New to server setups, and I request assistance!

If you are using Windows you can find your local IP address through bringing up the command prompt and typing "ipconfig", this is for if all the computers are on the same LAN.

To find your public IP address (for over the internet play) type "whats my IP" into Google and it should tell you, but then you will probably have to play with port forwarding on your router.

Also, if you're playing on the computer you're hosting the server on, you can just use "localhost" instead of your internal IP address. Others will have you use your internal ip address which, as stated, you can get from running ipconfig in the command prompt. In all likelihood, you're IP address will be 192.168.x.x or 192.168.1.x (whereas the x can change based on how your router is configured).

192.168.1.1 will probably connect you to your router which would allow you to check all current connections and IP addresses and also create the port forwarding rule if you want to involve people not on the local network.

Good luck.

In your server.properties file you will find a (i think) level-seed= - shove a seed into here.

Now you will need to delete your current world directories.

The new world will be generated with the seed provided in the server.properties file.

Go into your router settings. Look at your router manual (available online, probably, at the manufacturer's website). Find out how to get to your port forwarding settings. Port forward port 25565 TCP/UDP incoming and outgoing to your computer (either by name or by the internal IP address of your computer on the network 192.168.1.x; if you can't find it, run ipconfig from command prompt). Apply the port forwarding rule. Test. Beer.

so how does one go into the router settings

For most routers:

Open internet browser of choice (Firefox here).

instead of a url type in "192.168.1.1"

In all likelihood, you're in the general tab of your router settings.
