Dude seriously. Nobody can help you if you don't submit a bug report with the appropriate information. Any "help" you recieve at this point is going to be nearly-blind conjecture based on attempts at decuiphering what you've said is happening.

This is where you went wrong. Noone here gives two shits about pirates because every one of them, like you, wanders onto the forums and immediately whines about the launcher until they get probated. Pretty much this. Except without the part about trying not to piss off the mods. One day some admin or another is going to ban me, and i'll have noone to blame but myself I DO try to stay out of threads where someone is having a very technical problem though.

I'm probably nailing myself to a tree here, but i hated FF7. Not a single part of it appealed to me. Everything it did even remotely well, was done better in FF6,8, or 9.

Right click> run with> [appropriate version of java]

Try making sure you're using Java 7, and DONT have Java 6 installed.

You can turn it off pretty easily, but when the program has any major updates it'll come back. Small price to pay for an otherwise free and effective AV.

I use avast, and i quite like it. It doesnt impact my speed at all, and i've never been stopped from downloading anything innocent. One irritating part of it though, is that when it updates its virus definitions, it feels the need to tell you so, but the voice recording is REALLY loud.

well, then you're going to have to give more information than "it doesn't work" Did you try the other really common solution of disabling your firewall/uninstalling norton or avg?

No. Besides, you should ditch AVG anyways, it's crap. Get Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials. Both Free, Both functional. Neither fucks with shit for no reason.

Honestly, a simple cursory glance at the million other "update failed" threads would have your problem solved.

Clearly you haven't. The launcher isn't some bizarre eldritch machine, utilizing a runtime founded on the souls of the damned, it's java. It works fine for the vast majority of the people who use it. If it isn't working, then there's something conventional that you AREN'T doing. Telling us that you've "tried everything" is bullshit, and always false. The situation is simple: You have overlooked something, done something wrong, or have something interfering with the launcher. I'm surprised noone else has told you to use the bug report format yet, but do it. There's a reason we ask for information along with your problem. P.S. This isn't just directed at you. There have been an influx of people recently who think they are computer guru's and therefore immune to stupid mistakes, demanding help.
