Updating to the Minecraft 1.7 (or newest)

When will the Tekkit launcher allow for the updating of Minecraft to the 1.7 or newest version?  Currently, I'm playing Minecraft under the Tekkit launcher and Attack of the B-Team modpack, but my minecraft version is still "stuck" in this 1.6.4 version. 

Is there a way to update this version to the newest without losing any of my builds and/or save data?

If you are playing vanilla, 1.7 builds are available.

 

If you're playing modpacks, then you can't. The modpacks have not been updated to 1.7 builds yet.
There is no ETA for that either, and it's pointless to ask. You'll receive no answer at best, and get a warning at worst.

Even when there's a version of your favorite pack(s) for 1.7, chances are you won't be able to directly bring your old world over without some things breaking.  Mostly depends on what your existing world is built out of.
