do my friends need the technic launcher to play on my server?

i thinking about making a server but i want to make sure people can get on it with out the technic launcher. can they get on my server with out the launcher?

Unless you're using pre-launcher versions of Tekkit, yes, they need to use the Launcher.

Why would it be so important for them to be able to get on without the launcher?

EDIT: Well, that's true, but they could just be not trusting it.

Because it won't let them do piracy.
