  1. The best part of the post from an account that joined today. Oh and the avatar. Nice touch.
  2. I think we all know why I play Minecraft. It is for the babes of course. However, I don't go yelling at people over the internet about it.
  3. lol You need to take a look at yourself. It is just a glorified game of legos you are getting so worked up about.
  4. I am more curious as to why this restriction is required. It seems a bit petty to be honest. You either give your blessing or you don't. Who cares about the other drama inspired flaming hoops? You won't be hurting Technic by rescinding your blessing. The people who like the mod will still play it. And lastly, you gain nothing. Well,, more drama I guess. That's something.
  5. Yeah, the page is very recent(according to the title), and completely different that the one KoL linked to on the Mods forum which is the one most of us are familiar with. I'd say it is safe to say that most of us avoid the MCF, and would most often only visit Mods. Chances are none of us have seen that post which is far more reasonable and intelligent. That said, It would be nice if MC modding was more like other modding communities where the words Copyright and License are rarely heard or are at least far less hysterical about it. I can assure you that no one here wants to ripoff any of the authors, and in other communities those issues are self policing with far less noise. But here we are. At least make it sane, fair, and appropriate for the venue.
  6. To some of us that have been around a bit longer than most, this all seems far too familiar and it seems like the goalposts keep moving. First it was ad.fly and Technic was stealing their income. I think that argument has run its course, and most people can see that in the long run Technic actually improved their income. Next came the issue of mod technical support. People hated Technic because it was causing more headaches for the authors from people using the pack and asking questions in the author's MCF thread. It is only natural that when more people use a product, that there will be more question concerning that product. But, because of the nature of Technic's ease of use, the occasional bug, and a lack of technical prowess from a lot of new users there were a lot of issues where people were bugging the authors and not knowing the protocols for reporting problems. The Technic forums were born to address this issue. It must be a great stress relief to say "You need to take that to the Technic Forums". I am not going to go far into all of the unsubstantiated rumors that have been constantly waved around. I have seen it stated that Technic was hijacking the author's paypal links, Technic was logging user's MC name and password, Technic was accepting donations directly, and many many more. I have spent some time on Esper, and browsing around various forums. I have seen these silly rumors echoed by those that frankly should know better. Is it any wonder that anyone would be hesitant to be more public? Some of us have seen mod authors speaking directly with the core members of Technic in IRC. We've seen authors on closed Tekkit servers. We've seen screenshots of the odd written correspondences. It isn't all Technic Must Die. To pretend otherwise is frankly deceitful. Is it any wonder that another bout of drama is met with "Oh god, more of this"? I suspect that another effort will be made. Though I don't know if it will be in the format you are asking for. Maybe partially, at a guess. I would expect it to be guarded. There have also been rumors on this side, and correspondences that have gone ignored. When you are told that this person hates Technic, not given a reason, and are then ignored... Unrelated, but as an example. There are many fans of FTB on this side. Initially, there was a flood of requests to have the pack added to the launcher. The general consensus was that Slowpoke hated Technic, and there was no use in asking. The Forestry Incident is another. Technic originally had Minefactory Reloaded. Literally, everyday someone would show up in IRC asking why Forestry wasn't included in the pack. It was easily the most requested mod by far, and was turned down because at the time it was redundant. MFR did the same things, and Powercrystals was a bro and an integral part of Technic. Technic at the time was pretty much just a download page, and a small group of threads over on Yogscast.com. Someone over there made a similar and separate pack and called it Technic+ or something and it contained Forestry. It took off, and those of us in IRC were flooded with support issues for not only Technic but another mod pack they were calling Technic that had other mods including Forestry. It was likely at this time that Sir Sengir found out. I can recall people in IRC saying that Sengir would virtually roll his eyes at the mention of Technic in his MCF thread, and "not talk about it". Powercrystals quit modding, and MFR faded into the background. People were already using Forestry with "Technic", and we were all told that Sengir was unresponsive. To make a long story short Forestry became a favorite, and bees went nuclear. I can't act like I know all of the inner workings or behind the scenes of Technic. I don't. I do know what I have seen, and I know effort has been made on a number of occasions. I do know that there are many authors that are fine with Technic. I know Technic, in spite of the drama has been a positive force, in the MC community, and I know those that are personally responsible for Technic are reasonable, intelligent, and talented though they'd probably call me some sort of nasty name (butt, weenie, etc) for saying so. I do know that they are particular about what mods go into the pack, and that inclusion is far from nefarious. Ugh, I have spent way too much time on this. Time I should be spending exploring new ways these mods can interact. I also am having trouble not rambling. Heh. I'll close this saying it was good to see CJ and CPW make some effort instead of what I have seen so far. People stewing in their own juices and stoked by the rabble rousers. It would be nice to see less prejudice and more communication. (edit: Technic will likely never disappear entirely. It may fade back to its small roots, but only because something better has come along. I feel pretty confident in saying that everyone involved would welcome that.)
  7. Now now. Don't get carried away. There is a lot of hatred out there, warranted or not (my opinion: not). It has inertia, and is not likely to die out so easily. If egos are not checked with hats at the door, nothing will change. I'm not certain the MC modding community can handle the irreverent and self deprecating sense of humor that the core and the extended "family" surrounding Technic are used to. It is often interpreted as a lack of respect. The differences are most notable in the most prominent Youtube channels. One tends to be dry, technical, and overachieving. The other is goofy, fumbling, and artistic. If these discussions take place, and each side can take their differences into account (serious vs nothing sacred)...idk. We'll see. It still won't stop those on the periphery from lighting themselves on fire and running into traffic at the mention of the silly block game drama.
  8. I think this is ok, but I do think considering the climate it should be initially closed or at the very least readonly/private for all but those that are personally involved. This thread is testament to that I think. Once the discussion/posting is done, then post the results or open it for public reading. Keep the noise down for the important part of the discourse, and a lot more can come of it. There is a great deal of misinformation, vitriol, and a huge clash of cultures going on. It is an unneeded and unproductive schism that while it may never be brought together fully there could at least be some sort of coexistence without the constant jabs. Technic wold not exist without the mod authors, and I would like to think that the mod authors can see the benefits of Technic (exposure, tech support, and a centralized entry to modding).
  9. Excellent, but there is currently one problem I have noticed. The new Railcraft reinforced rails do not have a texture.
  10. Hmm yeah. The Forestry wiki is misleading. Use the Harvester and Plantation.
  11. The Forestry Logger and Arboretum should handle IC2 rubber trees the same as normal trees.
  12. Curse is horrible and a major contributor to the drama. Copyright is automatic, and there is no need to make a declaration. Curse claiming that these notices that they suggest affords the authors any sort of extra protection is plain wrong. What Curse and the majority of the community are confused about is the difference between copyright and licensing. Licensing is a whole other kettle of fish dealing with contract law, and not one single entity in the MC community has come even close to getting it right. Not even Mojang. Until there is some glimmer of sanity the best option is to donate to your favorite mod authors, and ignore all of the blustering.
  13. Copyright violations are NOT theft. You should read this very carefully: http://www.minecraft.net/terms If you are worried about the mod authors, go donate $1. That dollar will cover thousands of ad.fly downloads.
  14. Some things you can try: In the launcher main window under options there is an option to update to the latest LWJGL files. Since Agelian has fixed this afaik it is safe to use, and will often improve performance a great deal. That option appears to be broken still. If you are up to it you can try to update them yourself. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Tutorials/Update_LWJGL If the same options window try adjust the memory available depending on how much you PC has. I have 4gig and use the 2gig setting. I'm not certain, but I think the launcher will try to use the latest version of Java installed. If you don't have it already I suggest downloading and installing Java 7. If you are running a 64bit OS be sure to grab the 64bit version of Java. Minecraft in general seems to prefer both Java 7 and 64bit Java. The three mods that seem to effect performance the most in Technic 6 are Millenaire, Matmos, and Mo'Creatures. You can try disabling these. Millenaire and Mo'Creatures you can disable from the modloader.cfg file I think, and you can turn off Matmos by hitting F7 in game.
  15. Yup, don't do this. Spout/Technic both have issues here. You can uncheck the box, restart and everything will be fine. Also, you can manually install the binaries yourself. Just don't let the launcher do it.
  16. Are you sure it stops working? I have noticed the GUI and the textures slow to update, while the wireless redstone still works properly. The only bug I know of personally with wireless redstone in Tekkit is having a transmitter in one world and the receiver in another world will break.
  17. I don't have any definite answer to be honest. Is it a client crash? Maybe try fiddling with the memory options for the client or server, and try Java 7 if you aren't already. I really don't know.
  18. To install/run the server: Download http://sa-technic.googlecode.com/files/Tekkit_Server_1.1.4.7z Unzip it somewhere out of the way. execute launch.bat To install/run the client: Backup your .minecraft folder Delete your .minecraft folder Run Minecraft and let it update Exit Minecraft Download http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/800346-tool-mcnostalgia-202/ Run MCNostalgia and change your version to 1.0.0 Run Minecraft (Don't update) and make sure it is running ok and is at 1.0.0 Backup your .minecraft folder (So you don't have to repeat the previous step if something goes wrong, and you have a spare 1.0.0) Download http://sa-technic.googlecode.com/files/Tekkit_Client_1.1.4.7z Unzip that somewhere Execute Technic_Installer.jar Just hit Next to install to .minecraft Choose your optional mods, and it install Run Minecraft (don't update) connect to server Profit A suggestion: Try using http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/540449-minecraft-profile-manager/ A wonderful program that will allow you handle several different kinds of client/SSP installs with minimal trouble. Each install has it's own directory, but can be run from a single simple interface. Very handy, and makes some of the above steps easier to handle or obsolete.
  19. If you are trying to run a Tekkit server the download from this site has all of the basics. Tekkit is based off of Bukkit which has only recently been ported to MC1.1 with just a handful of mods supported. Hopefully soon that will change.
