Shizlanski Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I posted this on a reddit a little while ago and it got a bit of interest (won /r/tekkit build of the year!). So I figured i'd post it here. Basically this is a redpower frame tunnel bore. It uses 3 shield projectors in total to function. The most important being the front one with a block cutter upgrade on it. The block cutter shield cuts the wall and then the drops fall and are collected by transposers. Enderchests collect the items where they are then sorted and processed in the processing facility. The ship then moves forward with a simple inch worm drive. It is all controlled using computer craft. Each time it cuts it takes at roughly a 40x40 wall (1600 blocks). This is easily one of the fastest methods of mining possible if you don't include equivalent exchange. The hole: Machine in progess: Preview of processing plant: Take a look at the full image album here: http://imgur.com/a/r3P4c#0 Alternatively, if you like videos, here is a tour and tutorial: I recommend checking out the video tour, I had much better lighting than the screenshots. :)Let me know what you think!
Lethosos Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I noticed in the vid that you don't have a way to keep stuff from falling into holes after breaking the wall. May I recommend a line of block breakers right under the force field to create a lip for all those falling blocks to land on?
Forum Administrators sct Posted January 2, 2013 Forum Administrators Posted January 2, 2013 This is really impressive. Well done.
Shizlanski Posted January 2, 2013 Author Posted January 2, 2013 I noticed in the vid that you don't have a way to keep stuff from falling into holes after breaking the wall. May I recommend a line of block breakers right under the force field to create a lip for all those falling blocks to land on? I did notice this but decided it wasn't so bad, the transposers are able to pick up the things that fall into small holes, just not the deeper holes. I figured an easy way to solve this would be to have yet another shield projector that makes a small lip in front and 1 block below the line of transposers. Again though, I don't think it matters much, I let this machine run for a while and then checked how many entities there were on the ground and it was less than 400 at all times. Thanks for the comments guys, I really appreciate it! I'm always trying to figure out new builds so If anyone has an idea for an interesting build let me know!
Roboman20000 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 EPIC But won't this create massive lag on a server with all those entities around?
Shizlanski Posted January 3, 2013 Author Posted January 3, 2013 If your machine doesn't pick up the entities then it can cause some lag but I've accounted for some problems in the coding. On our server with only 2gb of ram it's no problem at all. I've only every run it for a couple of days though and have chests full of everything so I barely run it now. You can get some fps lag if u watch it up close though.
The_DarthMoogle Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Eh, would've done this slightly above ground. 2000 blocks away, pointed at someone's base.
Kiwionrails Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Eh, would've done this slightly above ground. 2000 blocks away, pointed at someone's base. ........actually, thats a point, would this get past world protection? eg WorldGuard etc?
M-C Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Never thought of using forcefields this way! Great job man! I have some inspiration now...
Shizlanski Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 how long did it take to build/design? The first time I built it it took a while (all in survival) with a slightly inferior design. A few hours spread over a few days. The second time (the much bigger version seen in the images) it only took about 30 minutes once I had all the resources available.
fidchelle Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Wow. This brought a tear to my eye sir. Really, absolutely beautiful work. I think I'm going to follow this schematic in creative mode and then try out my own modified design, If I come up with anything ill post it here. Let's get innovative!
Shizlanski Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 With tekkit-lite you will be able to upgrade the processing plant significantly and you will also be able to make the actual machine a fair bit smaller (though I didn't bother to try and make this compact in the first place). The next time I build this I think I'll make a pretty gui for the computer using the new computercraft features.
SXScarecrow Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 This is incredible! Kudos to you for this, now I gotta get one!!!
