launcher downlods wrong version, deletes all my computercraft programs

Question

Posted

launcher version: 1.0.1.1

os: windows 7 64 bit

java: JDK 7u4 64 bit

well it said there was an update available so i pressed yes then it deleted my mods/computercraft/ folder containing my hours of work

and there was nothing in the backups

it turns out it randomly downloaded the latest dev build even when i selected 2.1.0 manually, ruining my world and deleting my hours of work on computercraft programs

fuck you technic launcher

If you manually selected it to use 2.1.0 then why did you click yes to the update?

But anyway if you go to the following folder

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\.techniclauncher\tekkit\backups

That will contain zipped of your configs before it does the update I am pretty sure. So hopefully you set the options file to save world files, otherwise your screwed im sorry to say

Windows 7 likes to make backups of previous versions of things, depending on your settings and how recently you did the work and when it was deleted, you might be able to use that feature to get it back.

apparently you didnt read, my programs were in mods/computercraft/ not in my world

the backup dosent store that for some stupid reson oh and there is no restore point either

I read just fine, you didn't mention a restore point, I get it, you're mad, but take it as an opportunity to write them better this time. You're not doing yourself any favors getting pissed at someone else because you failed to make backups.

Yeah, uh, you realize that you're always supposed to back things up right? Especially labor intensive things like programs you've written.

i did, in the computercraft folder, and there is absolutaley nothing that could permanently delete it besides me and a program like the technic launcher

Are you seriously telling me that you backed up your programs in the same directory that they go in the first place? That's not a backup. A backup is, by its own nature, elsewhere on the drive, or even off of it, so that in case something happens, you still have it.

programs go in mods/computercraft/lua/

i simply store the backups in mods/computercraft

do you people know anything about computercraft?

Do you know anything about computers? Why would you back up important data in a directory that gets overwritten during updates?

*facepalm* you guys keep blaming me while ignoring that it downloaded the wrong version

AND a moderator told me that it will back up EVERYTHING in the mods folder before updating

it was first at manual build selection for 2.1.0

then it updated to the dev build for no reson

i had to reinstall the technic launcher manually to get it to finally download 2.1.0

just for me to find that it didnt back up my stuff before downloading the dev build

It...doesn't do this. You have to change it to dev build. Period.

So. You expected it to back up all of your shit after updating to the Dev build 'for no reson' (sic) because you failed to set the settings correctly. Do you also expect the Launcher to make you coffee and a sandwich while you wait?

Bwahaha. Haha. Ha. No, no, I'm not laughing with you.

No, it did not. You either manually selected the dev build, or you set it to always use most recent build.

This is all a moot point though. whatever posessed you to store backups for your programs in a location that would be affected by anything that would affect their regulra location, you know not to do that now, right?

Wait, so you either loaded a world that said it needed to be converted, or answered yes when it asked to convert your world? Didn't that seem odd to you?
