Okay, made a wikia account EDIT: Made the mods list EDIT 2: server setup is done
-
I'd love to help! EDIT: I've also made a tutorial on how to make a server, maybe that's a good thing to include in the wiki?

Well, this is... Awkward, I just started making a starters guide for Voltz XD
-
Okay, I've decided to make a starting guide on Voltz because of the request, and I felt like making one . In this guide, I'll go over the mods one by one, tell some of the most important recipes and say what you should do. First of all, here's a list of the mods I WON'T explain, just because a lot of people already know them or they don't add actual content to the game: -MCP -FML -MCF -CodeChicken Core -NEI -Rei's minimap -Inventory tweaks -Mystcraft -Railcraft Okay, let's start with the guide! First I'll go over the main mod, basic components. This is the mod that adds all the basic tools to get you started with other Voltz mods. Basic components adds some worldgen in the form of copper and tin. In a regular crafting table you can put two copper on the left and right of a tin ingot in order to make bronze dust, put this in a furnace to get a bronze ingot. The mod also adds steel ingots, you make this similiar to bronze, but instead of copper you use charcoal, and instead of tin you use iron, so like "charcoal - iron - charcoal" in a 3x3 crafting grid. Also, you're able to make steel plates by putting the steel in a 2x2 crafting grid. These are all the materials added by the mod. Using these, you'll be able to get started with UE. You need copper wires now, these are for moving around your electricity. I'll get more into making and using electricity later on. You make copper wires like this: the brown ingot is copper. EDIT: you should use leather instead of wool here. This is due to the electric expansion mod. Now, you still need to learn how to make batteries, circuits and motors. These three are used in machines a lot, together with the ingots added by the mod. Here are the recipes for these three (actually five, because there are three 'levels' of circuits) items: batteries: the white (kind of blue) ingot is tin The three circuits: The gray plate is a steel plate The motor: The ingots are steel ingots Okay, so you know how to make the basic components now? Let's start making the machines then! First, your first generator: the coal generator! The orange ingot isn't actually brick, it's bronze. Using this generator you'll be able to power the electric furnace that this mod adds, but also all the things that the other mods add. All Voltz mods use the same type of electricity, so you don't need to worry about having to make different types of generators for different mods. This coal generator will get you started with your Voltz adventure! Now, let's make a battery box to store our energy, shall we? Also, I forgot to mention, a red hole in your machine means input, and a black one means output. So if you want to move the electricity out of your coal generator into the battery box, you should attach a cable to the black output hole of your coal generator and into the red input hole of your battery box. You should make a wrench now, this allows you to manipulate certain blocks/machines. Normally the recipe is shown as four steel on the manual, but it's actually three steel and a diamond, like this: XSX XDS SXX Where D = diamond and S = steel Let's now make something to use our electricity with: An electric furnace That plate is a bronze plate This fella works faster than a normal furnace and it does that on electricity! Okay, that's the basic components mod. From this moment on I won't go into recipes that much anymore, so you should use NEI, I'll only show the recipes you can't find in NEI. Basic pipes: This surely isn't the biggest of mods, but it's very handy! Here's a link to the manual made by the mod author: http://calclavia.com/universalelectricity/?m=3&p=crafting This mod adds some pipes to move around things, adds some cross-mod compatibility. It adds steam pipes, so you can use it together with railcraft. It adds pumps too. For the recipes you should either use NEI or check the manual using the link I just gave. Assembly line: This mod adds some conveyor belts to move around items, manipulators (these are like transposers from redpower 2) to pull items out of a chest or to put items in a chest. A rejector to sort around items on the conveyor belts. And crates, these are like the factorization barrels. You can store 32 stacks of the same item in one crate, but what's awesome about these is that you can take the barrel using a wrench and carry it around, with all the items still in it, that is! This mod is still a WIP mod. There's still a lot to be added to the mod. Okay, let's talk about electric expansion now, this mod adds an advanced battery box with upgrades, more types of wire, some measuring tools, a transformer and lead. You get lead ingots from wither skeletons. When killed, they drop from 1 to 4 ingots. The wires added, from weakest to strongest are: Copper wire Tin wire Silver wire HV wire Superconductor wire The difference between these wires is that the strongest, the superconductor loss has the least electricity loss over distance and the copper wire the most. The advanced battery box on it's own isn't THAT useful, but once you get to the upgrades it starts to get interesting. You can add storage upgrades to the advanced battery box making it much more useful than the normal battery box. This mod also adds some batteries for portable electricity storage. This mod also adds a handy machine called the wire mill, this machine takes in electricity and makes wires for you. Just drop some ingots in of the type of wire you'd like to make, and this machine makes wire for you. Of course this has a use: it's more efficient than making your cables the normal way. So basically, this mod adds all kinds of things to store, manage and move around your electricity, and a few machines to help you. *more mods being added*

Maybe I'll make one. Seems fun :p

Sorry for doubleposting, needed you to get this notification, can you tell me what the console says when you get dced? That'd help a lot.
-
If the administrator thing doesn't work.. It's probably your internet connection, mine sometimes couldn't handle the tekkit server either. I got fiber optic now and it works like a charm. EDIT: I'll be gone now, back tomorrow
-
Try using two transformers
-
The transformer has two sides, one with a red input side, and one with a black output side. The higher 256v should go into the red side and come out of the black output side as lower voltage
-
Can you tell me how much RAM you have, how much you allocated to technic and if you use a texture pack, which one?
-
Hmm, not sure, it might just be the internet connection... Have you changed any server properties or something like that? EDIT: how does the dc happen? Does everyone get disconnected immediately, does everyone suddenly stop moving or anything like that? EDIT 2: try running the server launch as an administrator
-
The server file refers to the one you download from minecraft.net, if you need any help, you should check my thread on making a server.

Helpers for bug testing a new whitelisted server!
M-C replied to OPTIVNERVE's topic in Voltz Discussion
I've found a bug on my server already, the lightning rod from the mekaniks mod crashes the server when used -
What's your virus scanner? And have you tried redownloading?
-
Well that's your problem, changed it in the tutorial to say contents, so hopefully other people won't get the same problem . EDIT: no problem mate! Always happy to help EDIT 2: added common problems/fixes :D
-
The contents, you shouldn't put the folder itself in it
-
Yep, that's what you should do, and don't delete the META-INF, even though you want it ;)
-
Hmm.. This is strange, didn't happen to me... Try deleting all mods, configs and coremods, running the server, closing the server and putting everything back in. If this doesn't help, I don't know. I'll look into it more tomorrow. EDIT: Did you put the contents of the PUT THIS IN THE SERVER.JAR in the right place? Try redownloading that aswell. I think it's because something has been put into the wrong place. I might add some pictures too, just to help everyone do the steps correctly.

You're getting an Id conflict, you should change the id of the rubber sapling in the ic2 config from 241 to something else. (Or the enderchest id in the enderstorage config)
-
Np! Happy to help EDIT: I've made a piece about portforwarding too. But every router is different, so looking up a video on portforwarding on your router is still preferred.

How do set up a server for volts from scratch?
M-C replied to taylor beck's topic in Voltz Discussion
Check the thread I made, maybe it'll help -
Needing Step by step help please for MULTICRAFT SERVER
M-C replied to Justwantedtosayonething's topic in Voltz Discussion
I made a thread about it... Maybe it helps.? -
So, I've seen quite some posts with people asking how to make a server now, so I'll try to explain how to make one: Step 1: Download the Voltz server file from technicpack.net Step 2: Download the Minecraft server.jar from minecraft.net and extract the contents Into the folder you want to use for your server using winrar Step 3: run the Minecraft_server file that you got from the jar (optional) Step 4: make a batch file so you can see errors or allocate a different amount of RAM to the server, copy this text into notepad (change the numbers to the amount of RAM you'd like to allocate): java -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui. Now Save it, remember to do save as, and not just the normal save. You need to save this as a .bat file, on the bottom you should choose "all files" instead of "text files" and name it something like "run.bat" or "voltz server.bat". The .bat part should always be in there. Step 5: open the jar you ran in step 3 using winrar, right click, select "open with" and choose Winrar. One of the maps in the Voltz server file should be called: Voltz.jar. Put all the contents into the server.jar you just opened with Winrar. Step 6: Run the Minecraft_server.jar again Step 7: You see that some new maps were added to your server folder. The mods, coremods and config maps. Just drag and drop the mods, coremods and configs from the Voltz folder into the Server folder. Step 8: Try running the server once again, just to check if it works. (optional) Step 9: Set the server properties to the way you like it, for example turn mob spawns off, or make your server whitelisted or anything like that. Do this by opening the PROPERTIES file with notepad. You can for example set mob spawns from true to false in here, and all kinds of other things Step 10: You have to portforward, by some (many) this is considered the hardest part of making a server. You should look up a video on portforwarding for your type of router, since for every router you have to portforward in a different way. I'll try to explain. But remember, it might be different on your router. First, press the start button and go to cmd, type 'ipconfig' in cmd and press enter. You want to look for the numbers after 'standard gateway'. Found them? Well, just type the numbers in your web browser. You should now get to your router's website. There should be something like toolbox, or gaming&application sharing or anything close to that. You want to create a new application here. Call it anything you want, just 'Minecraft' is okay. Now there should be something like, UDC, TCP and both. You want to select 'both' because we want both UDC and TCP. The port you want to open is 25565, if it asks for a second port just type 25565 in there aswell. Now the port should be opened. You might have to assign the port to be opened though. There should be something like 'assign a new application' or something close to that. Press that, and select the 'Minecraft' port we just made. The port is now open and ready to connect your friends to your system. Do you want to know your ip? Just go to the website ipchicken, it'll display your ip. People will join your server through this ip, so give that one to your friends. Your server should be working now. Did I forget anything? Tell me! And enjoy playing with your friends! (Still things being added) Common fixes to problems: -Redownload all the coremods, mods, configs etc. -Remember to put the CONTENTS of the 'Voltz.jar' into your minecraft_server.jar -If people can't join your server you probably haven't portforwarded right, make sure you've followed the step of portforwarding correctly. -If someone (you) is trying to join the server and it says that you're missing a lot of the mods, you've got a wrong pack version or just a wrong pack, make sure you have the RIGHT version and make sure it's VOLTZ. -My .bat file won't open the server! : make sure you've got the .bat file in the same folder as the launch server, and also make sure you've copied the text correctly. -There's no mods or coremods or configs folder, so I can't put the mods and configs in! : remember to launch the server again after putting the contents of the 'Voltz.jar' into the minecraft_server.jar, launching it again will generate these folders. If you have a question or it's still not working, just go ahead and ask! I'll try to help.

No problem :)
