Onmius Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Just wanted to join and talk with the community about ways you happen to use the various parts of Tekkit. First ill simply start off by listing what I think about the various mods and how I use them and also ask a few things in general that I simply do not get. Buildcraft: Love it, I use it as the backbone of my production and automation with the exception of actual Power. ----- Minefactory: I dont seem to use these as much as the machines in thermal expansion for the reason of pipeing and power issues I run into, How do you guys make use the tools here? ----- Thermal Expansion: makes up the bulk of my actual machines and the power system, all great here. ----- Implied Energetics: Is a absolute MUST for item management and storage, my only complaint about it boils down to a Floppy disk should not be more complicated to make then the computer running it. ------- Galacticraft: Is my own little immersion goal, Everything leading up to an actual space station being the space program itself ---------- Steves carts: Now this is definitely a discussion topic, I want to know what everyone else uses this mod for in there tekkit worlds, or just carts in general, Maybe Im missing something but they seems completely moot given all the other tools tekkit gives us. ----- Modular Powersuits: Absolutely fantastic! My only complaint is probably just me and thats trying to balance out having decent armor plating but at the same time moving at a decent speed without bursting into flames every couple of minutes. ------ Mystcraft and Dimensional doors: Have not made use of them yet and I would LOVE to know how you guys make use of them in your tekkit worlds. ------- Computer craft: Would probably use it a lot more, make a computer control room for my factory and such if the sensors actually worked properly on the MF and TE machines, maybe they do and im just missing something. ---------- And thats all my thoughts on them, and like I said PLEASE let me know how you guys typically use all these handy tools together to get great efficient works going :)
Onmius Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 Also here is an example of how I use Minefactory, Also it shows that said power/piping issues I was talking about, I ended up useing Sooo much conduit just to set these up.
Onmius Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 Well I could do that, but my problem is not space its the fact that any decent amount of conduits costs me SO much redstone. Basically its a pain to run wires and pipes and I was wondering if anyone did anything differently, like maybe conveyor belts, I really dont know how feasible it is to use those.
CubeyBooby Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Each piece of conduit has 200 milibuckets of redstone in it, which translates to two pieces of redstone dust. That makes it twice as expensive as conductive pipes, right? But I tend to run out of electrum before I run out of redstone. I'd really like to see more conveyor belts. I seriously just have no idea how useful they are because they're so underrepresented compared to BC pipes. By the way, I love how you took getting Applied Energistics' name wrong a step further.
Onmius Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 See that confuses me, Because I swear I pop in a full stack of redstone into the magma cube, and then I only get like, 24 conduits out of that, maybe my costs are bugged? Also yes Implied on purpose Because you know, Ive got my old timey engines running in one room, and my quantum mechanics running in the other right?
Magicthize Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 It's definitely 200 for me as well. Made 2 stacks of conduits last night and it needed 4 stacks of redstone. There's still a ton of stuff in this mod that I haven't even touched. I only just discovered (and got ridiculously excited about) Implied Energistics at the weekend and now wish we hadn't wasted so many resources on our old item storage system of chests and pipes. Computercraft is likely my next port of call.
Onmius Posted May 14, 2013 Author Posted May 14, 2013 Ive used computer craft in older versions of tekkit to manage the engines and turn them off before they got to hot, but with the new and far better alternatives, the biofuel generator and magmatic, I dont have to watch them as carefully. Now what I would love to do with them is set up a power monitoring room with the opensensors addon, but sadly they do not seem to work with the redstone power cells.
Magicthize Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 It would be nice if there was something like the IC2 recycler so I would have something to do with alot of the gear I've collected and now no longer have a use for. I'm coming down with Gold Swords from Pigmen but I'm never going to use them. It's actually a same we couldn't melt them down or disassemble them into their component parts (obviously at a loss).
Onmius Posted May 14, 2013 Author Posted May 14, 2013 That would be nice, maybe throw an item into the pulveriser and get back half the metal cost in dust?
King Lemming Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 It would be nice if there was something like the IC2 recycler so I would have something to do with alot of the gear I've collected and now no longer have a use for. I'm coming down with Gold Swords from Pigmen but I'm never going to use them. It's actually a same we couldn't melt them down or disassemble them into their component parts (obviously at a loss). It's something I considered for the Induction Smelter honestly. Probably give back a couple of nuggets with a very tiny chance of Rich Slag. Now that TE actually adds nuggets for most things, it's doable.
Magicthize Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 DO IT! I've always wondered why is there an empty box in the bottom left UI of all the TE machines. Is there a use for it (that I'm not stupid to have found) or is it just not used by any of the Tekkit mods? I always think of it like an upgrade slot the same as the Buildcraft machines only there are no upgrades for them.
Lethosos Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I thought that you could stick an energy cell in there to recover lost MJ if you had to move your machine.
Euphoreich Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Dude you gotta use minefactory its fantastic. Also lol at the pics, check out range upgrades.
Onmius Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 Range upgrade... thank you so much that basically solves the problem.
