask my twin brother he uses the launcher and has a Mac it works fine

That would be because there is no 1.1 patch. You need to find a 1.1 jar, and put it in the cache, labeled something that I don't remember..
