Updating a server will do this - the seed generation algorithm changes, and the map generates new terrain that doesn't match biome or level with the old one. I've restarted more than a couple of worlds when it does this.

Oh, and the Bukkit port file has to version-match the client file(s), and be Forge version-compatible, and you have to check for item/block ID conflicts. Have fun!

There are no Pros. It will consume your life if you let it. It's a giant time sink, and encourages minimalist communication (i.e. stupid status updates). There's a reason most employers have it filtered out of their office computers.

You may be doomed. Have you tried playing with graphical settings and/or versions of OptiFine (the default included one isn't always the best for your system) to maximize framerate? Are you absolutely certain you're using 64-bit Java? Since you have Windows 7, is it possible for you to pull a backup of your .techniclauncher folder from before the update?

Downgrading is accomplished by going into Options in the launcher, doing a Clear Cache, and changing the version number. It really is that easy. I'd make a complete folder backup before you do it, of course. For you, I'm having trouble believe you have the exact same system and antivirus...so what's yours? It could be interfering with your download.

The process of using capes, skins, etc. has no difference between Technic/Tekkit and vanilla, as far as I know. Is there something weird about how HD skins are applied?

Nope, mod selection on a server is just removing the mods from the server's mods file, and single-player selection works the same way. Just don't update afterwards, and be aware that removing, say, RedPower Core without removing all the peripherals will cause problems.

A nice server ad in one of those sections would indeed be much more attention-getting. This is the wrong place for this.

Correction: See the mods above me, who have been around longer and would know this stuff better. This was a misunderstanding on my part, and server ads should not go on the General Tekkit SMP board.

This is the intended forum for posts like this. If you would like to make your server advertised but whitelisted, then it would go on the server boards, which are reviewed for quality before posts are allowed through.
