If gaming is your goal you'd want a new processor too. Newer Intel i5. You'd probably end up just getting a new one. RAM might transfer though. RAM is cheap now though so you could get 8 gigs of something probably faster.

As people have said, don't allocate that much RAM. Minecraft will bloat and back up with garbage data until it crawls to a painful halt. MC is not known for being optimized or even well coded honestly. 1 gig is enough. Two if you don't believe me and wan't to haggle. 32 bit java also makes it run like crap.

The person maintaining it for the yogscast has stepped down and there is no longer support for it. The last version is still available.

I staircase mine cautiously until I burst into a cave and shit the bed. I always intend to spiral staircase mine with a shaft down the middle to send daylight down to the bottom but I always just regular staircase because it's early game and I don't want to put in the effort.
