Industrial Craft2 is not working in the 5.0.5 version of the mod pack. I believe some items are missing.

Has anyone here played Technic Pack version 6? I am worried about trusting my account information to an external launcher.

There you go. I fixed it for you.

First of all, let me be the first one to tell you that the new technic launcher is both extremely easy to use and 100% legitimate.

Second of all, I don't think I could really help you troubleshoot your current build as I'm not sure what you might or might not have done correctly, but once again, I highly recommend updating to the current release.

Yes, it is a scam. You see, due to the way the launcher automates installation you have to enter your Minecraft account into it, so that it can check for updates and such.

You see, this must mean that the Technic crew is secretly working with Mojang in an attempt to force people to buy accounts! It's the most devious scam I've ever seen!

We're on the take! And we're selling your gold on ebay!

Yeah no. A legitimate concern, but don't worry about the launcher. Shit's all open source. Completely safe.

It's funny because when you say open source, it looks like anyone can access it, and you are putting your information on it XD

Not terribly funny. Not even close to what open source means. I should hope people don't think that.

I know Cheap Shot, but for people like me that don't know what an open source actually means, it looks like what I said, do you get me?

But I don't even care about this, I trust you guys

No I got you. That's what I was saying, that I hope people don't actually get the impression it means that.

Yeah and because the code is on GitHub, you can look at it and analyse it. Open up the folder if you want etc...

Just for giggles, here's something from the KoL Mafia page, which I think is relevant and interesting.

To make things absolutely clear, open sourcing a program does not make it secure -- it strictly makes it easier to take advantage of work already done by other people, provided you are willing to act in accordance with the terms of the license under which the source code is provided. That said, I believe KoLmafia is safe. However, I'm the main developer of KoLmafia, and I only use a small fraction of its features, so my opinion of it should be taken with a grain of salt.

My personal belief is that running any program (including the web browser you are using to view this page) is about near-unconditional trust. If, for any reason, you don't trust the companies and individuals involved in the development of the program, I strongly suggest that you should never run the program, no matter what the promised benefits may be. I believe these same guidelines should be applied if you're thinking about using KoLmafia.

I think this applies to Technic too. If you're thinking about using Technic, take a look around the forums, and see what people are saying. Think about why you want to use the program, and think about if that makes sense.

Using the Technic pack is kind of like hiring a chauffeur (except he doesn't cost anything): You go all the same places and do all the same things, but it's a lot easier and you encounter a lot fewer problems, and generally, it's a lot more fun. I personally think it's worth it.

Yeah, the launcher is an impressive piece of work and the fact it's all based on open source coding makes me feel better than if it were a privately housed project. Like noob said, you can crack it open and poke around if you're not feeling super great about it.

The integrity the technic crew has displayed with each release really hasn't put a doubt in my mind that what they're doing is legit. They've made it easier for users to install mods and more beneficial for mod makers because it's an easy install for users, so they get more exposure to the mods and are more apt to donating.
