soloman469 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I've recently joined the Technic Forums and so yes I may be a noob to all of you guys, but i need help! Here are my computer specs: My computer specs: -Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) -Intel® Pentium® D CPU 3.40GHz -Frequency:3389.176 MHz -L2 Cache:2048 KB -Memory Total:3000 MiB Now, onto the stuff i need help with... I just downloaded the TechnicLauncher (A huge pain in the a**) and when i select a modpack, then when I start to download the modpack, it starts off with the minecraft.jar file (As always...) but then, when the file finishes downloading, it restarts downloading itself over and over, totaling three times. Then on the end of the last redownload, it says: Update Failed WTF IS GOING ON??? Quote
Richs_Yard Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 What is your operating system? Ex. Windows 7 or 8 Mac, linux and al that good stuff. Quote
soloman469 Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 Mine is Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin Quote
Richs_Yard Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Ah, sorry for the confusion. Never heard of the system, or else I wouldnt of asked. Quote
Richs_Yard Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 So you wait until someone with technical know-how stumbles upon the thread. Remember, if you fix this without help, post how you did it. Quote
nedned2k Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 What AV do you use? Some have been known to cause problems. Quote
lukeb28 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 For now lets pretend like his AV is not the problem. Other things we need to know to fix it: - What modpack you were trying to download (Technic team of custom is the big thing) - What your firewall settings are (It might just be your firewall being overly protective) - How good your Internet is (If it's really crappy you might just be out of luck) - Have you tried any of the other packs? Answer these and I am sure you will get an answer that will solve or at least diagnose your problem. Quote
soloman469 Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 -I was trying to download the Tekkit Classic modpack -I don't know much about my firewall. -I get great internet (3Mbps) -No Quote
soloman469 Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 I've just tried every single one, all of them said Update Failed. Quote

miniboxer Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Careful! He might not know that Ubuntu is based on Linux! OP: get an AV. You are asking for a virus. I have never even heard of someone getting a virus on modern versions of linux. The few that still will actually run on modern linux kernals are mostly adware, with one known rootkit (that is targeted at 64 bit web servers specifically, would do next to no damage on a desktop version of linux that isn't a web server). The few antivirus programs that exist for linux are mostly rootkit removers, and offer no realitime protection. There is two programs that are memory analyzers that still aren't as effective as realtime shields. The modern versions of the linux kernal are just overall highly secure with little security flaws that are patched rapidly by the community. The only known unpatched raised permissions exploit requires physical access to the machine in order to get root access without a password. It certainly is possible to get a virus on linux, but it would be far easier to remove than a windows or mac virus, considering the prevalence of LiveCDs and dedicated rootkit checkers, but to get one would be even more rare than getting a virus on a mac in the first place. Download the new one from technicpack.net When i tried to download it from the technicpack.net website, it wouldn't let me download the launcher cause every time i clicked the Linux button it would do nothing! Also, i don't know how to run the Minecraft.jar file or the TechnicPack.jar file! Quote
