  1. The flight/landing issue with gem armours in the nether is repeatable. One of my friends on my server suffered the same thing multiple times. He was less than happy when he lost just about everything after going ghast hunting. I've noticed a couple of other little niggles in lower-end EE stuff so far, mainly cosmetic (swiftwolf only going between red and off, regardless of what combination of powers are in use).
  2. Like Wooden-Ace said, make sure the larger hole (the + shaped one) is facing the compressor. If that still doesn't work then try using buildcraft pipes to empty the compressor into a chest and have the transposer connected to that instead. Remember that you need to have pipes connected to the side to retrieve the output from the compressor.
  3. You seem to be putting a few of these posts up, and get similar reactions from the community each time. I appreciate the cathartic effect of writing down/posting up stuff like this, I used to do so myself when I was (much) younger. It helps to make sense of things am the act of writing it is often more important than the responses it generates. A good place to do it, if you haven't found it already, is LiveJournal. It's a good way to write the stuff up and keep it together. You can make it public, restricted or even completely private. I'm not in any way trying to tell you what to do, nor am I implying any form of criticism. I know things can be overwhelming to someone at that point in life, and I found that was something that could help.
  4. Eldmor's got the right of it there. It varies a little depending on which country you're in, but a good rule of thumb is to look online and find how much it would cost to order a pc already built to the specs you want (that isn't made by Alienware) and expect to spend at least half of that. That should give you a comfortable margin to work with.
  5. A great starting point is the neweggTV YouTube channel. They do a good 3-part guide for building your own pc, going into some of the theory behind making your choices for components and essential software. They were what I used when I finally took the plunge (having previously commissioned a custom build and upgraded/replaced components over the years). I'll admit it can't tell you everything, but it will give you a much better understanding of what will be involved.
  6. Though Minecraft is the largest singularity sucking in my free time in it's with it's massive awesomeness pulling field, I still take the time to play Dwarf Fortress every so often. I am sure there is at least one other DF player on the board, so there must be others. I was wondering if anybody would be interested in getting a bloodlines game going through the forum. New ways to experience 'fun' can't be a bad thing...... right? Just seeing if there would be any interest. (Bloodlines/succession game: players take turns to play a fortress, typically one year at a time, then pass on to the next player)
  7. Sorry, I had left a word out of my post by mistake. I had meant to say 'Minecraft.jar base classes'. So I'm thinking that you're correct. It also looks like it is another issue that has been reported as well as the RedPower one, so a fix may be arranged eventually. Fortunately I'm working with 1.2.5 MC already (not using technic for my test builds), so hopefully won't be waiting too long. Like I said, in the meantime I'll just move Mystcraft into a different build.
  8. Now that I've had time to do some heavier testing I have found a couple of incompatibilities with Mystcraft and a couple of other mods. First is Wireless Redstone (ChickenBone version), which causes a saving chunks crash on travelling to a new age. I don't speak java well enough to properly identify it, I'm not asking for any support as I know these aren't Technic mods, but I can edit and attach the crash log if people are interested. As far as I can tell from my very limited knowledge and application of logic reading the log, it lies in the minecraft.jar classes that the mods interact with. Second was discovered after disabling Wireless Redstone. On travelling to a new age the frame rate plummets and keeps fluctuating heavily. Doing some research I found reference to a bug with RedPower that causes a cycle of infinite chunks loading that has been identified by the author but not corrected in a release yet. Again, I am not looking for support. I'm more than happy to switch Mystcraft out of my mod-heavy build into another one that I'm working on, I'm just putting this up so that others who are interested have more information.
  9. If you don't mind a little more setup you could use an EE collector mk1 and a condenser set to make charcoal, then use a simple provider/supplier logistic pipe network to keep three steam engines running. The quarry runs at a nice speed, the engines won't overheat and I have found that the one condenser/collector 1 setup can easily supply four steam engines.
  10. Well, I did some further researching myself and as far as I can tell it mostly plays nice with the majority of the mods that are in technic if you get past block id conflicts. I followed some advice from Direwolf20 (youtube LP minecraft, well worth watching) and set up a MultiMC install with most of the stuff I liked from Technic and a few extras. I used the 4096 id fixmod, moved some conflicting ids around and made sure Mystcraft loads after Modloader. So far it runs fine under 1.2.5, but I haven't had the chance to do some serious stress testing on the build. So the compatibility seems doable with some effort. As to the current rec build of Technic, I'm afraid I can't help you there. There are some mods, such as Millenaire, that definitely don't work with it, and I haven't tried the older versions for previous MC builds.
  11. (For Science!) What a lot of people aren't informed about by the mediais that the 'lungs of the world' are not actually the jungles/forests/rainforests. The vast majority of CO2 conversion is handled by the seas and oceans. Over 70% of the Earth's surface not only dissolves CO2 into itself where the photosynthesising algae happily converts it back into oxygen. By comparison the trees are just the proverbial drop in the ocean. So go ahead and torch your jungle valleys, safe in the knowledge that your environment will only suffer loss of habitat. You only need to worry if you pump oil into the oceans, or drain them dry cooling your reactors and combustion engines.
  12. If I recall what I read correctly about the proposed development on the mod's site, the author is planning to implement more expensive recipes for things like the descriptive and linking books. So the ease of access will be dealt with at some point. The instability/decay mechanic also limits some of the exploitation of resources. Hopefully that should allay a few fears. For myself, it makes no difference. All I'm concerned with is the potential flavour that the underlying idea adds to what is already a content-rich collection. I know this mod won't be to everyone's taste so I'm not going to be a rabid fanboy about it. Basically: I like it. I'd use it. I'd have fun doing so. If it doesn't end up in the pack then I am capable of (eventually) implementing it manually. Speaking of which, Jakj. Your work that I've seen and read about on the boards has inspired me to learn how to deal with mods in more detail. After several hours of research, reading and experimentation I have been able to manually add in several mods, remove mods causing complex issues and resolve some simple block id conflicts. As a result I have a mod combination that contains most of what I want, and seems relatively stable. I just wanted to say thanks for that, I'm more confident in messing around with this awesome game now.
  13. Sorry about that. My mistake for not being clear enough. I'm not at my desktop right now so I can't properly check, but these are the author's words: "'Official' Forge Patches are up on the Mystcraft Downloads page. I've verified they work, but not that they work with specific mods. These 'patches' are standalone, in that you don't need to download the normal Mystcraft distributables; just install the mystcraft 'patch' over forge. Hopefully that is simpler for everyone and it should have fewer issues." I was mostly wondering if someone with more technical skill than me had a chance to look yet.
  14. It looks like the latest version (0.8.1) for MC 1.2.5 no has 'official' forge support. Not a patch but a standalone download not needing the normal client download. Does anyone knows if this helps with current compatibility issues?
  15. I know I'll always have room for the Painterly Pack. The first pack I ever used seriously, native resolution and special versions compiled for the Yogbox (doesn't look bad alongside technic either).
  16. *shamefully raises hand* Fixed it for me too.
  17. Launcher/pack Version: Launcher 1.0.1.1 Tekkit 3.0.0|1.2.5|Latest Operating System: Win7 64bit Version of Java: Jre7 Description of Problem: Client loads up fine, server activates fine. The problem occurs when I try and connect to the server. I immediately lose my connection to an 'End of Stream' error. I can confirm that this also happens with another player connecting remotely. The same type error message appears both on his client and on my server readout. This world has been played frequently over the past few weeks and runs (relatviely) bug free. Error Messages: [sEVERE] java.io.IOException: Received string length longer than maximum allowed (90 > 16) 2012-04-23 00:32:51 [sEVERE] at net.minecraft.server.Packet.a(Packet.java:120) 2012-04-23 00:32:51 [sEVERE] at net.minecraft.server.Packet1Login.a(Packet1Login.java:38) 2012-04-23 00:32:51 [sEVERE] at net.minecraft.server.Packet.a(Packet.java:79) 2012-04-23 00:32:51 [sEVERE] at net.minecraft.server.NetworkManager.h(NetworkManager.java:152) 2012-04-23 00:32:51 [sEVERE] at net.minecraft.server.NetworkManager.c(NetworkManager.java:270) 2012-04-23 00:32:51 [sEVERE] at net.minecraft.server.NetworkReaderThread.run(SourceFile:76) 2012-04-23 00:32:51 [iNFO] /127.0.0.1:53437 lost connection While I am able to do some basic troubleshooting, I don't have the knowledge of java to understand what it's trying to tell me. (EDIT: I had forgotten that I still had the 'dev build' button selected. Stepping down to 'recommended build' has fixed the issue. I hang my head in shame that it took me two hours of attempted problemsolving before I looked at that part)
  18. I have this lovely mental image after watching the mod spotlight: A flat, endless ocean world with heavy resources. A large, imposing structure housing a supply depot, with the view from the top being BC quarry frames (64*64) and piping as far as the view can render.... Theming every age you write to favour a different project or mod. Each Age a showcase in itself. Kinda makes me wish I knew a little more about coding and modding so I could help make that happen. Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this would be a beautiful addition to a Technic build.
  19. I had a very similar problem just yesterday and I was able to solve it quite quickly because of an issue I'd had with Technic SSP a week ago. Do you happen to be using Chunkloader blocks? I had a connection termination then constant 'End of Stream' kicks on login. As I know Chunkloader can be buggy (having recently locked horns with the thing previously) I remembered that the most recent thing I'd done was set a Chunkloader block fairly close to where I first crashed out of the server. My friends were still connected so the server was ok. To cut to the end, I stopped the server, went into the world using MCEdit and deleted the Chunkloader block I'd placed. After that everything was fine, I've not had a problem connecting since.
  20. It doesn't look like it. Someone was asking regarding quarries in the nether (for SSP Technic) and because the world get's unloaded on transition then chunkloaders don't work. If it's a server though, what if someone were in the Nether and someone stayed Overworld? Might it work then?
  21. I had a similar problem to you at first. I don't know enough to properly troubleshoot java, but I can suggest a temporary workaround that helped me. Change the port in the server.properties file by one or two down (eg, ending in 4 instead of the default), do the same with your port forwarding. Mine works ok for me now, but that worked for me (until it randomly started working properly. That might help until someone more knowledgeable can step in to help.
