  1. Read the political thread you addressed (downfall of America or some such) and was impressed by the information you had at hand; no opinion and a counter to every point.

Still, when you mentioned Tesla I thought of this: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/tesla and wondered where you got your information on him.

    1. Jay?

      Jay?

That was where i first heard the stuff about tesla, i did my own fact checking later though.

  2. I was saying that EE would remove the need for furnaces, which is the exact argument you posed to me. For myself, if you're going to use it to remove a step, what is the point of just the one step when you can bypass the whole process? Still, I wonder if you could use RP2 to pull an item into a collector and generate them, then shoot them over to a trading machine on cue... Perhaps even a item detector to send a pulse to a CC terminal and subsequent board to show stockpiles? We've already seen it partially done here. Worldedit saves the specific item ID's to improve compatibility; it works with Tekkit as long as the end-user has the same item ID's (which is always necessary for a map). Unsure about entities however, and of course CC scripts are not stored in the world file.
  3. It doesn't reflect the servers though; tekkit has always had it's fair share of incompetent players (I made this argument in another thread yesterday in fact). Also, this point wasn't made yet in this thread, so I'm retroactively adding it to my post as it's in it now!
  4. This entire thread when read from top to bottom surmised. Some people don't know what the word Anarchy means. Some people lack the vocabulary to use anything but this word. One person has something against punctuation. "lulz people who like [sustainability] are dumb" Most 'anarchy' servers have incompetent staff. [From The_DarthMoogle] Players too incompetent to use alternatives to power flowers and condensers.
  5. To be fair, I don't recall them saying it will always stay. I do believe I've read affirmations that it will stay in the next installment (I have definitely not heard otherwise) but every mod has the capacity to be booted as we operate on the whims of the Technic gods. Just edited my post to remind everyone that the bypassing griefing protection is solved regularly by our own community, and a simple search will get you to the thread. This griefing accessibility is more by administrative incompetence than poor hindsight.
  6. You can feel special all you want, because it was good advice. Still, to be safe you might want to get tested. I love this thread; nothing yet I'm not interested in, barring the wall of anime that may contain much to be raising an eyebrow at (To be read as: Some anime plot/happenings are pretty questionable, as Japanese cartoons tend to lie on the other side of odd/unbelievable). Still, But which first? Easily found? Also someone mentioned NOVA being dry, which it is, until you get a diamond that is their building trebuches and destroying stuff. Edit: See 2 posts down. >.>
  7. I actually think that the minimalistic use of EE here is what drives the popularity for it; wouldn't be amazingly impressive to just have a machine that creates EMC from a quarry, and there would be no point in refining materials as macerated mats are the same value. With 20 ticks in a second, that's 10,000,000 EU in 40 ticks -> 250,000 EU/t at just over 488 HV Solar Arrays. This being 750k coal, 1.6mil copper, 2.5mil iron, 1mil tin, 3.25mil rubber, and 1.5mil redstone. As said before, the power generation isn't what is impressive, it's the computer programs ability to watch and automate it.
  8. The release of these programs has seriously put me into a conundrum... CC, or RP2 computers? Everything was so simple before, but now? Now I just don't know anymore. On a side note, from another thread: I've got to get some sort of source, as opinions seem mixed.
  9. I was skeptical of all the praise, as I said to myself, "What's the big deal, I do this every time I play a new map." Then, I saw that screen. That large, beautiful screen. Once you take notice of the safety features (the entire complex is construction foam; blast resistant as well as the blimp-sized readout) you can tell someone didn't want to ever have to move to troubleshoot again. My only complaint would be buildcraft pipes and the lack of multiple inputs, meaning overflow if you stacked the system with a large load... but at this point, you have a perfect quarry management system. Also props to you who have so much gold for those energy links, it took me until second look to see you have at least 3 stacks of it invested into them. They pay for themselves in UU though! Though copper/tin costs on the generators alone are at about 20 stacks each, and iron is near 50 (calc. from a healthy 208 water mills and est. 256 solar panels, less than half that is likely). Edit: The giant platform above your water-generators... I can't tell what that is I'm seeing; glass fiber all the way? It may look pretty, but doesn't this cause lag via the direction-finding for the packets? It does not, apparently.
  10. Love a good discussion on books. My horror suggestion: Richard Matheson. If you want a specific suggestion, I Am Legend (though technically a short story, good for an afternoon). Nothing like the movie, but almost everything this guy writes makes me feel uncomfortable and lose appetite for a day or two. Also, for a good satire/comedy Catch-22 is a classic and fun. Looked into it; over 15 days of Doctor Who if watched straight. Doctor Who: ~360 hrs; Stargate SG-1: 153.15 hrs; Stargate Atlantis: 56 hrs. If you watched 6 hours of this a day, it would last over three months. Achievement: Summer Get!
  11. It's been solved, permissions issue. Not related to Tekkit. EDIT: Thanks for the correction Torezu! :D
  12. I've actually got a suggestion to watch/read Nightwatch at least twice yesterday, so I'll second that it may be worth the read. The list is a collected amount of books that are established and extremely powerful in the communities it effected; it is also based on quality vs. applicability to the world. Notice Harry Potter was missing? Good. Also Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club, book/movie are fantastic. Ender's Game* is on the list as well, but it's pretty short. Fantastic, but an easy read. Orson Scott-Card is great at getting his point across. May god have mercy on your summer. EDIT: We may need to find out if MrCurry wants novels, or something a bit lighter like a webcomic. EDIT2: Neowulf, you seem versed in Pratchett; Which book should I read first? *May contain trace amounts of Mormon propaganda/ideology
  13. No worries, but I'd take that IP down as this is a public forum... or not, if you want traffic.
  14. Beat me to it. Also finding out I couldn't fly while roofing a house. (I stepped on a shingle while roofing and went barreling down, only to catch myself on a knot that was thankfully large enough.)
  15. A bit on topic, I think the internet gets people off track and only serves to exagerate the male ego. My favorite portrayals of feminine strength usually include a realistic ideology that normally doesn't revolve around gender. A woman being a strong individual for the sake of others is different than one who is strong in the face of men. We're all people, and if I had to choose a captain of sorts I'd rather have the person who can make a decision rather than complain about how men are always forcing their opinions on her. Learned helplessness vs real strength. Also, Astro and Dino are organizing an Arf league.
  16. For books versus time, The Wheel of Time series is a good fantasy with 13 books over 1000 pages each (and they are consistently good). Dune was excellent, the first three books are a compilation of political intrigue and assassination. (better than I make it sound). The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, brilliant. This list. Television series... Scrubs, comedy, sitcom with at least 8 good seasons. Stargate SG-1, Sci-fi, 10 seasons of 1-hour episodes (about a day per season if you go sleep deprived). Stargate Atlantis, for when you finish SG-1. Jay? suggested an anime, so I will too: Full Metal Panic! is surprisingly good/funny. Mech combat (not usually my thing) with awkward guy/girl thing going on. Movies don't take very long, but I enjoyed LOTR; if you want to burn your eyes with description you could try reading that series as well (I read the first Dune book in the time it took to read 70 pages of Fellowship of the Ring.) EDIT: Netflix has each of my television suggestions on instant, if you have it.
  17. Might want to use the edit feature instead of a triple post within 2 minutes. I still would like a picture or explanation of how you tried, as no matter what I've seen, "I watched/EXACTLY followed EVERY step" usually doesn't mean much and is mostly a cry for help. As this is tekkit and you seem to have your own host, would you be willing to invite me in to check it out? That or I'm available via Skype if you're able to share your screen. I just have a difficult time declaring a server error when it's most often not.
  18. I noticed your fire-charge system of EMC generation, and while I do not use EE I was wondering if I got the same numbers as you in calculating it's efficiency.

    http://preview.tinyurl.com/7ndgp9h

I've just added a portion near the bottom regarding the fire charge input/output efficiency, and yours ranks at over 500%. It's expandable with regulators and Crafting Table mk2's, so I wanted to double check the numbers.

    1. BuccaneerRex

      BuccaneerRex

I just whipped it together in creative, to get the high efficiency one. I didn't really do much number crunching. One of the ways I made it more efficient was not to use the fire charges directly, but just as an intermediate step. The blaze powder is actually what fuels everything.

  19. I meant that if this is a physical race, some items are much more suited to quickly getting places than others. Scaffolds take 8.5 wood to make (3 planks and 3 sticks) and give 16 scaffolds; these are able to be stacked from the bottom, climbed on every side, and reinforced to branch outward. They are amazing. If this is more of a challenge to get to some prize, in this case wool, then ignore what I said. I love challenge maps that force to me either fully understand a mod, or combine mods.
  20. It does calculations based on "bedrock level" according to all sources I've found, which I assume is actually just a measure of the Z-axis. Ground level should have no influence whatsoever on the calculations, and the (fuel) jetpack was never meant to be a source of unlimited flight. I believe that Alblaka is taking into account air pressure in the realism of jetpacks (and to make them less OP than already seen).
  21. I can confirm it is indeed supposed to be reduced height in an electric jetpack. It has maintained it's 85 block limit, as it is a renewable resource it has a limit to maintain it's balance. It also may be due to the bug where you still take fall damage appropriate to the highest height you were at. Normal jetpack should get you higher.
  22. While trying everything, you could also tell us specifically what your setup looks like so that we may critique it. Steam engines need to point towards the quarry, be powered, and have something to burn inside them. If using landmarks, the Quarry is placed outside, by the red line (the corner of it, but not diagonally). IC2 power has to run through an energy link placed beside the quarry (no pipes connecting them, just place it adjacent). Remember the quarry has to build itself and it takes time proportional to the amount of Buildcraft Joules it is receiving. Last minute thought: IC2 to Buildcraft conversions happen on a 5:2 ratio, so your 1EU/t from IC2 solar panels translates into bug-all. You'll need 10-22.5EU/t to translate into a decent, noticeable speed (in running, building is always particularly slow). Once we rule out user error, then we call it a bug.
  23. You would have to do some serious contemplation on what to add, and what to remove. Me, I'd scaffold like no other and could potentially be anywhere on the map in travel time + 1 minute.
  24. As the deployer acts as an inventory, the directions should not affect the pulling of items to/from it. I attempted to recreate your issue but it seems to be working on my end; perhaps a screenshot to better understand the situation? Deployers recreate a right-click action, and it the functionality of bottles has not changed; my only thought would be a rouge rogue retriever pulling the bottles out somehow. EDIT: Fixed a typo that made me sound prejudice. I do dislike red though.
  25. Usually you have to deal with item ID conflicts, but in the interest of not teaching everyone how to install potentially griefing material, I'll let someone else handle the issue. As for potential flight privileges, you would have to use a permission handler (there's about 3 out there atm, my own knowledge of this is minimal as it's been over 6 months since I hosted a server). Check the bukkit forums for potential permission handlers. EDIT: Also do not forget to allow flight within your base server config file, allow_flight=true. You'll have to simultaneously get an anti-cheat program (I used NoCheat in the past) and apply it's bypass-permission nodes to each person you want to allow flight to. This does not give them the ability, but the permission to.
