Radiation deep underground?

Sometimes when I'm mining pretty deep, I get the "Radiation" status effect, which effects health in a similar way to the "Wither" effect. Why does this happen? Does it mean I'm close to uranium or something? I play single player, so it can't be from another player's nuke.

I think it uranium has a chance when mined to be "wasted" which gives off radiation or something. Not sure

I think I may have figured it out. In one of my chests at home, I found some "Radioactive Material". I don't know if that's what was causing the radiation, but it's since been removed from the premises.

I would say it's most likely from upgrading to 1.0.8 from a world created before 1.0.8. In the Atomic Science mod, the block IDs for radioactive material and uranium were swapped in that update. Thus, any uranium that was already present in the world got switched to radioactive material and vice versa. Any new chunks would generate normally.

They know about it, there's no plans to change it back. I've already talked to them on the bug forums.

actually regular Uranium Ore(or Uraninite Ore as it's called now) gives off radiation, so there is a chanse of getting poisoned while mining if there are uranium nearby.

yh im pretty sure its the uranite after losing my server i made a new one and as soon as i went to y 12 i started getting raidated and whilst i was mining i found uranite very close by probably gives off radiation in a certain proximity
